Speaking out against war in Iraq
Wednesday, September 12 at 11:38 AM

Jeffrey Blustein of Denver writes:

“With the report coming in about the “Surge", Bush is campaining for his failed strategy in Iraq. What makes me most angry is when I hear Bush saying that we have to listen to the commanders on the ground, not the politicians looking at the polls".
Of course the commanders are gonna say it is working. They have to follow orders and are not allowed to speak out against their commander in chief. I remember when a few years back some soldiers speaking out against the war and specificially Rumsfeld, and guess what happened, they prosecuted him. So, the Commanders know this and will only speak in favor of the Commander in Charge. But what about the retired Generals? They can speak out against this war and surge and often do. Here are a list of just a few of them, with some of them who served in Iraq:
Retired General Paul Eaton who helped revive the Iraqi army
Maj. Gen. John Batiste, commander of the First Infantry in Iraq
Maj. Gen. Charles Swannack Jr., who commanded the 82nd Airborne Division in Iraq
Gen. Barry R. McCaffrey, who commanded troops in the first Gulf War
Retired Lt. Gen. Greg Newbold, a marine
Lt. Gen. Bernard Trainor
Gen. Merrill “Tony” McPeak, Air Force Chief of Staff
Gen. Joseph P. Hoar
Adm. William Crowe
Lt. Gen. William E. Odom
General Anthony Zinni
Lt. Gen. Claudia Kennedy
Gen. Wesley Clark
Adm. Stansfield Turner

Too bad Osama Bin Laden is still around to fax his talking points in.

Remind me now...its six years and he is still up to these same old tricks?

When did America's strategy change to "ignore him, maybe he'll go away?" And how did it become patriotic to support passing the buck to the next administration 14 months before they set foot in the White House?

Bin Laden has never had a better friend than the guy in the White House, and his dwindling band of supporters...hard to consider folks who really want the perpetrator of 9/11 dead or captured more pro-terrorist than the current crew of bumblers and enablers.

Don't forget Bill "family values" Owens (draft dodger, defeatist, surrender monkey, communist-sider, and recipient of a Bush family congresional page NAM draft deferment). Billie Mae fired a Colorado National Guard liutenent colonel, who had the audacity to support his troops, who were fighting and deployed in Afghanistan. This brave officer publicly complained his troops weren't getting their full active duty pay from Bush (UCMJ-felon, 40+ years AWOL-deserter), and this was causing severe financial hardships for their families. Billie Mae rewarded this warrior by FIRING him (Bush trained) and ruining this officer's career. I think Gen. Patton would have promoted him to "full" bird colonel.

jeffrey,You are definitely a viilage idiot. If the commanders would lie and say the surge wasn't working they would be able to get out of harms way.But instead these are honorable people telling the truth ,fighting for the American peoples safety.Unlike th e democraps fighting to control our money for there own private interest.

Keith: I cannot believe that you will reduce to print utterances that will excel the previous one in idiocy; however, you come though stabbing the reader with your lack of wit and total ignorance. How much longer will the moderator permit you to be lampooned by the rest of us? He, the moderator, or she, would be well advised to save you from the ridicule that you inspire and like a near dead animal put you to sleep.

Everything the Democrats think comes from the fact they are cowards. For instance, they think our troops want to leave Iraq because the Democrats could not imagine fighting for anything. The Democrats want to forget the fact that our troops volunteered to fight. All the Democrats can think of is that they are such cowards they would not lay thier life down for anything. That includes defending their wives and children from a criminal attack. That is why they push to disarm the US citizens. They would rather die than fight.

An American,Can you believe this idiot on the08:16 post. For 6 years Bin laden has been hiding in a cave or a hole like Saddam. In the 8 years of clinton he knew he was safe.He was out in the opened. The C.I.A. went to clinton 13 times to take him out.And these were at times that there would be no civilian casualties. But clinton forbid them to take him.Of coarse not being one of the village idiot liberals I knew all about Bin Laden and clinton incompetence. That's why less than 5 seconds after seeing the second tower getting hit by a jet my first words out of my mouth were"Bin Laden, that f--king clinton.I was sitting next to a girl, that had the tipical liberal responce.Da what.

awww An American, go ahead and give keith a little peck on the cheek.
I wonder, since you never have served in the military, is it because of sheer cowardness? Or I wonder, from your infantile babbling that perhaps the two of you are only 14 or 15 years old? Your ramblings dont sound like anything an educated adult would say.

Sam,

You have been reading the works of the Architypical Republican/'conservative" spokes-persons on this website.

Your assessment of their mental level is rather high; but then again, being the most representative spokes-persons the Republicans and "conservatives" have, they may have been stretching a bit to reach a point at which they would appear to be brighter than the rest.

On occasion, they are accompanied by 2 or 3 additonal writers - who sort of act as "straight men", and set up the real stars of the show here present. And these "second tier" folks will enter upon posting after posting of puffery concerning how "expert" they are on anything and everything of controversy; thus giving the two current posters the opportunity to lead the claque of applause for the fatuous flatulence provided. Stay with us, and you will learn to identify them as they come on stage.

I have likened the Architypical spokes-persons to a couple of yappy puppies, totally untrained - and most probably un-trainable - who are there yipping and yapping around the ankles of those who are at the forum, in hopes of getting some attention. Again, this is at the Archibypical level of Republican/"conservative" "thought" - to greatly abuse the word - but, then again, it does provide interludes of humor at times too.

All one has to remember is this. When these two post, you are hearing the TRUE Republican/"conservative" message.

OG thanks for the clarification. Tho I dont consider myself a Republican or a Democrat, the ramblings of folks like keith and 'an america' sure have me leaning more towards the dems than to be associated with those two. As Grouch Marx once said, " I refuse to join any club who standards are low enough to accept me" I feel the same towards any party with standards low enough to have keith and 'an american; in their membership.

old grouch,
You cant really believe that ridiculous nonsense you wrote, can you?Are you blind to the asinine posts by fellow lefties?
You have lost all credibility when you ignore the overwhelming number of raving dem posters.
I used to think you were only ignorant but now I'm starting to understand you're just plain stupid.
