Confused about taxes
This letter has not been edited.
A tax rate freeze is not a tax hike, no matter how many Republkicans claim it is. It may cause a revenue increase compared to a rate decrease, but it is not a tax hike, period. If you think the rate freeze violates TABOR, then sue the State.
Homeowners love it when property values increase, but at the same time, they want their taxes to decrease. They want it both ways: High property values for selling purposes, nonexistent property value for tax purposes. Get someone else to pay for schools, roads, etc. Besides, with this alleged forclosure and home loan crisis taking place, fewer people apparently can own homes, which means that house prices will fall, which means that property taxes will fall. But then homeowners will complain that their property values are too low.
Part of owning property is paying taxes. If you don't want to pay property taxes, rent!
we had a surplus with Clinton and now we have the largest deficit ever. GOP loves to spend money that future generations will have to pay.
Posted by Ann on September 18, 2007 02:56 PMyou just gotta love how all the libs just love someone else to pay taxes and will cover up increases with what ever methog they can. the freeze was for the school mill levee that was to go down next year but will remain the same under the freeze or increase.
clintons surplus was a paper one

As opposed to the very real, very tangible, piss-it-all-away deficit we have now?

How about the illegal aliens and anchor baby parents?
Posted by on September 18, 2007 06:11 PM3:35PM is wallowing in a world of delusion. The Republican Party is not the party of conservatives anymore. Just whack jobs like 3:35PM who rant about "liberals" but turns a blind-eye to the fact that his party pisses away taxpayers' money just as quickly. 3:35PM, if you truly think you're any different than a "liberal", then you're a complete idiot.
Posted by Dan on September 18, 2007 07:35 PMIf it means I pay more in taxes without receiving any more in compensation it is a tax increase. Just wait until a court gets hold of this. They are going to get slapped down. By that time the lies from Ref C will be exposed and the permanent changes will be ruled unconstitutional.
We will be ready for it by then. They might have been able to sell us another bill of goods if they hadn't lied then spent like drunken sailors. Good thing for the taxpayers that the majority of the Democrats in power still think we are all bumpkins to be bought off with pretty words and empty promises.
Just remember in 2008 all of the Union activity and perks - not only here in colorado but nationally, and then remember Ref. C, and then remember the "property Tax Freeze", then remember the Blue Ribbon Commission and then cast your ballot accordingly! Otherwise you'll pay for it in the long run as we are already starting to see.
Posted by on September 18, 2007 09:22 PMWhat a bunch of fools!!! Defending the Republican and democratic parties as if they really cared about you......HA! There truly are suckers born every minute and our politicians know it.
Posted by on September 19, 2007 04:10 AMRitter's already got 17 tax hike proposals awaiting taxpayer approval. His Blue Ribbion commission proposals will suck the last remaining drop of blood out of our wallets. Ritter's also got the Roan and Vermillion out of bounds, so we won't see any much needed tax receipts from those obvious sources.
There is nothing to be confused about, Anthony--we have a taxocrat for a governor. Did you expect anything less?
Posted by Hank on September 19, 2007 07:55 AMIf Dems have never met a tax they don't like then Reps have never seen money they can't spend. The hell with Iraq and the rest of the world, lets get our economy on the positive track and let the people have their money spent by themselves not an out of control congress that thinks there is no end to money the people can be taxed for.
It is the congress, right and left, that have brought our economy to the point of record foreclosures, a budget full of special interest programs costing untold billions and useless pork barrel and earmarked deficit spending and allowed China to amass 900 billion dollars in U.S. treasury bills and bonds that if they were dumped on the world market, would bankrupt the country.
If you think this was accomplished by one or the other party alone you are as delusional as the politicians to what finanacial responsibility and having a balanced mean.
Posted by Allen Campbell on September 19, 2007 11:16 AMbalanced budget that is.
Posted by Allen Campbell on September 19, 2007 11:19 AMAllen,
How can China "dump" bonds? Don't they have a maturity date? I mean, they can sell their bonds in the market, but only if someone buys them. And the government doesn't have to pay the principal until they mature. Or am I missing something?
Posted by on September 19, 2007 03:27 PMThe confusing part about taxes for many Americans is the Income Tax. THe IRS will refuse to provide the law if you ask them and so some people in the U.S have to pay this tax while others do not. In a recent Federal Tax evasion case, Lousinana attorney Tom Cryer was found not guilty of tax evasion, 12 to 0 by a jury and so he does not have to pay the tax. In this case he was able to prove that the income tax code does not define the word "Income" and that his labor is not a taxable profit as the government contends. So some of us have to pay and others do not, which is confusing.
