Salazar should back accomplished jurist
Judge Leslie Southwick’s overwhelming qualifications and record are interestingly absent in Pamela Elsner’s letter on his pending nomination to the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals (“No on judge, senator,” Sept. 4).
Southwick has received widespread acclaim for his outstanding judicial excellence. Having earned the American Bar Association’s highest rating of “Well Qualified,” he is one of the best nominees President Bush could offer to the federal bench. His record is so uncontroversial that, last fall, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously approved him for a District Court judgeship.
Despite this accomplished record, Sen. Ken Salazar is “still weighing the appointment” of Southwick and is “disinclined” to reconstitute the centrist “Gang of 14.” While Salazar and his fellow Democrats in Washington continue to delay and obstruct the Southwick nomination, a nonpartisan government agency has declared the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals a “judicial emergency.”
Southwick’s unblemished record proves he will uphold the law regardless of personal views. It’s time for Salazar to put politics aside and support this accomplished jurist.

it is no surprise. the dums need a very liberal court system to get all of their failed laws put on the books.
salazar can only do what his is told as he has no backbone to stand up for Colorado only do what the clintons and kennedys tell him to do.
US Sen. Shamnesty Salazar is no US Sen. McCain. McCain has frustrated me more than once, where he wouldn't vote for disabled veterans compensation raises, because he wold benefit personally. Not true with Shamnesty and his brother. They both voted in congress for their personal federal farm subsidy ($484K). These Benedict Arnolds are using this federal welfare to pay the wages of the criminal illegal Mexicans, who work on their family's farms.
I'm BLACK, and I served in 3 deployments to Vietnam, and spent 23 years of my life, on and under the oceans of the world, for the greater good of the American people. I asked Shamnesty for his assistance (Vote) in getting my VA and social security disability compenation and Shamnesty blew me off. I also sought his "vote", because his Mexican homies that control the Denver SBA and Colorado Enterprise Fund (CEF) stole my federal backed Patriots Express $150K business loan. My family owns 1 NAM Purple Heart and 4 NAM Combat Action Ribbons. My younger was shot in the face in Vietnam (USMC machine gunner) during a fire fight. He is infected with Agent Orange, PTSD, diabetic, and both of his legs need amputation.
Again, nothing heard. I don't recall seeing either Shamnesty, his brother, or the thugs in the Denver SBA/CEF, during any of my visits to Vietnam. Tancredo who falls in this same category had the audaciity to tell me it would take 45 days for him to investigate my financial and emotional raping. I never made America wait 45 days. Tancredo didn't wait 45 days for taxpayer matching campaign funds. Shamnesty, his brother, SBA/CEF thugs, and Tancredo, are all guilty of stealing my family's "blood-loot". They should be sent to SuperMax in Canon City. I proudly join US Rep. Murtha (USMC Vietnam War hero), "I wouldn't serve in todays armed forces with these guys and their draft deferments".
