Just leave equipment in Iraq or sell it and get out

One other excuse offered for not beginning a troop withdrawal from Iraq is that there is so much military and support inventory it would take perhaps 18 months to return it to the United States.
Why bring it back? Some 80 percent to 90 percent of what’s there is out-of-date. After World War II, a thousand tons of military equipment was dumped in the Pacific. Flyable aircraft wound up in Arizona deserts to rust. Only aircraft got out of Vietnam — also to the Arizona desert.
Why not put the military and support equipment now in Iraq — except for special designation — up for sale? There could be interest from Turkey down the coastline to Egypt. Why not Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, perhaps even the Kurds.
Absolutely everything should not go to waste.

The reason to bring thing back is because later that country will use the same thing against you. The U.S. gave planes and other thing to Iran when they were friendly with them in the 70's and they use the same things against us. Learn a lesson.

Bright idea. Lets just leave some of the most high tech military gear ever made behind. This way all terrorist and other antiAmerican countries can get ahold of opur gear and use it later to kill us.

Congress barely funded the "army we had"(ref rumsfeld) when we entered iraq ($$$ is one of the reason behind the lack of up-armored HMMWVs when OIF started)- People complain daily baout how much money is bbeing spent there. Are you aware of how much money it would require to re-fit those brigades that are there?

This is the same compelling argument against the U.S. arming and training of Sunni clans in Anbar province, that much touted (and only apparent) 'success' of The Surge strategy?

We are arming and funding the groups who are opposed to the same Iraq central government we've fought so hard to establish. As history has shown, as you rightly point out, friends now does not mean friends forever.

Your 'learn a lesson' admonishment applies equally, if not more, to Gen. Petreaus/Bush ... since we've entrusted them with much more than one of us random bloggers.

Once again the left andsurredist want all to believe it is ok to just pack up and walk away.

With an attitude like this which was also present at the begininng of the civil war, slavery would still be in practice. Many then said war was not neccesary.

The defeatist prior to WWI under Wilson and the League of Nations agreed that war was not needed.

It took a cowardly attack on Pearl harbor to get America into WWII.

I suppose Korea can be argued as not needed to protect the slaughter of South Koreans who did not want to live under oppression. (Pusan Perimeter ring a bell).

Viet Nam, where we tried to clean up the mess left by our dear French allies. Certainly not needed.

Boy wasn't it good we did not get invlovdin Cambodia where millions were reeducated with a bullet to the brain.

Now a bright thought of leaving high tech available or to be sold to these regimes in order for them to later down the road use it against thier own people or worse yet us.

Sometimes doing the right thing is not popular but it is the humane thing to do.

As my tax dollars helped pay for that equipment, I want free delivery to me of 15 RPG's, 5 M-16's with 5000 rounds of ammo each, 1 armor plated Humvee, with 500 gallons of gas, a blackhawk helicopter, and 3 dozen SAM missiles. Just send them to me here in Denver, and I will take them off the streets and out of the hands of Muslim terrorists.

Then there's Diddly Bobs that transport and protect our troops.

Truth Detector, sorry, I thought you knew about this stuff, at least enough to name some of the specific things we would be leaving behind.

Anything that flies, comes home. Anything on wheels we have to drive out of the country or into a cargo plane.

What high tech stuff is too large to drive or fly out? Or is it just a matter of time that once we start leaving, we will not be able to get all the smaller stuff like GPD`s, electronic communications equipment and small arms?
