Iraq and US benchmarks
Thursday, September 13 at 2:00 PM

Brian Quade of Denver writes:

Is it any surprise that the Iraqi government has not met the benchmarks set by the US government? How often does the United States government strive to meet benchmarks set by some other government? Perhaps the Iraqi government doesn’t really care about US benchmarks.

or those "benchmarks" were just a rouse to keep us there longer. I suspect there was never any intention for them to achieve those "benchmarks" in the first place, and our government probably KNEW IT

Stop quoting Fox News! Those benchmarks were made by the Iraqis not congress. Congress refers to them for the Iraq report card. Easy how the "LIberal" media can manipulate public perspective. That is unless Sen. Hagel R-Nebraska was lying in the hearings the other day. He was specific to introduce that fact that these benchmarks were made by the Iraqis onto themselves. That is my sourse.

More Liberal and Conservative Blah Blah Blah - these posts are getting tiring. Why is it we rehash the same tired rhetoric of yesterday over and over again?
I know you are but what am I? this country is swirling the drain right now and it is up to the average citizen (such as those of us on these posts) to do something to stop the pride from draining away. Bitching at each other on these posts just seems to sap more of that energy that could be redirected elsewhere - like towards our corrupt politicians in Washington.

The fact is the Iraqi government haven't address alot of the benchmarks because if the dems get there way to cut and run those benchmarks will be useless. They will be in a total disaster with Al Qaeda on one side killing them and Iran on the other. And they know Al Qaeda will use there country for a base.In lay terms they know just like the educated Americans the lying democraps can't be trusted or relied upon. They saw what the liberals did to the people in Vietnam.

Keith--yeah, its the Democrats fault that the president's war is a failure and that the Iraqi government isn't meeting the benchmarks it set for itself, the benchmarks we were told a short while ago would determine if--or if not--the 'surge' was working, and for which the 'surge' was suppose to create the political space to have happen. Go back to Faux Noise.

Yo, name calling children:
The middle east oil MUST keep flowing - we don't have to own it (oil represents less than 4% of the US gnp) but the oil must keep flowing or ALL the economies of the world will be thrown into a grand funk that would make the 'great depression' look like a picnic. Oil is the single biggest contributor to all the prosperity that exists in the world today - take it away or make a serious shortage and all the world will suffer (many more will starve). The concept of capitalism and the "American Way" is far from perfect but in this imperfect system opportunity abounds. We will do what ever it takes to keep the oil flowing and will not allow Iraq, Syria, Iran or any of the others to upset the economy of the world. Leftists world wide call it 'imperialism and hegemony' but it can be no other way unless you want constant upheaval, depression, and revolution and far more poverty than exists today. The US will be imbedded in the middle east for the next 50 years and the oil will continue to flow until we can find a replacement! This will be the case regardless of which party is in power.

Someone tell me the last time the US government met the benchmarks of the American people?

5 years ago, 10 years ago, ever?

Regardless of what party is in office. Congress and the Senate have lower ratings than the President. They vote themselves pay raises every year, better health benefits every year. Take more vacations and recesses every year. Spend more time snipping back and forth every year. Getting less and less done every year. Spending more and more money every year.

Heck we've been at this for 200+ years, and yet we expect someone else to have the perfect answers in 2, 3, 4, 5 years.

Who are we kidding...

crusty, did you buy your crystal ball at WalMart? It takes both arrogance and ignorance for a person to claim he knows the future in this day and age.

Those damn communist-pinko, America-hating, terrorist-loving, Hillary/Bill Clinton suckos and dumb-ass liberals are idiots.

I must have missed some of Keith's points there but I'm sure he'll straighten us all out.
