Waiting on the commissioner
The Broncos aren't saying much publicly about what may happen with wide receiver Brandon Marshall and Marshall himself said he does not want to speak publicly about what he expects from the league, but privately many in the organization expect a suspension to be forthcoming for Marshall, possibly as soon as this week.
There are those who believe it may even be Monday when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell hands down his decision.
But these things are unpredictable and often move at the speed of Goodell's crowded docket as the league's top decision-maker.
However, compare Marshall's three arrests in the past year with other players' off-the-field troubles to go with the previous suspensions that followed around the league and it would appear four games will be the most likely penalty for the third-year player.
Two games is the minimum penalty initiallty, under the league's conduct policy -- some players have had a two-game suspension reduced to one -- but a four-game penalty to open the season would mean that Marshall would miss three division games.
The Broncos face Oakland, San Diego and Kansas City in the first month of the season if Marshall elects to simply accept the penalty without an appeals process and begin serving the suspension as quickly as possible.
Any penalty announced in the coming days and weeks would not affect Marshall in the preseason, he would continue to practice with the team and play in the four preseason games.
