Team USA Uses Sharpies

Team USA won't have representation in either the men's or women's 4 x
100m finals after both teams botched the handoff on the last leg of
tonight's qualifying races. That's what you'll be reading about
tomorrow.
But here's what I want to know: the rest of the runners wore bibs with bold, printed letters. So why were the Americans wearing what appears to be a handwritten "USA" on their chests?
