Let’s model U.S. immigration laws on Mexico’s
I got a huge laugh over “Deporting the American dream,” the Oct. 25 letter by Joanne Hendricks. She wrote, “There are so many people ... who ignorantly group all illegal residents into one category: criminal.” Well, at the risk of sounding ignorant, if I do something “illegal” I’m a “criminal,” aren’t I? All the people who are in this country illegally are criminals. No amount of doubletalk or “political correctness” will change that.
Perhaps a perspective will enlighten the hand-wringers. No foreigners in Mexico can get any kind of public assistance. Foreigners in Mexico cannot wave the flag of another nation or make negative comments about the Mexican government. Doing these things will get you deported immediately. If you enter Mexico illegally, you are a felon and will go to prison. A real prison. I think the Congress of the United States should study the immigration laws of Mexico and use them to rewrite our own, measure for measure.

Neil, you should preach to Benedict Arnolds like Ken Salazar, NY GOv. Spitzer, Romanoff, Fitz-Gerald, Groff, T. Carroll, Congressional Black Caucus, Rev. Al Sharpton, NAACP, etc., and other traitors.
Posted by 40acresandmymuleandNAMvetbennies on October 31, 2007 11:13 AMNeil I agree to an extent. However if the Feds would just enforce the current laws thats a start.

I think this is a matter of connotation. If you drive faster than the speed limit, you're doing something illegal. But most people wouldn't call you a "criminal."
Also, when people speak of "crime-ridden" neighborhoods, they do not think of people speeding, peacefully smoking a joint in their own home, or paying a someone at less than the minimum wage.

HOW THE HELL IS THIS FAIR? HUH?
EXPLAIN THIS TO US MEXICO!!
EXPLAIN YOUR DISGUSTING HYPOCRISY!!
Posted by truthy on October 31, 2007 12:02 PMBrian T. Schwartz ....You over-simplify a very emotional and complicated problem within America's borders. I blog everywhere in the U.S. and the majority of American people I hear from want the illegal Mexican nationals to go home period!!!!
As a matter of fact they are sick and tired of ALL illegals sneaking into this country and, that includes Africa,Canada, Middle Easterners, Chinese, etc, etc!!
Because the main influx of illegals to the U.S. come from the dishonorable country of Mexico...I wholeheartedly agree with N. Burroughs!
The U.S. should most definately, adopt Mexico's immigration laws and enforce them immediately!!!!
Posted by A on October 31, 2007 12:26 PMI think Brian Schwartz is a bleeding heart liberal who likes comparing apples to oranges. He is also an enabler to those who would break our immigration laws and the rest of the laws they break like idenity theft and the list goes on. Brian is that comparable to speeding or maybe jaywalking. I know aiding and abetting a criminal is a crime and then we can call Brian a "Criminal".
Posted by Just an Observation on October 31, 2007 12:31 PMEventually we will give them all amnesty in some form or another. there is NOTHING that can be done about it. NOTHING!
the politicians do not care about your concerns on the matter, they only care about new votes and appeasment!
Posted by Fresh on October 31, 2007 12:41 PMRe. comments by the anonymous "A" and "Just an Observation" Woah, hold on!
My comment simply addressed the letter-writer's question: " Well, at the risk of sounding ignorant, if I do something 'illegal' I’m a 'criminal,' aren’t I?"
I did not state my position on illegal immigration. It's not a subject that I have given much thought. Not that it's not important, I have been concentrating on health care policy lately.
I submitted the only free-market proposal to the 208 Commission on Health Care Reform. A "bleeding heart liberal" wouldn't do that. You can read about the proposal, and my articles and letters to the editor on free-market health care at WhoOwnsYou.org and wakalix.com.
If I were to read up on immigration, I'd look at the reports by the Cato Institute, a premier free-market think tank. I have donated money to this organization, as I have the Ayn Rand Institute. "Bleeding heart liberals" don't do that, either.
I wonder if the commenter who signs his post "Just an Observation" would be more careful if he or she could not post anonymously.

Welcome to the realm of the ignorant. Don't let it bother you too much. The ignorance of partisanship abounds in this forum.
Thank you for your contribution to this forum, as well as being a part of the commission to study health care reform here in Colorado.
Posted by Dan2 on October 31, 2007 01:05 PMOne of the problems with illegal immigration is that these immigrants not only demand equal rights to citizens, in one instance in particular, they receive better treatment. Driving without insurance. In Ft. Collins recently I witnessed firsthand the horrible treatment that citizens must go through versus the illegals that get off with nothing. A friend of mine had accidentally let her insurance lapse. She had held insurance for decades, but this one month just couldn't make the bill, unfortunately, it was the month that the policy renewed, so she was without. She was pulled over for a defective headlight. When she went to her court date, she had renewed her insurance and had a letter from her insurance agent that she had been covered for years and that this lapse had now been taken care of. She was fined over $500 and received a 4 point ticket on her license. Wonder what that will do to her insurance rates??? For those that didn't have insurance, couldn't speak English, and couldn't provide proof of insurance now (I'm not sure, but I'm sure a good portion of them were illegal), they had an "express" line where they paid $30 and went on their way. Someone at the court said that since they couldn't really control it, they figured this was the best way. Are you kidding me???!!!! The citizens of this country are being fined and punished and the illegals are being slapped on the wrist and sent on their merry way. This has to stop!
Posted by idk on October 31, 2007 01:26 PMEmployers and landlords should be held accountable. Illegal Mexicans come here and learn one English word " gimme.' They are subsidized by the dumb American and committ crimes against us and very rarely are they prosecuted. And they wonder why we cannot stand Mexicans.
We are such a civilized nation - we are stupid. Every politician should be voted out of office since they will not enforce our laws!
Brian Schawartz
Dan2 should know about ignorant partisanship since he's always one of the main players on these silly forums. He's one of those jocking for the crown of the king on this realm.
Unlike Dan2, no need to thank me for my contribution.
Anonymous 2:12 if these forums are so silly why do you participate in them??
Posted by on October 31, 2007 05:11 PMNeil's letter is well taken; previous letters express the same sentiment: I ask, what law did counsel break to earn the title of criminal lawyer? Just a jest: Don't flog me.

Posted by Richard Grimes, Deicide r22037@yahoo Free cassatte of blasphemous songs with me on piano on November 1, 2007 03:30 PMThe US is, as far as I know, the ONLY country in which illegals of any type can get federal aid. Does this say anything?
Maybe US citizens should consider taking up citizenship in a foreign country and revoking their rights as US citizens, then coming back over illegally just so we can share in some of the benefits.
Posted by Harry on November 1, 2007 05:49 PMRep. Bob Gardner, a Colorado Springs Republican said "It is not aimed at law-abiding illegal immigrants." On the bill to deny repeat DUI and serious felonies bail.
LAW-ABIDING ILLEGALS ?? There's a new twist!
Mr. Burroughs' letter is right on the mark. Enforce Mexico's immigration law here exactly as they do.
HARD FOR THE BLEEDING HEARTS TO SCREAM RACISM THEN, EH?
Posted by RickyLee on November 1, 2007 06:46 PMIf you really want a country with Mexico's immigration laws, perhaps you should go to Mexico. There's no chance at all of the United States adopting them.
