Democratic funding scandal
One would be hard pressed to find any coverage in the mainstream press about the Democratic scandal under investigation by the Department of Justice. Last week the Wall Street Journal reported possible campaign-finance law violations by New York businessman, Norman Hsu. According to the report, Hsu, the William Paws, and other associates “have collectively donated nearly $1 million to an array of candidates the past few years, including the Presidential campaign of Mrs. Clinton.” Yet, where is the outrage? In view of mainstream media’s obsession with the Republican ”scandals” in recent months, the possible campaign-finance law violations do not seem to matter. It is a classic illustration of where its priorities really are.

Quite the contrary, oh great liberal intellect. It's both funny as a joke and descriptive of run of the mill Democrat bigots (ideological bigot, as opposed to johnnie 2boy, the racist homophobic) such as you.
You just didn't appreciate the poster's sense of humor and accurate description because it nailed you on that small bullseye located on your equally small and closed brain.

Stuckey -- Even the liberal rag Denver Post had it covered this morning: 1st section, page 12A, "Campaign '08"; "Donor Flap Tripping Up Clinton". Even talks about the fears arising in the Clinton camp about being linked to scandal, etc. You'll love it...
Posted by on September 12, 2007 02:29 PMHere's a better joke:
While suturing a cut on the hand of a 75-year old Texas rancher, whose hand had been caught in a gate while working cattle, the doctor struck up a conversation with the old man. Eventually the topic got around to former Texas Governor, George W. Bush and his elevation to the White House.
The old Texan said, "Well, ya know, Little Georgie Bush is just a "post turtle".
Not being familiar with the term, the doctor asked him what a "post turtle" was.
The old rancher said, "When you're driving down a country road and you come
across a fence post with a turtle balanced on top, that's a 'post turtle.'"
The old man saw a puzzled look on the doctor's face, so he continued to explain, "You know he didn't get there by himself, he doesn't belong there, he doesn't know what to do while he's up there, and you just want to help the dumb s&*t get down."
where are all the hot headed liberal left in congress like dick turbin and joey calling for an investigation into this? oh wait its a clinton and she will get a free pass. she returned the money because she was caught and for no other reason.
yep just same old same old at the dnc

It’s not exactly hard work by the Denver Post to get the word out about Hsu by burying the story on page 12A. I suspect the paper knows that many, maybe even most readers don’t read the paper much past the first five to eight pages before moving on to sports or comics. I wonder why they didn’t place it a lot closer to the front of the paper where it might be seen by more readers. Where do you suppose it would have landed had it been a Republican candidate who received such donations?
The most interesting thing about this is Hsu had been a FUGITIVE since 1991 and was STILL raising money for the Democrats!!!! HHHHMMMM

darfor - So true. Both sides of the aisle seem to forget who they work for and whose money it is they spend. If we could muster enough voters together we could oust these career politicans and even put an Ind in the white house for some much needed change.
That would shock the heck out of the current front runners.

WASHINGTON — Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, whose campaign is returning $850,000 in contributions linked to disgraced fundraiser Norman Hsu, indicated Wednesday that donors who contributed that money could donate to her presidential campaign once again.
"We're not asking that that be done," she said in a teleconference with reporters. "But I believe that the vast majority of those 200-plus donors are perfectly capable of making up their own minds about what they will or won't do going forward."
Clinton's remarks were her first public comments on the affect Hsu's unraveling fortunes have had on her presidential campaign. Hsu was a leading money "bundler" for Clinton, earning the title of HillRaiser for his fundraising activities.
"It was very difficult for us to make any decision other than returning the contributions that were in any way connected to him and that is what we decided to do," she said.
Clinton's campaign said this week that any donors whose money was returned could donate once again if they confirm to the campaign that the contributions are from their own personal funds.

If Hsu was connected to Rudy,Fred or Mitt you would have non stop daily headlines pushing the trendy, manufactured, Republican "culture of corruption" nonsense.
Where are the investigative reporters, editorials and followup news stories critical of Dems on this story, that would be HUGE if not for Dem involvement.
As it is,Hillary and Obama get a major pass, and will continue to ,thanks to the dominate, liberal main stream media.

Posted by on September 12, 2007 10:45 PMAll right..my turn.
Hilary has been involved in another fund raising problem that I have NOT seen mentioned anywhere. She and Bill bought a small farm in Arkansas and decided to grow some crops on it so they could claim to be "common" folks. Neither of them knew anything about farming but the farmer down the road had fantastic crops. They asked him his secret and he, just pulling their leg, told them they needed to let a white mule roam around the fields all winter. He had a beautiful white mule and the Clintons offered him five thousand dollars for the mule, in cash. He accepted and agreed to keep the mule for them until they could get a pickup truck with cattle sides and come back on Monday.
When they got back to his house on Monday the man was very upset and nervous. He explained that he had taken the cash in to town to put it in the band and had gotten so drunk he hadn't made it home until Sunday morning. He checked the barn and the mule the Clintons had bought was dead. He had paid some bills with the money but offered to return the rest and pay off the difference as soon as he could. Hilary just smiled and asked the farmer to help the truck driver put the dead mule in the back of the truck. She told him he could keep the money because she got the mule.
The old farmer was puzzled but he wasn't going to borrow trouble. A few months later he saw the truck driver at the bar in town and asked him why they'd taken a dead mule. The man laughed.
"we took it to Little Rock and raffled him off to raise campaign money for Hilary. Sold twenty thousand tickets at a dollar each."
The farmer shook his head. "Didn't that make a lot of people mad?
"Nope." the driver said. "Just one fella and we gave him his dollar back."
Get Real
If it was Rudy or Fred we wouldn't have heard a peep from the conservative media.
BTW Here's a little Romney scandal that has been completely ignored by the conservative media:
"Romney's national finance committee co-chairman Alan B. Fabian was, according to an August 9 Associated Press article, "charged in a 23-count indictment unsealed Thursday [August 9] with mail fraud, money laundering, bankruptcy fraud, perjury and obstruction of justice." The AP reported that Fabian "allegedly ran a scheme to make $32 million in false purchases of computer equipment, spending the money instead on beach real estate and private jet travel." Fabian resigned from Romney's finance committee shortly after being indicted."
Posted by GK on September 13, 2007 08:06 AMClinton gave the donated money back after it was revealed HSU was a fraud. What's the problem? How much money did present legislators and other government officials take from special interests? That is the problem. And guess what folks, both Reps and Dems are equally quilty and the amounts thus gained are in the ten's of millions of dollars. What HSU gave is peanuts by comparison.
Posted by Allen Campbell on September 13, 2007 08:13 AM"Clinton gave the donated money back..."
BBWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
Then why won't Hillary reveal to whom she sent the money (certainly it wasn't t sent to Hsu) and how much did she send? Why all the secrets regarding the money trail? Why no data, no records, no bank trail? Why all the stealth? What is Hillary hidding?
Why and what? Because she already got every dime of it back! With the Clintons, Chinese money travels faster than light. Just ask Loral's Bernie Schwartz.

She most certainly did not get the money back. Prove it if she did get all of it back or keep your thoughts to yourself. Asking hypothetical questions is a cheap trick or are you starting to believe everthing is so just because you say it is. Hillary is the new stepping stone for the radical right wing zealots or so they think. If they had half the intelligence she has thay might stand a chance but, of course they don't so they must rely on stupid contrived questions that have no basis in fact.
Posted by Allen Campbell on September 13, 2007 09:21 AMLIKE I JUST SAID, THE $$$ HAS ALREADY DONE THE CHINESE/CLINTON MONEY MERRY-GO-ROUND---HILLARY ALREADY GOT EVERY DIME BACK!
"Hillary Clinton is returning $850,000 raised by felon fundraiser Norman Hsu, who was captured in a B-movie version of The Fugitive when he became ill on a train bound for Denver after jumping bail in San Francisco. But, she says, donors of the bundled money raised by Hsu should feel free to re-donate to her campaign:
"We're not asking that that be done," she said in a teleconference with reporters. "But I believe that the vast majority of those 200-plus donors are perfectly capable of making up their own minds about what they will or won't do going forward."
How come Hillary's campaign wasn't aware of the background this guy had? They claim ignorance. Why wasn't any sort of background check done?
Someone doing so much fundraising as to earn the name "Hillraiser" should have been looked into.
Either there was an extreme lack of good jusdgement here or extreme arrogance in knowing you'd get a pass from the media should this ever become an issue.
Posted by KW on September 13, 2007 10:06 AMhillary did know about this guy because illegally gave money to the most corrupted, second most incompetent president in our lifetime, billy bob.He was a wanted fugitive 15 years ago for those illegal contributions to clinton and other corrupt dems.
Posted by Keith on September 13, 2007 10:33 AMHank,
So, the individual donors, should have no right to donate to the campaign of their choice, while the businesses, and others, who constantly fund the Right Wingnut Party - often by illegal means, such as employee "kickbacks", or "donations", that put the amount of money turned over, above the legal limits, but allow invoking exemptions because of the "individual" nature of part of the monies etc., - should just go blithely along doing "business as usual"? Is that your premise?
KW,
How much "due diligence" is exercised by the Right Wingnut party over the donors, and fund raisers who fill its coffers?
Posted by Old Grouch on September 13, 2007 10:40 AMGrouch:
In case you didn't know, Grouch, there are strict legal dollar limits per donation. It can't come from one guy and get funneled througfh 200 folks who have a history of being very poor. That's illegal, Grouch, illegal. And convicted felons (grand theft) and fugitives (from California) are hardly a good place to strat looking for donations.
Not to worry, Grouch, the same old Clinton/Chinese Communist recycling money machine will get every dime back into Hillary's hands before you eat lunch, per my post above.
Back to your snooze, Grouch. ZZZZZZZZZZZ!

Funny that Stinkey doesn't give ask why Alan Fabian isn't on the front page of every newspaper in the country. Who is Alan Fabian you ask. He was the co-chairman of the Mitt Romney campaign national finance committee who was indicted on 23 felony counts of defrauding companies out of $32 million. Most people would consider those indictments newsworthy if Mitt was a Democrat but since he is a Republican then poor persecuted Stinkey doesn't give Alan a second thought.

I've tried posting about Fabian above and in other posts but these wingnuts ignore their hypocrisy and the fact that the MSM is indeed favoring the right.
Posted by GK on September 13, 2007 02:02 PMWes, GK - The charges Fabian was arrested for are not at all connected to anything involving Romney's campaign. All charges are for activities in Fabian's prior business dealings.
I'd say Romney better stay clear of this guy but this is in no way the same as Hillary receiving illegal campaign contributions.
Did you see the $770,000 fine Soros was hit with for illegal campaign contributions? Highest fine EVER leveled against anyone for this violation.
No? Didn't see it?
Then maybe you understand why so many people know how scandals are created by the media. Or as in the dem cases, not created.

I thank you for that "joke." However, I find it very apropos regarding national politics in this country; and pertaining to both parties equally.
Posted by mongoose on September 13, 2007 03:54 PMHank,
I do know about "legal limits". I also know about the ways in which Republican funds get "donated" too. The "holier than thou" approach is rather childish, even for you.
KW,
But, both sides! Same difference! One could go all the way back to Nixon's $300K hold-out, in his office safe, that financed most of the coverup that got even the then Attorney General convicted as a felon. Or even back all the way to the Teapot Dome, where once again Republican "virtue" proved to be mostly conspicuous by its absence.
Gee! Whiz! Now the Right Wingnuts have something to crow about. Aside from the usual Republican/"conservative" Architypical spokes-persons comments about "liberal lies and liars", along with the ones about "Democrat cowards and America haters", on every line in the blog, that is.
Hey! You gotta make the most of what you have, with the kind of representation you have on the blog already. So, have fun.

Romney received funds from Fabian that he had to return.
The media is so tilted right it's ridiculous.
Posted by GK on September 13, 2007 05:03 PMHillary is behind protecting and encouraging outsourcing of jobs, especially to India. If your job was outsourced, leaving you unemployed, send a thank you note to her.
Several industrial States attempted to enact anti-outsourcing laws in 2005, but those bills either failed and were defanged before passage.
As pressure mounted to kill outsourcing, Hillary Clinton, John Kerry, and Chuck Schumer were instrumental in created the Senate India Caucus (which was "coordinated" by the US India Political Action Committee) to lobby Senators who were attempting to derail job outsourcing. When the Caucus was formed, Hillary Clinton told Roll Call that "...[i]t is imperative that the United States do everything possible to reach out to India. This Caucus is dedicated to expanding areas of agreement with India and engaging in a candid dialogue of differences." With their money in her pocket, what else could she say? Hillary is a co-chairman of the Caucus. On the House side, Hillary's allies are House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Congressman Joe Crowley [D-NY]. (If your job has been outsourced, you now know who to thank.)
In 2005 when it appeared outsourcing would have stiff penalties, Clinton and Chatwal went to India on Feb. 28 to personally assure Hillary's constituents in the New York suburbs of Punjab that outsourcing was safe and that the United States government would make no attempt to save the jobs being lost to outsourcing. (At a recent fundraiser hosted for Hillary by Dr. Rajwant Singh at his Potomac, Maryland home—who raised $50 thousand for Clinton that evening—the Senator joked "I can certainly run for the Senate seat in Punjab and win easily.")
Meanwhile, back to Chatwal. In March, 2007—after Clinton and Chatwal returned from India—Chatwal committed to raising $5 million for Hillary's presidential campaign."Outsourcing," she had assured her "Punjab" constituents in India on Feb. 28, 2007, "will continue. There is no way to legislate against reality. We are not in favor of putting up fences." Not even, apparently, one on the border. Shortly after returning to the United States, the Delaware-based IT Professionals Association of America [ITPAA]—which represents IT professionals nationwide—voted Hillary Clinton its "Weasel Award," which is given each year to business and political leaders who betray the trust of the American people.
Posted by on September 13, 2007 05:08 PMGK - According to Wes's link, Fabian's donation was returned by Romney voluntarily. He wasn't required to.
The crimes though are all still stemming from prior business deals not connected with Romney.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Romney fan either. Just like to see the correct versions of the story be told.
