The Webb proposal
Hats off to Sen. John Warner and the Republicans for blocking the troop measure sponsored by Democrat sponsor, James Webb! The Webb proposal was nothing less than a crafty attempt for antiwar lawmakers to castigate the Bush administration’s Iraq policy.
According to the Wall Street Journal, “the bill would micromanage the military and potentially force a withdrawal of troops from Iraq.” Now we hope that the President will square off with the Democrats to authorize the war-funding bill and update antiquated FISA statutes. The war in Iraq is really all about preserving our own national security, call it what you will.

Brian,
Thank god that Bush is in office, this way we can have continious war and dump billions more into this war for our freedom and national security. What could have happened if we didn't attack Iraq, within the next couple of hundred years they might have snuck over here and attacked us from all sides. Even if it breaks the USA of all money and resources by gosh Iraq will not take away our freedoms and security. What would happen if people who hate war get into office, can you imagine?

Posted by Repugnants are liars on September 29, 2007 02:47 PMIt was nice seeing a young couple embracing in front of Coors Field on the front page of Thursdays RMN. Showing the whole state just how proud we were of the accomplisments of this tough bunch of ball players.
Only thing is--the guy in the picture was wearing a Boston Red Sox t-shirt...
Nice work Mr. Editor...

Oh. So this is what the Iraq war is all about this week? Okay. Anyone want to take bets on the rationale offered fro the Iraq war next week?
Karl,GK,Draftdodge and Repug are right! Lets just let the Islamofacists do whatever they want. They really arent that bad of guys and after all it is America's fault they hate us anyway. Bush is the real enemy and orchestrated 911 just as an excuse to go after innocent Muslims and steal their oil. Who the hell do we think we are having the gall to supposedly defend ourselves and chase down religious freedom fighters all over the world? Sharia law in the U.S. would be an improvement compared to life under ChimpyMchitlerBushburton. Wake up and vote Dem in '08!
THE ENEMY OF MY ENEMY IS MY FRIEND
...crafty attempt for antiwar lawmakers to castigate the Bush administration’s Iraq policy...
Only problem with this statement is that Bush doesn't have an Iraq policy, unless you count holding out for another 16 months until another president takes office.
Remember when conservatives were known for effective foreign policy? If this letter is any indication, 'conservatives' are now best known for defending incompetence rather than defending our country's interests.
When will 'conservatives' realize how foolish it was to loyally cling to a bumbling administration at the expense of dragging down your entire ideology?

Just asking...
Posted by Liam on September 29, 2007 10:14 PMhow come all of you anti America anti war light in the loafers liberals are not going after your loser dems you elected? remember the ones who were going to stop this war once they took office?
and you want more dums elected to do nothing but tell you what you want to hear.
just think you will get free health care and we all know how anything that is free is
all of the illigals dropping a kid will get a 5k bond but you of the same orientation wont get it when you adopt but you can feel good anyway
who knows maybe kerry will follow with a law like frace has that you have to speak french to immigrate here as the french want it to be in france.
Is there some genetic defect among the wingnuts like the courageous anonymous poster of )6:38 who are so concerned about their own sexuality or something that allusions, usually pejorative, to sexual orientation must be interjected into discussions of every subject. I'm guessing it's the awful specter of airport men's room stalls that has them so skittish. This poor individual is probably so locked into the wingnut echo chamber that it can't hear the criticism democratic congress critters are taking for being unable to figure a way around republican obstructionism. You ought to forgo a trip or two to freerepublic or a minute or two of rush limpballs to visit Democratic Underground or Daily Kos to see those folks getting hided on a daily basis.I'm still wondering why the busheviks and their wingnut allies hate the troops so much they'd deny them time with their families away from the combat zone. There is always the possibility that proper intervals of Rest and Recuperation would cut down on American casualties and make the military that much more effective. But, I guess the steady dropping of more Young Americans into the meat grinder is more appealing to the keyboard warrior wingnut ethic.

Posted by Keith on September 30, 2007 09:29 AMVery persuasive argument, Keith. Do you really believe that your childish name-calling does anything but drag the discussion into the gutter? But, of course, that must be where you feel most at home.
Posted by Romulus on September 30, 2007 09:39 AMCasting pearls before swine is a waste of time.
Posted by Allen Campbell on September 30, 2007 09:50 AMHey Romulus...Keith couldn't discuss his way out of a paper bag.
Webb's proposal, while not perfect, does more to give our troops a reprieve that anything the Bush administration has done. It's absurd to think that some troops have deployed to Iraq 4 times now! Bush's own generals (Pace in particular) have said that our military is being severely overstretched and is in poor condition to protect us any further from another major event. Webb's amendment is meant to give the administration pause, before they run the military into the ground.
As for Keithiepoo...let's see if our ReTHUGliCON friend can come up with a thoughtful, reasoned discussion of the topic of the letter, instead of more childish, sophomore insults.
Posted by Keith and Hank sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G on September 30, 2007 10:24 AMOnce again read the Democrat postings on this page and you will see they are trying their best to give victory to the terrorists. You can come to no other conclusion!!! All normal people will understand!!
Posted by An American on September 30, 2007 10:31 AMremember the ones who were going to stop this war once they took office?
Yeah, they still need 9 more votes in the senate to pass a bill, and then watch Bush veto it, so they have to come up with seven moe votes to overide the veto.
Do your homework! It takes way more than a majority to pass legislation that would stop this insanity.
Posted by Stan Broyles on September 30, 2007 12:05 PMKeith, I know that you're a waste of skin but i'll say it anyway. Al Qaeda is going to try to kill us no matter where we are. The insanity is in not realizing it and continuing a stupid occupation that is designed to give Iraqi oil to multinational oil companies (and their supporting cast) straight out of the treasury of the taxpayers of this nation. The Republicans are doing a fine job of solving this problem by driving up the national dept by borrowing money from China that our Great Grandchildren will have to repay. 9.8 trillion dollars by 2010! We can't even pay the interest on that debt and you're defending it?
Posted by Stan Broyles on September 30, 2007 01:24 PMBetter to be broke and Islam free,
