Reporting on Iraq
Tuesday, September 11 at 1:50 PM

Dale Parrish of LaSalle writes:

I, as a father of a Marine in Iraq right now just wonder where the media is getting their print news.
I read reports coming out of Iraq everyday and they do not even come close to what we see in the papers or television news reports.
It maybe be because it is not coming from ones on the front line with the troops ,instead its coming from the green zone hotels.
Reports from embeds with our troops are telling of major gains in getting control of the area of trouble in Iraq and views that the troop sure is working . But where do we find this in our mainstream media?
Is it because the mainstream media has a agenda that do not fit the truth on the ground?
I think it is because it would not fit the political arena in D.C. This is a shame and a crime for our troops that are doing the job.
I see reports from the belt way that are divided and can tell it is a political game to those in charge.
The troops deserve better from our elected officials. They are doing the job that they are trained to do and are doing it well.
When was the last attack on our troops in Ramadi , Iraq wrote about? Is it because the attacks have not been happening and that good news might hurt the agenda of certain politico’s ?
Everyone needs to think out what would happen if we leave Iraq to soon and they can not sustain a free country.
Will those politico’s be willing to admit to a wrong if it blows up into a full scale conflict in the area and millions die.
I doubt it that they would because they do not have the spine to win in Iraq .
If this sounds hash it is because I have a son doing the job over there and he needs to hear it from the one’s here at home not the political games that are being played here it the States.
One final note the Surge is working to get a stable situation in place and then the political one in Iraq can begin.

First Dale I'm a vietnam vet and my understanding like vietnam in Iraq there is no front lines like you mentioned. Second it gets old hearing we don't support our troops. What we don't support is the mission. Third if you did some research on the middle east you would learn that those people have been fighting each other for thousands of years and we can spend billions and billions and loose lifes and that will never change. This war is not far away from lasting longer then WWI & WWII. And the way it's going Vietnam. So I ask you when do we say enough is enough and oh by the way what about sending good soldiers like your son to hunt for Bin Laden remember him the guy that attacked our country?

Posted by larrymc on September 11, 2007 02:51 PM

Dale, I regret to inform you, and am truly apologetic to say what must be said.

Your son's duty, and your sacrifice are not the noble aims you believe in. These wars of the last century were not to preserve freedom, or democracy.

The millions that died, and the families that mourned their loved ones, did so in vain. OUR leaders have wars prearranged. War is profit for the rich, and misery and death for those that fight them.

See General Smedley Butler, War is a Racket. He was a Marine Colonel. He prosecuted wars for United Fruit, Standard Oil, among many corporations interested in profit. The well being of the peoples of the Central American Nations plundered are of no concern.

After a life of honorable duty, his retirement was interrupted by fascists plotting a coup detat on FDR. His popularity among veterans was key to the nefarious plans. Loyal to the republic, he turned the plotters in to congress, and congress did what they do so well, DROP THE BALL.

After this episode, the General wrote his not so famous tome, "WAR IS A RACKET". He outlines how industry loves war and why corporations love fascism. Has anything changed since?

One final note the Surge is working to get a stable situation in place and then the political one in Iraq can begin.

This is the type of confusion that American has been reduced to: the stated purpose of the 'Surge' was just the reverse of this quote. The surge was meant to buy the Iraqi politicians the time needed to stabilize the central government. That hasn't happened -- just the opposite in fact.

Yet we have well-intended folks like this letter-writer who is willing to spin things around as needed.

And this just distracts us from the uncomfortable questions, such as why haven't we killed or captured Bin Laden by now?

Six years after 9/11 is a long long long time.

Imagine if Japan was still capable of attacking American soil 6 years after Pearl Harbor, while we seriously debated the relative success or failure of a military campaign, say, Madagasgar.

We are ridiculous. Patriotric perhaps, but ridiculously so.

but Truman took care that that didnt happen. we should learn from Harry and do just what he did and I bet the middle east would fall to their knees and not to pray to the sand god either.

Yes, 6 years is a long time. If the military didn't have to conduct a PC war, it would have been over long before this. All we need to do is major saturation bombing (including Mecca) and the fighting would cease. Before everyone screams bloody murder, I don't think the allies cared whether or not they destroyed Munich, Dresden or Berlin--right? We're in a WAR, which kills people and breaks things.

Now, if only our leaders would get off their bums, maybe we could bring our troops home (with victory).

Its not sociopathy if the people are brown!

Dale please thank your son for his service to our country. The Viet Nam vet should be ashamed of himself to not have done so too. Just remember that The Democrats are bought and paid for by George Soros and Moveon.org who say that General Petreaus has betrayed us. That is so despicable words can't describe it but that is the mind set of these people. They hate this country and want us to lose the war and that is why they don't want it to be reported that there is any good news from there. Those of us that love this country listen to people that know the truth including the truth from our loved ones that are there so the people that are constantly putting down this country are just flat un American no matter what they say.

Sure thing larry.

Do you have any idea how absurd that is?

How about this larry?

I support firemen as long as they don't put out fires!

Or-

I support teachers as long as they don't teach!

Hey,this is fun!

I support police as long as they don't go after criminals!

I support doctors as long as they don't heal sick people!

I support prison guards as long as they don't guard prisoners!

I support elevator repairmen , just don't let them fix elevators!

Why don't you just say what is obvious;

You don't support America or the troops,

only the terrorists.

And you picked a great day to do it.

Posted by Get Real on September 11, 2007 08:21 PM

...And you picked a great day to do it...

The counterfeit patriotism revealed by the previous post soils the memory of those who died on 9/11 more than any war skeptic ever could. Bin Laden could not have imagined the pathologic weakness in the American character that would have permitted so many to be so manipulated for so long. Unlike the gullible purported patriots, there are plenty of us who still want the person responsible for 9/11 to be captured or killed, and his organization eliminated. Why we need to wait until January 2009 is scandalous.

What are you for?

Posted by Charles B on September 11, 2007 09:27 PM

Get Real,

You're quite the joker.

You do realize that by saying he doesn't support this mission, he's not saying he doesn't support any mission.

You do realize that, but are too disingenuous to acknowledge it.

Posted by Charles B on September 11, 2007 09:31 PM

Dale you are exactly right. These idiot liberals on these post refuse to find out the facts, they always take the side of the terrorist.

Posted by Keith on September 11, 2007 09:42 PM

Rightwingers are mainly cowards, too chicken to serve. They refuse to 'walk the talk' instead they pretend to be super-patriots and attack everyone with difffering views. Liberals support the troops more than conservatives, we actually give a damn about bringing our soldiers home ALIVE! Rightwingers could care less how many American soldiers lives a war costs as long as it's not their life that is lost. They sit smugly here in the US cheering the war like its a football game, yet too yellow to enlist and support their beliefs. You want to sshow how much you love the War? Enlist! You wnat to show how much you support the Troops? Bring them home alive NOW.

Posted by joe on September 12, 2007 07:43 AM

joe,I got you a date in Cheeseman Park, his name is mac.

Posted by Keith on September 12, 2007 07:56 AM

Keith, why dont you answer my question? Why isnt a brave right wing conservative republican in the military fghting the war you so passionately believe in? I understand your love of your 'activities' in Chessman Park, but you need to love your country just as much. Besides the military has that 'no tell' rule so you will be safe there. enlighten us oh wise one.

8:54 post,If the dems.steal the election in 09/Bin Laden will be known as a great statesman.Just like when kerry called Arafat a great statesman.

Sounds like Keith has been spending too much time in Cheeseman Park. Maybe he had a date with Larry Craig.

Get Real:

Your argument basically just put a straight-jacket on the concept of dissent.

In fact, if I was to apply your argument above, then I couldn't criticize a teacher like Ward Churchill without being accused of holding a generally critical opinion of the teaching profession.

Pretty fuzzy logic.

Mr. Parriash

I want to thank your son for his service to our country.

Don't let the critics and naysayers get you down. It's their right to believe and speak as they do, and our right to support our sons and daughters who have chosen, out of belief, the commitment they are pursuing.

As with all modern wars there will be dissent and skepticism over both the wisdom and necessity in executing the was in Iraq. We can just collectively hope and pray that when it is finally over we will not have lost too many (and I know that even one can fit that category) young lives, and we can realize a recognizable benefit out of those sacrifices.

I have a son serving as an Army Combat Medic out of a FOB east of Baghdad, and an nephew serving with the Special Forces somewhere in the Afghanistan mountains in pursuit of a shadowy figurehead of al Qaeda. So I can emphasize with your mental anxiety and concerns for the safety of our loved ones.

Hang in there, Dad; remain tall and proud of your son's commitment and pray for his safe return.

Hey mongoosey, it's easy to be brave when it's your kid and not yourself in the line of fire. You should ashamed of yourself.

Posted by on September 12, 2007 03:14 PM

Letter writer Dale Parrish wants to know where the news in the media is coming from about Iraq.It is coming from the Democrat party which is getting their news from Osama Bin Laden. Then they pass it on to their friends in the media.I hope this answers your question Dale.

You don't know how lucky you have it, only having to deal with two political parties. (Click on my name for more information.)

Anon 03:14:

I think you may have hit a new low for personal insults and false accusations in your post. You attacked mongoose for supporting his son's decision and subsequent involvement in the war. He didn't defend the war, he only expressed hope that not too many lives were lost, and that some benefit could be found when it's over.

Mongoose defended himself from a similar attack earlier when someone asked why he wasn't serving in place of his son. His answer was simple -- he lost his right leg in Cambodia during the Viet Nam war.

I suggest you reconsider before throwing insults, especially at the parents of people serving our country, regardless of your personal feelings about the war in question.

Mr. Parrish, I too would like to extend my appreciation to your son for his service to our country.

That's a bunch. With that many is there as much corruption, graft and wheeling dealing going on as we have with our two centers of power elites?

Posted by CA on September 12, 2007 04:18 PM

joe,I'm doing my job over here trying to educate idiots like you.Believe me it's a tough job because you idiots are unable to consume knowledge.
