Number One versus Number Two to the Third Degree

Games between the top two ranked teams in a classification become more commonplace in the state semi-finals and championship rounds.  But they have become extremely rare during the regular season.  That's not the case this week as three games involving number one against number two are on the schedule.  One of them is set for Friday while fans in 3A and eight man must patiently wait for Saturday before cheering on their teams.

Playoff Race Starting to Take Shape

Regular season play winds down this week in the eight man division as teams finalize positions for cross divisional play in week nine.  In the six man division, two weeks remain but the conference schedule wraps up this week so playoff positions will be determined.  Class 1A has two weeks remaining but the playoff picture is starting to clear up.

Highway 34 is the road to Football Success

Week Five of the Football Season Brings Highly Anticipated Matchups

On paper, week five of the football season shapes up to be a very good one especially in the smaller classifications.  According to our most recent Colorado Preps football polls (released September 22nd), there are nine matchups involving ranked teams against one another.  All nine will play a major role in deciding league championships and post-season seeding.

Rivalries Get Renewed This Week in Football and Softball

Many folks along the Metro area don't get a chance to see small school football but Friday marks one of the games well worth the time to head to the Eastern Plains.  Limon plays host to Akron in a battle of the two most storied Class 1A programs.

Struggling Programs Starting to See Success

Defending State Champs Go 4-3 in Week One

Only four of the seven defending state champions were winners in week one of the football season.  Two of the unsuccessful teams were ironically knocked off by a team they beat in the 2007 playoffs.  That includes reigning 4A champion Pueblo West.  They became the first area team since 1999 to beat Pueblo South when they knocked off the Colts in the second round last season.  South exacted some revenge on Friday when they took care of the Cyclones 21-14.

Week One Full of Top Notch Battles

In the past, week one of the football season served as a feeding ground for top flight programs to post lopsided victories.  But that's no longer the case as those same schools now use the week as a gauge to see where they stand.  The schedule is full of attractive matchups in all classes with several top teams squaring off.

Colorado Preps Network partners with Rocky Mountain News

Here at the Colorado Preps Network, we're excited to be working more closely with the Rocky Mountain News.  As we started our radio network and website on high school sports five years ago, we were hoping that we would someday be at this point.  During that span, we have not tried to copy Rocky Preps but rather build on what they've accomplished.
