Jeff_Legwold I think a lot of players are frustrated, but so are the coaches. A head coach can only do so much as far as getting ready to play, avoiding turnovers and not missing tackles. In the end the players have to make it happen. I don't think Mike has lost control, but there is definitely a lot of frustration around the building.

danoreilly true - but how effective was the defense WITH the 4 starters who are not out? I think the pieces are there (offensive line, linebackers, TE's, WR's) but we just can't seem to get everything together.
dlprobert Shanny is trying to make the eam something it isn't....why doesn't he get rid of the defensive coordinator and find a local high school coach to fill the spot....we'd be better

Jeff_Legwold Exactly, the defense was struggling before anybody got hurt, but they played better yesterday when they didn't use the 3-4, a defense they don't really have the personnel to play. They played a more basic, fundmental approach and it worked a ltitle better. But D.J.'s injury is going to make things more difficult now.

broncofan_h Jeff- I was at the game yesterday and noticed what seemed to be a pretty cold relationship between Cutler and Marshall. Marshall kept looking at the sideline as if to say "he isn't even looking my way). Is something going on between them that the media has seen?
Jeff_Legwold Pittman's injury could be serious. A player getting stingers after every tackle is usually a sign of something that needs plenty of recovery time, at least in my previous years around the league.
SuperNico I'm worried about DJ Williams, hopefully the MRI will return negative. Anyone hear anything yet?

SuperSeason the marshall thing made no sense
Jeff_Legwold Cutler has to follow the defensive reads and if the defense is aligned to take Marshall away, that is going to take Cutler away from Marshall. And folks were saying he was looking to Marshall too much before, so there is a balance there somewhere. But people are going to press Marshall more at the line of scrimmage if he doesn't make himself some more room. The Dolphins said they wanted to get right up on him and it worked.

SuperNico The one positive I saw in Jay Cutler's game was his check downs. Getting the ball to Peyton Hillis as many times as he did shows me he's not relying to much on Marshall, Royal and Stokley.

Jeff_Legwold The old adage is the guy with the ball has the last word. And sometimes quarterbacks force the ball, sometimes young quarterback with strong arms really force the ball. It's been that way for decades. It's part of growing in a job where you make a lot of money, a lot of people pay to see you play and you make your mistakes in front of everybody.

Jeff_Legwold He had to get away from the run. Pittman couldn't play and may have hurt his neck worse staying in the game. Torain has only practiced two weeks. Hall missed time last week becauseof his ankle and Young wasn't in uniform. Their run game was done when Pittman went to the sideline.

Jeff_Legwold They were down to Stewart or Clady with the pick, took Clady and that's worked out pretty well. Harder to find a left tackle than a running back.

TheHammer Shanahan's history of low and no round RB picks is not working. Reason: the backs are soft. Pittman is the lone hard charger and he's on the wrong side of 30. As for Torain, he's still unproven. Guys like Mike Anderson and Ruben Droughns succeeded because they ran hard, north-south and downhill.

Jeff_Legwold The roll out only works with play action and when pittman couldn't go, hall hurting and torain not ready to play out of passing formations because of blitz pick-up duties, they lost the personnel they needed to do it, you'll see it more though.

danoreilly yes I am. Get more consistent pressure with the DL and have safties that can hit, support the run and defnd the pass, this defense would be a WHOLE lot better.

Jeff_Legwold I do think he will, but pass protection is always the last thing that clicks for a rookie running back so he may not play on third downs or other passing situations.

Jeff_Legwold missed some time with injuries in college, so still a little raw. they like him as a prospect, but not quite ready right now to make decisions in coverage or at the line of scrimmage. depending on how long mccree is out they may have to give him a little longer look.

Jeff_Legwold Even Tony Sparano said he couldn't be "emphatic'' about it and it saved his team a touchdown. have seen plenty worse not get flagged, but it's pro football you have to rebound when things happen to you. not easy, but a requirement.

Jeff_Legwold they'd like royal out wide because he's so good at making room for himself in the route. his breaks are really sharp. he could play the slot -- he was the strongest receiver at the combine -- but he really plays well outside right now.
