Not enough news coverage in RMN
Thursday, September 13 at 2:00 PM

Roger A. Migchelbrink of Arvada writes:

After looking at the sticky-ad letter in the paper, I made it a point to look carefully at the front page news section of the Rocky Mountain News. The first 24 pages of the news section had less than 4 actual pages of news. The rest was ads. Is it any wonder that Americans cannot adequately have informed opinions on governments and foreign affairs, let alone budgets, local policy and so on when the main news section of the paper has all of four pages of news content?

READER COMMENTS

Now aren't you happy to pay $100+ a year for seven day a week delivery of all those ads? The days of a value priced, informative newspapers are gone. You can down load the ads for the internet, get your food coupons sent by mail (if you're not a newspaper subscriber they come automatically) and get actual news from the internet.

Why pay $100+ a year to have ads delivered to your driveway...

Make that $174.95 for 48 weeks, not even a whole year. I've let my subscription lapse over this and some other reasons as well. Not the least of which is I have absolutely no interest in reading/paying for the Post every Sunday.

Good riddance RMN, I don't think it'll take long before you are out of business.

"Make that $174.95 for 48 weeks"

You received a more thorough screwing than me. I feel defrauded every time I open the paper in the morning. It's deterioration from newspaper to ad flier has been steady, if not accelerating, the last few months. And reading the Post on Sundays is totally unacceptable. I just move it from the driveway to the trash can unopened.

I paid $129.00 for 52 weeks. When this subscription expires, no more...

We dumped our Sunday to get away from the Denver post. It is quite depressing to read so many journalists masquerading opinion and agendas as news stories. I seem to remember a story about how things are getting better in Iraq, yet the first two paragraphs talked of how horrible the bombings are.
And then another story about the backlash against "undocumented workers" - give me a break.
The RMN is not much better in this realm why is it that Nitwit - I mean Littwin, Johnson, Griego et all are published in the "News" section of this paper when they should be relegated to the opinion section?

Hey, these comments crack me up. I let my subscription expire a few months ago. The paper was boring. I flipped through it in two minutes and threw it in the trash. I was shocked to receive The Denver Post on Sundays. I got so mad reading the DPS that I had to throw it straight into the trash without even removing it from the plastic bag.

I hated the thought of my money funding those liberal wackos. Paul Campos? No way. I'm not going to help pay for his "column".

News still comes in dead tree format?

I said it before--WHERE'S ICE???

Don't forget open borders Campos - at least they place his columns in the op ed section - funny thing is they only have one token conservative/libertarian in Carroll. Why not the same number of Conservatives as Liberals RMN?
Maybe then we'll subscribe again as well - as for the Denver post - they are hopeless

I too cancelled my subscription specifically because of the sticky ads on the front page.

I do not mind the full page advertisements as long as there is relevent content - somewhere.

But due to continual shrinkage in content, staff, features and service - I doubt I will restart.

No doubt the DNA is phone harrasing the fake number (my elected state representative) I gave them for me to restart.

I'm only subscribed to the Sunday edition of the Post/News, and every week some reason I end up with the Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, and occasionally Thursday editions on my doorstep as well. It's pretty funny. I pay only for Sundays but I get most of the week anyway.

I agree That all of the columinsts are nothing more than cheerleaders for the Democrats. Yesterday there was a story about the ex-Govenor of New Jersey who admitted to being gay and his wife dumped him. She is suing him for an increase in her maintenance. Nowhere in the entire article does it say he was a Democrat. You can bet if it was a Republican it would have been mentioned numerous times. I too will not renew my subscrition because of the opinions masquerading as news and the lousy delivery service on top of that.

Like Dan, we subscribed to the Sunday only paper. We were interested looking through the ads and other general sections that usually come on Sunday.

We now get a paper four days a week for the original $30 or so we paid for Sunday only. When my wife called the paper to see why the change, she was told that they redefined their subscription classification in order to "benefit their subscribers."

I bet that they reclassified their subscriptions in order to up their circulation in an effort to maintain their prevailing ad rates. The lower the circulation, the less they can charge advertisers for as space.

I would love to see a true unbiased media outlet. I would love to be able to see an exchange of ideas that would allow me to look at both sides of an issue and make up my own mind without all the name calling and bickering that takes place in today's main stream media (including newspapers) Do you think that could ever happen????

CD,

May I suggest you catch C-Span? They do show biased programming occasionally but it's identified.
