Just leave equipment in Iraq or sell it and get out
One other excuse offered for not beginning a troop withdrawal from Iraq is that there is so much military and support inventory it would take perhaps 18 months to return it to the United States.
Why bring it back? Some 80 percent to 90 percent of what’s there is out-of-date. After World War II, a thousand tons of military equipment was dumped in the Pacific. Flyable aircraft wound up in Arizona deserts to rust. Only aircraft got out of Vietnam — also to the Arizona desert.
Why not put the military and support equipment now in Iraq — except for special designation — up for sale? There could be interest from Turkey down the coastline to Egypt. Why not Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, perhaps even the Kurds.
Absolutely everything should not go to waste.
Hollis Bach, Castle Rock
The reason to bring thing back is because later that country will use the same thing against you. The U.S. gave planes and other thing to Iran when they were friendly with them in the 70's and they use the same things against us. Learn a lesson.
Posted by LMM on September 28, 2007 05:09 AMBright idea. Lets just leave some of the most high tech military gear ever made behind. This way all terrorist and other antiAmerican countries can get ahold of opur gear and use it later to kill us.
How STUPID are the left?
Posted by on September 28, 2007 05:44 AMIt's about oil? Good. I was afraid it was about giving democracy to those who don't deserve it
Posted by Clarence Boddicker on September 28, 2007 05:50 AMCongress barely funded the "army we had"(ref rumsfeld) when we entered iraq ($$$ is one of the reason behind the lack of up-armored HMMWVs when OIF started)- People complain daily baout how much money is bbeing spent there. Are you aware of how much money it would require to re-fit those brigades that are there?
Posted by brian on September 28, 2007 06:06 AMI want an assessment of the book value of this stuff. Send federal assessors Cheney, Bush, Lott (Ole Miss cheerleader), McConnell, Boehner, Reid, Gates, Billie Mae Owens, Mitt (big game hunter), Rudy, Allard (communist-sider), phoney-Fred, Larry "Hands-Jive" Craig, David "Diaper Dandy" Vitter, Lim"P"baugh, Bill phone-sex offender" O'Reilly, Lamborn (God-Squad), Shamnesty Salazar, etc., to perform this task. Ooops! MY BAD! These wankers already have a reputation of cutting and running, when America called them to serve.
Posted by draftdodgingisntafamilyvalue on September 28, 2007 07:37 AMAnother unrealistic loony tune from the left heard from...
Fantasize on; you'll find a lot of support for such mental self abuse on this board.
Posted by on September 28, 2007 07:47 AMBrillian't, now that we are finally kicking butt let's cut-n-run. The DNC must have worked overtime to come up with this profound act of stupidity! Did Field Marshall Murtha come up with stroke of genius?
Posted by Hank on September 28, 2007 07:50 AMPoor old Hank. Could it be Alzheimer's? He thinks that the letter writer, Hollis Bach, is the same person as Murtha and is also the DNC.
Posted by Truth on September 28, 2007 08:27 AMLobbyest brother of Field Marshall murtha made millions off military contracts before they ran out. That's when murtha got on the terrorist side. Now he might be able to re-start those contracts if we leave all that equipment.
Posted by Keith on September 28, 2007 08:39 AMBut Hank, you kept making the claim that we were kickin butt all this time, why all of a sudden the change of heart?
And why won't you give me your credit card numbers?
Posted by Larry on September 28, 2007 09:08 AMThe reason to bring thing back is because later that country will use the same thing against you. The U.S. gave planes and other thing to Iran when they were friendly with them in the 70's and they use the same things against us. Learn a lesson.
This is the same compelling argument against the U.S. arming and training of Sunni clans in Anbar province, that much touted (and only apparent) 'success' of The Surge strategy?
We are arming and funding the groups who are opposed to the same Iraq central government we've fought so hard to establish. As history has shown, as you rightly point out, friends now does not mean friends forever.
Your 'learn a lesson' admonishment applies equally, if not more, to Gen. Petreaus/Bush ... since we've entrusted them with much more than one of us random bloggers.
Posted by on September 28, 2007 09:37 AMOnce again the left andsurredist want all to believe it is ok to just pack up and walk away.
With an attitude like this which was also present at the begininng of the civil war, slavery would still be in practice. Many then said war was not neccesary.
The defeatist prior to WWI under Wilson and the League of Nations agreed that war was not needed.
It took a cowardly attack on Pearl harbor to get America into WWII.
I suppose Korea can be argued as not needed to protect the slaughter of South Koreans who did not want to live under oppression. (Pusan Perimeter ring a bell).
Viet Nam, where we tried to clean up the mess left by our dear French allies. Certainly not needed.
Boy wasn't it good we did not get invlovdin Cambodia where millions were reeducated with a bullet to the brain.
Now a bright thought of leaving high tech available or to be sold to these regimes in order for them to later down the road use it against thier own people or worse yet us.
Sometimes doing the right thing is not popular but it is the humane thing to do.
Posted by TheFew,TheProud,MARINES on September 28, 2007 09:42 AMWhat is this "high tech gear"? We need descriptions.
Put it all together, blow it up and come home to your families.
Posted by Sharon B. on September 28, 2007 11:25 AMAs my tax dollars helped pay for that equipment, I want free delivery to me of 15 RPG's, 5 M-16's with 5000 rounds of ammo each, 1 armor plated Humvee, with 500 gallons of gas, a blackhawk helicopter, and 3 dozen SAM missiles. Just send them to me here in Denver, and I will take them off the streets and out of the hands of Muslim terrorists.

I'll try to give a description of the military equipment a liberal woman such as your are can understand.
Some are Do-Hickies that shoot those awful bullets and mortars that kill your pals(The Enemy).
Then there's Diddly Bobs that transport and protect our troops.
Not to mention some Nick Knacks and Patty Whacks that fly around dropping those inhumane bombs on your buddies and that evacuate our wounded boys.
Lets blow it all up so we won't be able to use it against those poor murdering terrorists ever again and we will all live happily ever after in our Utopia.

"I'll try to give a description of the military equipment a liberal woman such as your are can understand." plus the body of the letter...
There's a definition for this type of letter:
con·de·scend·ing
1. To descend to the level of one considered inferior; lower oneself.
2. To deal with people in a patronizingly superior manner.
Must have been written by Sharon B's favorite admirer; John 2

So I did get my condesending, patronizing and my favorite which you forgot to mention,
"Politically Incorrect " message across.
Why that's just great!! Fantastic!!
Most of the times liberals are so dense it just goes right over their heads.
Posted by The Truth Detector on September 28, 2007 01:14 PMTruth Detector, sorry, I thought you knew about this stuff, at least enough to name some of the specific things we would be leaving behind.
Anything that flies, comes home. Anything on wheels we have to drive out of the country or into a cargo plane.
What high tech stuff is too large to drive or fly out? Or is it just a matter of time that once we start leaving, we will not be able to get all the smaller stuff like GPD`s, electronic communications equipment and small arms?
Posted by Sharon B. on September 28, 2007 01:19 PMSharon B.; The Truth Detector is full of BS and knows not what he is talking about. Hence, the drivel instead of actual facts and descriptions.

Everything That I would like to leave over there unfortunatly is over here. You and all the liberals and Democrats running for President to start with.
Your secret little buddy Post 1:34 Mr. or M.S.
"Hence" and "Drivel" would be scratching his sand fleas.
You could finally try to join up with them to fight against Bush and Cheney before they behead you immoral infidels.
To your surprise Bush and especially Cheney
also need to be their to do their share of the fighing they expect our boys to do for them.
Maybe they can try to save you when the head lopping starts.
I don't discriminate along party lines. It just happens to be that your group has more losers in it.
The Truth Detector (02:16PM) spews forth a logical, well reasoned response that really expressed his position and the intelligence supporting the position.
Posted by on September 28, 2007 02:50 PMTruth detector, those Do-Hickies were the ones you gave your hooker girl friend last night after she gave you her money.
your Diddly Bobs, sound like a personal problem to me. Are they really Diddly?
Nick Knacks and Patty Whacks is your name for what you have and how you spend your afternoons playing with them. Funny stuff, do you see the humor?
But you never answered the question.
