Already paying for a 'better Denver'
Monday, October 29 at 12:01 AM

In recent weeks I have been inundated with flashy and expensive mailings
supporting increasing taxes for city bond issues. I was also called by the mayor's team touting benefits of the ballot measures for a "better Denver."
When I expressed opposition to the increased burden placed on middle-income
families and small businesses, the caller promptly hung up before I could
finish.
I would have liked to say I am already funding the museum, botanic gardens and
other facilities through cultural district assessments. Were these $100,000
contributions from these entities to the mayor's "better Denver" campaign from
my tax money? Enough is enough!

How about a better America...Charlie Rangle's $1 trillion tax hike to help reduce taxes (????), Hillary's $1 trillion (on its way to $2 trillion) tax hikes needed to pay for socialized medicine and some wacky retirement scheme, John Edward's $500 billion scheme to provide college for everyone, Hick's alphabet--from A to Z-- blizzard of tax hikes and Ritter's planned avalanche of tax hikes.

If you voted for change, that's exactly what you're going to get get--leaving you with mostly nickles and dimes after the democrats take it all away.

Hickentaxer loves his task forces on how to fleece more money from the taxpayer just as Tax Ritter loves his Blue Ribbon panles on how ot do the same.

I live in unincorporated Jeffco. Low taxes. I avoid Denver like the plague. Ridiculous sales tax

I left Denver a decade ago, as far as I'm concerned anyone who still lives within the boundaries of the City and County of Denver, has shit between their ears.

That proves it. Denver experienced significant improvement about a decade ago.

Funny, but I seem to remember a short time ago that passing C was going to solve all of our problems...Funny how that is forgotten.

Hick has a short memory,

No he doesn't. He remembers exactly how easy it was to lie the voters into passing C. He just hopes we are the ones who forget all the promises and the total lack of any real progress.

Glad I don't live in Denver and only did it when I was much younger and dumber. Just glad I DO live in Colorado where people actually have to give permission for tax increases AND where Ref C will guarantee that people remember what happens whenever government asks for money. Let them save money by deporting illegals, cutting waste and cleaning up their act. My memories date back to Mayor McNichols and include city workers bragging that they plowed the busy streets during rush hour to show the b@#$%ds who was in charge. How about a lot more contracting out and a whole lot less union crud?

Finally, OK I'm being really radical here, how about we actually use that parking space in the Webb building the way it was sold to us, for paid public parking. Until then I suggest to anyone with any sense at all that pouring money down the Denver budget rathole is stupid. The Democratic Convention is coming to town. The city wants a whole bunch of money to set up for that one. Let them eat campaign funds.

Hickenlooper needs to demonstrate that the tax increases will be used efficiently, appropriately, and for funding as promised, unlike Referendum C. Otherwise, the voters of Denver need to hand him a defeat.

Our representatives need to demonstrate fiscal responsibility. They bemoan the Gallagher Amendment and TABOR, but lose sight that Colorado's citizens implemented those laws because we can't trust our elected leaders to handle responsible spending.

If you don't live in Denver, why complain? Rightwingers whine all the time.
