Clady the pick

The Broncos went for need with their first pick, selecting Boise State tackle Ryan Clady to open their draft.

Clady was the second-rated tackle on most teams' boards leading up to Saturday's first round. A big-framed player at 6-6 1/8, 309 pounds who started three seasons in a spread offense.

He started a year on the right side, two years at left tackle and projects as a left tackle in the Broncos offense. The expectation will be that he compete for the starting job just as soon as they get him signed.

The only question is whether, having played in a spread offense, he can make the adjustment to finishing blocks in the Broncos run game. His strength is his work in pass protection and he really knows how to dispose of a rusher once he locks on.

He came into the Boise St. program as a defensive lineman so he plays with an edge as well.

I would have preferred Williams here, the 14 score on the wonderlic worries me if they want him to start next seasons.
