Liles to return; Brodeur, too

Avalanche defenseman John-Michael Liles is expected to play Thursday in New Jersey after missing four games with a wrist injury.

Unfortunately for the Avalanche, the team will face Devils goalie Martin Brodeur, who will play for the first time since tearing a tendon in his biceps Nov. 1.

Maybe it wouldn't make any difference which goalie the Devils play. The Avalanche is on the skids, and Scott Clemmensen was extremely solid for New Jersey when Brodeur was sidelined.

Come to think of it, Clemmensen might not look too shabby in an Avalanche uniform. With Brodeur back, Clemmensen has been sent to the minors. He told New Jersey reporters that he discussed the possibility of a trade with Devils GM Lou Lamoriello.

Yes, the Devils are a much better team than the Avalanche, but Clemmensen would still be an upgrade over Peter Budaj and Andrew Raycroft.

By the way, Raycroft gets the start Thursday.
