Cat owners beware
Monday, October 1 at 12:01 AM

Today I had a sad, traumatic job — cleaning up the remains of a neighborhood cat that had been killed and eaten by a fox (or coyote?) on my east Denver lawn. With the destruction of habitat such as at Lowry and Stapleton, wild animals have migrated into nearby residential areas where food is scarce. Outdoor cat owners be aware: Your pets are not safe from these hungry predators, day or night!

Where can I get some of these coyotes or foxes. I am tired of the nieghbors cats hanging around my house.

Good finally something will take care of cats roaming free around neighborhoods!

Ignorant ,stupid cat owners think it's okay for their cats to use other peoples' property as their litter box.

We had a fox in our neighborhood and I haven't seen any cats walking around since.

Gotta love the circle of life.

Now if we could get a animal to eat all the cat owners,I'd be even happier!

I'm a cat owner and if you lived next door to me, you wouldn't even know that I had cats. Why? Because my cats don't go outside! I know that my decision to have pets is mine and mine alone. My cats have never left my house and that is the way it should be. They are not exposed to disease or predators. I'm tired of people lumping cat owners together and acting like we should be shunned. Many cat owners have indoor cats and you will never see them. Now if we could do something about all the dog owners that think I want to hear their dog barking at 5 a.m. or pick up their droppings off my front lawn!

The foxes have grandfather rights to the land the developers built your house on. If your little fluffy, no doubt cutely named, cat runs afoul of a fox , it is your fault. If you know there are foxes about and you let your cat roam free the result is predictable is it not? Or are you saying your cat has the right to exist in what is an ancient enviroment for foxes therfor, the foxes must be eliminated to accomodate your cats? Either way, you're wrong.

Cats that are allowed to roam, are very destructive. Be responsible and keep your cat indoors. Or feed the coyotes and foxes. Nature has its way to take care of irresponsible behavior. Now, how do I get the scratches off my car hood.

T. You read my thoughts. I have a vintage 911 carrera that I normally garage but, when I drive it, sometimes I park it in the back yard to hand wash it, It is then when the stray cats find it necessary to use it as a couch to lay upon like some queen or king. The problem is how they get there. So far no scratchs, but loads of muddy foot prints, insidiously, just after I wash it. I am entertaining the use of arms to deal with them as the neigbors who own the cats are not reponding to my complaints. If you see a news article about how I've been cruel to animals you'll know the rest of the story.

Allen Campell
I am entertaining the use of arms to deal with my neighbors who are not responding to my complaints. They are allowing their vermin to come to my home and not just dirty the property but kill some of the native born species. Since you have already seen the news articles, you know the rest of the story and I am happy to see a kindred spirit.

Allen, does it make you feel less stupid if you blame the cats for the dirty paw prints on your 911 Carrera?

Posted by Sensible on October 1, 2007 12:53 PM

Those scratches on you car hood couldn't possibly have come from the racoons, foxes, and other "natural" creatures, could they??? And as far as the foxes being here first...you are right, so go let your children be attacked and eaten! That arguement only goes so far. I feel sorry for all the cats whose owners don't care enough about them to keep them inside, but don't blame the cats, blame the owners!

Cats are free. If a rogue coon or fox dines on your feline just get another one. Cats are happiest when free to roam, sleep on Ferraris and defecate in the enemy’s perimeter. The price of this freedom is not cheap. Many have given their lives. Many more are willing to tread courageously in the steps of their comrades. Reinforcements are available at your neighborhood grocery store billboard, community animal shelter or your sister in-law’s house.

You do know that disliking cats is a sign of insecurity, right?

P.S. My cats are indoor cats.

Those horrible cat owners! Thet're responsible for thw iraq war!

Losers!

Hey, I have cats, more than the legal limit and no one knows about them except the burglar they undressed a few years ago.

Cats might not be responsible for the war but if they were in charge of it they wouldn't send the mice a warning note before going after them nor would they try to convince the other cats to become vegans.

To keep cats off of your car you could sprinkle a combination of catnip, potting soil, peat moss and manure on a patch of empty ground or a cat owners garden, (the only way you know is if they let them roam)
To get rid of the mice and snakes that were a problem here, I did this to two large areas on a bare hill by our house. All summer long it was the kitty ballroom. Haven't seen a snake since the first cats discovered the plants.
If you have a really difficult neighbor you can make catnip tea and apply it to the right places to let him have all the cats he can handle. Please, no underwear drawers. My husband thought he'd grown ears and a fuzzy tail.

Cats are like any other animal. They need to be taken care of not left out to roam.

They will also learn to obey commands. I have two half bobcats that sit, stay and walk on leashes. They also removed one person from the ranks of cat burglar/prowler. Well they removed his clothes and a good portion of his skin. Never discovered who he was but within a week of finding the bloody rags we had kids asking to see our attack cats.

If you need catnip seeds see me at the Share Warehouse sale on Saturday 10/6. I volunteer. Address is 9360 Federal Blvd. 9AM to noon. They have a list of all their items, but the door buster is steaks (1/2lb) for 1.95 each.

I used to get tuna for the big kitties there. 4 cans/1.00

Allen, if you are washing your car and "accidentally" wash a cat they usually stay away from that car. Let me know.

If you choose to leave your cats outside , they are fairgame for all to taste. Cat tacos anyone ?

Posted by parrotdude on October 1, 2007 11:13 PM

Tacos?

Nah. Fajitas.!

Wow! Lotta folks don't like kitties.

I too was having a problem with neihbor cats scratching up my vehicles climbed onto them. However, I was able to get the neighbors to keep their cats inside by simply letting them know that I was going to set have a heart traps. Any cat caught on my property was going to be relocated far away. VIOLA! No more free roaming cats and I did not have to trap a single one.

The same cat owners that feel that their cats should be allowed to roam free, would be incensed if dog owners did the same. If you have a cat, or dog, the cats should be kept inside and the dogs should be fenced in. If everyone was responsible with their pets, no one sane would get upset about them.

Yep. We have extra cats because my husband adopted a stray that was pregnant. We spay/neuter the strays, teach them to behave and live with people and other cats then give them to good homes in exchange for a donation equal to the spay fee to Planned Pethood. No one gets a free cat but the benefit is to a place that does low cost spay/neuter and shots. We get rid of as many female cats as possible in a humane manner. We now have most of the cats ready to go and will begin adopting them out as soon as we have time to check the people who get them.

We prefer to do things the simple way. Government interference in how many cats we have is to protect the cats from "collectors." I only intend to collect the two big ones and the tiny one that is in poor health since most could not give her the care she needs. She is a full grown 3 year old cat and is the same size as a kitten about 8 weeks old. We often have to hand feed her and watch to make sure she doesn't fall in the tub or sink. Never knew there was a klutz breed.

Yes, I am dis-obeying some regulations but since our cats are indoor cats no one else is responsible for them until they are able to be good kitties. Most strays spend the first six months in my bedroom under and on my bed. That's where I spend most of my time these days.
