A good start

Great drafts are made on the second day, but the Kansas City Chiefs have constructed a good one so far.

With their three first-day picks the Chiefs, who still have nine picks to make Sunday and will make 12 overall, grabbed three potential starters at need positions Saturday.

They were the most fortunate team of the first day as they watched all of the teams in front of their No. 5 spot draft for need instead of the best player on the board. And the result was Glenn Dorsey fell to them for their first pick.

They then grabbed Branden Albert at No. 15 with the expected intention of making him a tackle. There is some risk there since Albert only started at guard at Virginia -- a three-year starter at left guard -- but almost every team had him worthy of that pick because of his athleticism and size.

And in the second round they got perhaps the most physical cornerback in the draft in Brandon Flowers of Virginia Tech. Flowers is quick enough to cover downfield and was the best in the group in run support.

A quality tackler in the open field who isn't afraid to stick his nose into the play.

So the Chiefs have some momentum so the question will be can they maintain it through Sunday.

I actually thought I had logged into a Broncos section, at least that's what the link on the frontpage told me.

Again Jeff and Lee show that they are NOT local sport support writers.
