Horrified by Greeley forum
I am horrified by the antics of Weld County District Attorney, Ken Buck, doing what he can to stir up reservoirs of racial prejudice so as to solidify his position as the law-and-order guy who will attract an Immigration and Customs Enforcement office to Greeley. And I’m ashamed that the DA’s blatant hate-mongering has not fallen on deaf ears, as manifest by the 500 citizens who chose to attend the September 19 meeting, called by the North Colorado Conservative Alliance (NCCA), where Mr. Buck held forth about the illegal immigrant crime menace in our community.
Bill Johnson in his “Rocky Talk” column, published on Saturday September 22, deftly skewers Mr. Buck for a total lack of data to back up his contention that illegal immigrants contribute enough to the overall crime picture to merit singling out. In that commentary Johnson describes the audience at the NCCA meeting as “\[a\] throng of mostly cowboy-hat-and-big-buckle-wearing Americans.”
Here’s where the average liberal writer would reply, “We’re not all cowboys in Weld County,” or “Not all cowboys are like that,” or “Some of my best friends are cowboys,” all true. Instead, I’d like to point out that, in his caricature of my fellow citizens, Johnson calls on a host of prejudicial mental pictures of western-style rednecks. Tarring anybody with such an unflattering stereotype is wrong, including white rural folks.

Marc, the racism angle doesn't play anymore. These are concerned Americans. Here is an excerpt from other letters to the editor from El Paso Times in Tx. This letter is not atypical but a weekly occurence. It isn't a racist thing but a fairness thing.
Illegal immigration 9-27-07
It worries me that people in this part of the country think that an illegal or undocumented immigrant has rights to be in this great country of ours.
They are not able to tell the difference between an immigrant who was inspected and admitted and one who entered illegally.
An illegal alien is just what is means, AN ILLEGAL ALIEN, a person who has not been inspected and admitted legally and is therefore deportable. There are hundreds of thousands of immigrants waiting their turn to enter this country legally and they are waiting in their country.
Why should we go out of our way to accommodate one who was not legally admitted?
Any person who assists an illegal alien to evade removal or deportation should be held accountable for his/her actions and brought before a court of law.

We should surrender our country to be overrun by that large ethnic group, to turn into the very same kind of third-world nation from where that ethnic group originates, because the greater good is to not be racist. We have enough problems with Americans doing crimes against Americans, why invite more crime from a controllable population? Enforce the immigration and hiring laws. Increase the penalty for those who hire illegals.

IT'S NOT RACISM. IT'S ABOUT ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION and the Weld County DA gives a damn about making sure the people of Greeley know what the impact of this invasion is on their city.

It was meeting to inform people that live in Greeley that the they have a problem..and that problem is crimes committed by illegal aliens. I hope that by bringing this problem out in the open that people will realize that there is a serious problem that needs resolution. For illegal aliens that wear shirts "I am not a criminal", yes you are, you broke the law by sneaking into this country, by using forged and/or stolen documents to obtain services that you are not entitled to. This meeting was NOT ABOUT RACE! Come up with a better argument, the RACE card is old and does not hold water anymore, American Citizens are waking up that there is a serious problem and WE the people are going to have to deal with it.

It's absolutely true that the flippers talk racism,comparing the present illegal-alien crisis to the late '50s African-American civil rights movement.
In the latter instance,the federal government did indeed (mostly) resolve the situation.We should remember,though,that THAT government was the one that smashed the Axis flat,led by Dwight D. Eisenhower,the hero of Normandy.
THIS government is the one that ran away from Viet Nam,that cowered before the Ayatollah,and now fawns on his lieutenant Mahmoud at Columbia University.
For the flippers to expect that THIS government will act as did THAT government is foolish,perhaps fatally so.
Why help people who live among us, yet have NO allegiance our nation? How long can a nation last when it is full of people who HATE it? Full of people who just USE it for financial gain?

Illegal immigration/illegal aliens hurts every citizen without regard to ethnic background. Most of our civil concerns (health insurance, hospitals, schools....etc etc.) can be mediated or vastly improved by deportation of illegals and punishing employers of illegals. What I find horrific, is the lack of concern for American citizens.
