Rep. Tom Tancredo
Tuesday, September 11 at 1:52 PM

Amy Blackwell of Castle Rock writes:

As his constituent I wrote to Representative Thomas Tancredo, who is currently running for US President, to voice my objections to the renewal and authorization of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act program, wherein international communications of US citizens can be monitored without warrant. Knowing that Rep. Tancredo supports all measures that bolster the War on Terrorism, I expected his response to reaffirm his commitment to renewal of said program.
What I did not realize, however, is how far afield of the US Constitution that Tancredo has ranged in his thinking.
The following quote from his letter of response, dated August 28, 2007, provides a glimpse into his thought pattern — and it is highly disturbing.
“More than a half-century ago at the outset of the Cold War, Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson famously wrote in a civil rights case dissent that, ‘.
. . If [WE]do not temper [OUR]doctrinaire logic with a little practical wisdom, [WE]will convert the Bill of Rights into a suicide pact,’ and his observation rings as true today as it was when he first made it.”
Statements like these indicate an ongoing defilement of our most precious governmental document, which we need to counteract.

Hey truthy, check and see how many votes he has skipped this year.

Robert H. Jackson.

If [WE]do not temper [OUR]doctrinaire logic with a little practical wisdom, [WE]will convert the Bill of Rights into a suicide pact,’ and his observation rings as true today as it was when he first made it.”

Wisdom, or folly by Bobby J?

Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety.

Give me liberty or give me death.

We are Americans, we should laugh at puny attempts to destroy us, but nay, craven Americans DEMAND that our leaders strip us of our Bill Of Rights, for perceived safety.

We should remember our heritage of courage, and fight for our freedom against those enemies foreign and DOMESTIC.

I am not even going to vote for him. But I know why he is running. And by God, it's working. I admire the man. He has courage. Don't see much of that these days.

If more Americans searched the net for their news, instead of watching tv, there would be a lot more discussion about the destruction of the Bill of Rights today. The journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step. The journey is towards the N.A.U. and Global government. We are at least a few hundred steps towards fulfillment of that journey.

Holy Reality only pays lip service and fake concern for the Bill of Rights which he in reality is at every turn is trying to distort and rewrite. Only those who give aid and comfort to our enemies which is always the left wingers all sing that same worn out tune of lost rights which they use and abuse with out responsibility.
What good are the Bill of Rights to dead citizens.

OK No Blinders - just how far LEFT do you think the following Republicans were?

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.” — Theodore Roosevelt.

"As a matter of general principle, I believe there can be no doubt that criticism in time of war is essential to the maintenance of any kind of democratic government ... too many people desire to suppress criticism simply because they think that it will give some comfort to the enemy to know that there is such criticism. If that comfort makes the enemy feel better for a few moments, they are welcome to it as far as I am concerned, because the maintenance of the right of criticism in the long run will do the country maintaining it a great deal more good than it will do the enemy, and will prevent mistakes which might otherwise occur"
- Senator Robert A. Taft, December 19, 1941 (12 days post-Pearl Harbor Attack)

Flashback to 1999, when George W. Bush was governor of Texas. Then, Bush criticized President Clinton for not setting a timetable for exiting Kosovo.

George W. Bush, 4/9/99, Houston Chronicle:

“Victory means exit strategy, and it’s important for the president to explain to us what the exit strategy is.”

And on the specific need for a timetable:

George W. Bush, 6/5/99, Scripps Howard/Seattle Post-Intelligencer:

“I think it’s also important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”

Despite his past statements, Bush now refuses to apply the same standard to his war and smears those who want a similar timetable for Iraq.

Mary

All of your long winded comment is just more of your left wing scare and smoke screen tactics that has not affected you or any citizen as fas as losing your privacy rights or any other rights. The Sky is Falling and Doom and Gloom are always part of your rhetoric. You make a Mountain out of a Mole hill and most of the time just downright lie. The rest of your comment is nothing more than your personal views and like all un-American coward liberals will bend over backwards to appease America's enemies just as you did during the Vietnam war. No one abuses the Bill of Rights like your legal arm the ACLU. Concern for our rights, I think not! Just politics and deceit to further your far left agenda.

Tom Tancredo does not scare me at all. He gives me hope.

He is almost a lone wolf in his attempt to protect the American people.

GO TOM!!!!

Mary, how dare you quote President Bush directly, or put in a link that makes him look bad?

Don`t you know that running a video of one of his awful speeches is just left wing propaganda? (joke).

Tom Tancredo is real American.

From Lou Dobbs on CNN:

Democratic lawmakers in Washington D.C. could attach two amendments to the Defense Authorization Bill next week that would legalize millions of illegal aliens. We will have a special report on the continued push in congress to pass bits and pieces of the Senate's immigration reform bill that died last June.

Democrats are enemies of the people.
