CSU ends MWC road losing streak
CSU coach Tim Miles talked with his two senior players, guards Marcus Walker and Willis Gardner, before Saturday's Mountain West Conference game against Air Force at Clune Arena.
CSU then went out and snapped a 19-game MWC road losing streak with a 71-66 victory over the Falcons that marked the Rams' first conference road victory since Jan. 7, 2007 when Colorado State won at TCU.
Walker had 20 points and Gardner contriubed eight points, six rebounds and six assists as CSU won for the first time at Air Force since the 2002 season.
"I really liked this win for our two seniors," Miles said. "We didn;t want this (MWC road losing streak) hanging over them or this program and I talked to them about it. Those two were really good for us."
CSU (9-18) improved to 4-9 in MWC action while the Falcons lost their 14th consecutive game to fall to 9-17 and 0-13 in conference play.
The Rams have three games remaining in the regular season and play rival Wyoming Wednesday night at Moby Arena. CSU faces New Mexico at home next Saturday before going to San Diego State on March 4.
"We really wanted to end this streak and then go into our next game at home against our rivals and see what happens," Walker said. "I don't care if I score another point, I just want to win."
