Talk-show host’s rant
“Gunny” Bob Newman’s anti-Muslim rant is merely the latest attempt to use fear and bigotry to justify the dehumanization of people of color (“Host’s tirade affects KOA,” Business, May 18).
I applaud business owners such as Peggy Beck for taking a stand against Newman’s hateful language.
When will we wake up and realize that imprisoning, torturing and discriminating against entire communities, such as Muslims, does nothing to strengthen or protect our country?

What would you suggest Crystal? no checks at all concerning a group of people who have publicly called for the deaths and destruction of ALL Isrealis and Americans? What would you do when at least one fourth of all polled would gladly commit suicide bombing to accomplish thiss end? The silence from this community living in a country that they are free to practice their religion, ( which is questionable) is deafening.They are also a group that does not assimalate well into the community. They mostly stick to their own groups.
Now they are starting to demand rights like foot baths and prayer places in public universities.Where else are they going to start making their demands. They are slowly rearing their heads to demand rights that allow them to practice their religion in public places.Where is this leading and when will it end?
They hate us but use this country to make money and have freedoms their religion won't allow in their home countries.
Do we have another ethnic group starting to demand rights that they are not entitled to?
Time will tell.

Excellent question! I rarely agree with you, but your question hits the nail squarely on the head. Crystal would probably argue that anyone fighting illegal immigration must be a racist. To which Liam could ask, "What color is an illegal alien?"
Crystal and people who think the same way must not realize that while not all Muslims are terrorists, the vast, vast, vast majority of all terrorist acts are undoubtedly committed by Muslim males.

Also a very good post. However, although much of those who follow the Islamic faith are from Arab lands, Muslims form a religious group and not an ethnic group per se. They can be and are of any race or creed.

Crystal made an enormous overstatement. Maybe she actually believes what she said or she may have purposely exaggerated, but we have not imprisoned, tortured and discriminated against any entire community. What a bone-headed comment!
I’m about to the point where I feel that people like Crystal are as big a threat to this country as any terrorist because they are so PC and so willing to blame America and so willing to capitulate to anyone who threatens us.

We are not allowed public holiday displays without the aclu fighting it. But other religions demand special treatment and receive. And like the Jew practices alchemy and turns water into wine; transmogrification turns the Jew into a Christian god. These two fictional characters will forever be at war and drag humans into the fray.
To strengthen and protect our country, send the Jew and the Arab gods to Mythology cemetery and that is Crystal's answer.
Note: It is Abraham's god that is the god of the Jew and the Arab; pretty silly stuff if it weren't so deadly.

This rhetoric that someone "demand" this or that is pretty nauseating. Your statement is fine until you get to that sentence. The only thing most people demand is respect as human beings, i.e., to be respected the same as any one else. It's not that difficult to figure out unless either (1) you're not a human being; (2) not an adult (in which case your brain isn't fully developed) or, (3) you are part of the crowd that listens to talk radio, in which case you're constantly being exhorted to resent others different than you, and to suspend any rational thought.
Gunny just gave his opinion but libs don't like that we have a right to give an opinion even if we don't agree with them. There is a movement to stop conservative talk radio but the libs can say and do anything they want. Free country is what they want, ya right!!!! I listened to Randi Rhodes on Air America for a very short time and have never heard such hateful terrible words come out of anybody's mouth on conservative radio.

That holds true for Randi Rhoades or any other talk radio host who needles and goads their audience into anger (most do). I always laugh when I hear something about how Christians are soooo discriminated against, and how Muslims get a free pass. This is not reality. I can't recall the last time a total stranger came to my door for the purpose of converting me to Islam - but I do recall many times when that stranger wanted to convert me to some Christian denomination. Again, I don't recall the last time I stayed in a hotel room and found the Koran in the nightstand, etc.
Anyway, the implication that Christians are persecuted in this country and Muslims are not is a total fantasy of persecution. Of course, that is basically the underlying message of right wing talk radio: "White people are the REAL victims of racism!" "Christians are under attack!" "These damn young people!" "This country's going to hell in a handbasket!" ... Sound familiar?

I'm a Marine vet too, but I wouldn't dream of using my service as a way to sell a product (unlike Bob, my political views are not for sale). Believe it or not, veterans have a variety of views--and for that matter, a variety of faiths. A couple of Leaderhip traits they drill into all Marines are "honesty" and "integrity". Talk radio has neither. It is the antithesis of these traits.

To Pat and Sean and others, I say we are currently imprisioning, torturing and dehumanizing people at Guatanamo Bay, Abu Gharib AND in U.S. prisons. This list is by no means exhaustive. Do your research and you'll quickly find many of the tactics used for this so-called "war on terror" have been and continue to be used in the United States on United States citizens!
