Oil addiction
Monday, February 5 at 3:38 PM

The president is wrong - dead wrong! Americas deadly addiction is to oil - ALL OIL - not just foreign oil. All life on this planet is adversely affected by the production and use of petroleum products. Internal combustion engines were designed, of course, to run on petroleum-based gasoline, but lungs were not.
In his most recent State of the Union address, Mr. Bush reiterated his worn-out, myopic shibboleth that unproven, impractical, or decades-off technologies will provide a fix for the problem.
As usual, in order to placate the automotive and petroleum industries, the most effective and immediate remedy - conservation - was barely referred to, and the most effective mode of conservation - meaningful vehicle mileage standards - which have been successfully applied decades ago by environmentally-friendly administrations, were not even mentioned.
Hopefully, the American public is more open to verifiable facts and logic - and less to corporate propaganda - than is their president.

I've long maintained that the position put forth in the above letter is the most sensible position in that conservation mode not only reduces our dependence on fossil fuels regardless the source but has the added benefit of reducing polluting emissions. Just what is it that conservatives wish to conserve?

Yo, Patrick and R,
you two need to get together and formulate your vision and take it to market and become billionairs over night. The two of you could come up with the most enviornmentally friendly method of powering our world and get rid of all systems that use any petroleum based product.
So will you have this ready by september or october?
I guess I am really confused as to why there was any conservation questions left after 8 years of Algore and Clinton in office. You do remember Algore and how he is telling everyone about his theroy that the world will be gone in ten years, dont you? I would have assumed those two would have cured the dependence on fossil fuels long ago. What were they wishing to conserve?

how do you "sell" conservation, Bob? Your overly simplistic view of the world is not realistic.

I don't remember Al Gore telling anyone the world will end in 10 years. Can you show me an article or something?
