Sally Cumine of Denver writes:
The newspapers are all about people — their stories, events, disasters, wars etc. Once in a while there is something about animals in the paper. It may be just a blurb or a big story such as the pet-food recall.
But, there is <i>alwaysi> someone who writes in — or a columnist like Jason Salzman (On the Media, April 14) — who complains, “But, what about people? Why aren’t we talking about people’s plights?” Geez! Can’t we do both?

The animal kingdom can get as much ink as they want. They just need to get their own paper.

Well of course, you could teach Fido, or Fluffy, how to boot up a computer, type, proofread, and email a letter, or column. Bet they would be just about as good as some we see here.

There's plenty of column space devoted to animals in the paper--quite often the Spotlight section has some really tasty recipes in it!

It's work; but it's fun too. I try for Brett Harte style too; but . . . . What happened to the days when the real American classics were part of the basic education?
