Hillary Clinton’s speech
So, if you want to return to a system in which all power to make decisions resides in a central government, and you are simply a servant of a collective, rather than the master of your own fate, vote for Hillary. But, please don’t insult me by claiming that she has created some sort of new paradigm. She is as reactionary as any of the Caesars or Czars of history.

BILLARY, Bill Gates, Ritter and Romanoff have been indoctrinated by NY Gov. Spitzer. BILLARY, Gates, and Ritter's favorite illegals are criminal Hindu-Indians. Romanoff's is criminal illegal Mexicans. Blacks are getting an illegals double-whammy.
Posted by draftdodgingisntafamilyvalue on October 31, 2007 02:17 PMWhat's funny is that you believe that you are "master of your domain" at the present time. Ummm, no.
She is just suggesting different puppet-masters.
Individual liberties went the way of the dinosaur the day that the Patriot Act was ramrodded through the Republican Congress.
Posted by Tree Hugger on October 31, 2007 03:41 PMI would be more interested in hearing about the "how's and who's" than I am about the "what's and why's." Anyone can make a claim that they are going to "do" something. As the sayings go, the devil is in the details and the proof in the pudding.
Don't give me a sound bite of what the "Government is going to do for me," but instead detail HOW a new program will work, HOW it will be funded, HOW it is different from current status quo, and WHO will have oversight, WHO will be responsible for results, and HOW those results will be measured. Maybe instead of the "Government doing something for me," the "Government should get out of my way" so that I can do something for myself.
The great and progressive John F Kennedy once stated in his inaugural address in 1961 (at least I heard it on recordings), "...ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.
My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man."
Maybe more appropriate now more than ever, we should heed these words. Not to have Government responsible for us, but for us to retake responsibility of our Government.
You think Bush is bad??? If Billary gets in office your going to become a socialistic robot of the government.
If you get sick don't plan on having much, if any medical care. Just die standing in line to see a doctor. If you have a bad disease just go home and die the government does not want to pay for you to get well.
You think it's bad now with Illegals?
Billary will not only welcome them with open arms she will stand at the border and shake hands with each and everyone that walks through.
The gnomes of Europe are salivating at the thought of Billary becoming president. They know she agrees with world globalization and a one world government. You think you have lost your freedom with Bush (self proclaimed king!) Just get old Billary in office! You aint seen nothin yet!!!
"Hillary Clinton gave a speech in Colorado in which she outlined some proposals for her administration. Included were such ideas as eliminating some of BIG OIL’s profits so that the government could use the money to employ more people in areas it felt were more important"
You mean you oppose ending corporate welfare for big oil? You're not an oil industry lobbyist are you Amby?
"enrolling everybody in governmental health care"
You mean she's in favor of adopting some best practices of countries that are doing healthcare better and cheaper than we are??
The horror!!!!
"Now suppose the 2008 general election were being held today and you had to choose between Rudy Giuliani as the Republican candidate and Hillary Clinton as the Democratic candidate -- who would you vote for?"
Rudy Giuliani (R) 43%
Hillary Clinton (D) 51%
Unsure 6%
Pew Research Center for the People & the Press survey conducted by Princeton Survey Research Associates International. Oct. 17-23, 2007. N=1,607 registered voters nationwide.
"I know it is a long way off, but thinking about the election in 2008, if the election for president were held today, for whom would you vote: the Democratic candidate or the Republican candidate?"
Republican Candidate 40%
Democratic Candidate 53%
Unsure 7%
CBS News Poll. Oct. 12-16, 2007. N=1,143 registered voters nationwide. MoE ± 3.
Now these numbers have been pretty consistent for months...but that's not what should worry our resident right wingers.
The fact that only 6% are Usure as for whom they'd vote is a problem for the folks who depend on swift boating to win hearts and minds instead of policy stances.
6% of the population ain't gonna win the race.
That's gotta hurt.

Minor correction, The flying saucer viewer was a democratic candidate. Dennis Kucinic - who knows maybe he did see it?
Otherwise you are pretty much spot on, we are not governed by the people for the people we are governed by an elitist group of pompous asses with an agenda that only involves their own bottom line and getting re-elected..
and her is how hillbillary wants to run the country and begin socialism on a fast tract
from the dog and pony show they called a debate she said the following
Russert then turned it over to Hillary, who said, "Well, I think we were making progress in the 1990s and I am very proud of the progress we were making until, unfortunately, the Supreme Court handed the presidency to George Bush, and we have been living with the consequences ever since. I think it is time for us to step up and say we are going to change the way Washington works. I've laid out very specific plans about how to do that. I'm going to take $10 billion away from a lot of these industries, starting with money from the HMOs that are getting too much out of Medicare, starting with the no-bid contracts for Halliburton; starting with the defense industry that needs to be pared down and reined in. I've been very clear about that. And I intend to implement that."
and hmo's were teddy's idea years ago.
Posted by on November 1, 2007 06:52 AMAllen, the mother of all tax hikes is coming irregardless of whether a dem or rep wins in 2008. You have the Bush administration to thank for that.
Posted by leftside on November 1, 2007 08:05 AMJust wait until Bush sets the precedent for setting policy and passing legislation without Congress ( his latest promise). Once that is in place, we will have a monarchy run by the next king (or queen) that happens to get elected. Impeachment is necessary now or ellse the next 'president' will be unstoppable in whatever he ( or she ) wants to do.

And John...why are you in favor of corporate welfare for oil companies making record profits?
Posted by jay on November 1, 2007 04:34 PMjay,
What you call "corporate welfare" is simply tax breaks to encourage oil companies to drill for more oil. It doesn't bother me. I like being able to fill up my big fat SUV at virtually any street corner in this country.
One thing that is often not mentioned by those who shout about the oil industry's "record profits" is the governments record tax receipts. Oil companies are taxed on their revenues. The more they make, the more in taxes they pay.
I find it amazing that otherwise intelligent folks don't make the connection between the fiscal irresponsibility of the last 7 years with an inevitable cut in spending.

Sad really...
Posted by Charles B. on November 1, 2007 08:53 PMWhat's sad, Charles, is that you think a cheap, slanderous, ad hominem attack is enough to counter my assertions.

Shall we subsidize tobacco companies in the effort to grow more potent tobacco?
Shall we subsidize the auto industry in order to build more fuel efficient cars?
Corporate welfare is corporate welfare...no matter how you try to spin it, John.
But you certainly get the Rushian Footsoldier Award for the Week for giving it a good try.

"Shall we subsidize tobacco companies in the effort to grow more potent tobacco?"
That depends on if you want more tobacco.
"Shall we subsidize the auto industry in order to build more fuel efficient cars?"
That depends on if you want more fuel efficient cars. Actually, we have tax breaks and other benefits such as access to HOV lanes for hybrids.
You are confusing subsidies with tax breaks. A tax break is not a subsidy.
If you want more of something, tax it less; if you want less of something, tax it more. But, you already understand this concept. That is why you most likely support a carbon tax.
Posted by John II on November 1, 2007 10:34 PMSpin corporate welfare howevery you'd like, John...the fact of the matter is that we are providing oil companies with corporate welfare while they are making record profits.
The really mind boggling thing is why you supprt such an action.
Posted by jay on November 1, 2007 11:15 PMjay,
Do you at least acknowledge that along with those record profits, we are raking in record tax revenues from the oil industry?
Posted by John II on November 2, 2007 08:11 AMI'll acknowledge that we should be making MORE tax profits from these folks...not less by giving them corporate welfare.
Posted by jay on November 2, 2007 09:34 AMWell, that is still up for debate. We give the tax breaks on new drilling endeavors. If they didn't embark on these new drilling endeavors, they may not have made as much profit.
But, at least you that along with record profits, we have record tax revenues. So, it's a good thing when the oil industry increases profits.
