Camping out

Found myself in the Athlete's Village the other day and experienced a strange sensation - it felt like summer camp. I never was a summer camper, but I've seen enough movies to know that scene.

A guy pedaled through an indoor lobby on a bike; guys and gals picked up mail from the folks; others penned letters (text messages, actually) to friends and family back in the city. Kept waiting to see the head counselor blow a whistle to signal the start of a two-mile hike.

The sight of rifle-carrying SWAT teams sort of spoiled the move,  but not completely.

Some have dubbed these the No-Fun Olympics, but I looked out a bus window the other day and saw volunteers playing an imaginary game of badminton beneath an overpass. All they lacked was a net. Nice to see a spontaneous outburst of goofiness.
