Getting clearance -- UPDATE
It's not uncommon to see signs on the highway announcing the clearance of an immediately upcoming overpass. What does a truck driver whose rig exceeds that height do at the last second? -- David
Trucking companies plan the drivers' routes in advance and take clearances into consideration, said Bonnie Babcock, director of Sage Truck Driving School in Henderson. "If he follows the route given to him by the company, he should be fine," she said.
If the clearance information is faulty or if a driver deviates from the route -- and stops in time -- he should call 911 and ask that a law enforcement officer help him back up and get turned around in traffic.
If the driver can't stop in time, "he's definitely calling 911," Babcock said.
