Here We Go

I'm sitting in the media room, working on a story, when this raw, ear-piercing shout rings out. Seems somone on the Chinese women's soccer team had scored the clincher in a first-round game, perhaps an early sign of the succes China will enjoy on its home turf. One thing's certain: Yahoo Bronco fans and Yahoo Chinese fans sound weirdly similar.

The main TV anchor people are very understated, very elegant. Can't help but wonder what they'd think if Dick Vitale suddenly popped up on the set, sceaming and flinging his arms about. The little Chinese children might be frightened.

The general store in the media village is shutting down in mid-afternoon. No one wants to be working during Opening Ceremonies. I asked a young clerk if she had a ticket for the big shindig. Her look, loosely translated, said: Do we have a problem?

Seems in a country of 1.3 billion, tickets are hard to come by.
