MoveOn.org’s ad
On Thursday, the Senate voted on and passed an amendment to the Defense Appropriations Bill to “strongly repudiate” the ad MoveOn ran in the New York Times to question General Petraeus’ recent testimony, calling it a personal attack, which is absolutely ridiculous. What is it that compels them to step out of their line of duty to rush to the General’s defense and wag a disapproving finger at anyone who dares to question him? The ad is fact-based. It takes a much-needed critical look at Petraeus’ statements and points out that they contradict recent independent reports, citing reporting in the mainstream media that reveals the Pentagon’s flawed methods of deriving its information. Is the Senate’s time this cheap, and more importantly, are our lawmakers this petty? Both Senators Allard and Salazar are among those who voted for this junk rather than focusing on the real issue at hand. Shame on them.

The ad didn't contain any facts. It was an unsubstatiated accusation.
The facts the letter writer refers to (the conflicting reports) were compiled as much as 8 weeks prior to the Patraeus testimony due to time deadlines. Patraeus was reporting with the latest possible information.
Posted by KW on October 2, 2007 02:20 PMWhat a waste of freakin time, the Senate votes on an AD, this is a great example of what gets done on our tax dollar...
Posted by Karl Cheney on October 2, 2007 02:24 PMI thought the ad was sophomoric but the Senate repudiating it was grandstanding waste of time. Are they now going to spend time repudiating Flush Limbaugh for calling some soldiers "phony"? With the elections coming are they going to spend time repudiating every single swift boat style ad? This could turn into a full-time gig and it is a waste of time.

Why yes. Yes they are. No wonder Congress has an 11% approval polling.

GW... though I did not agree with Rush's opinion, the rhetoric surrounding it is even worse. I can't believe Congress is wasting time out there condemning ads and talk show hosts. We need these people to do REAL work, but apparently they're still all on vacation.
Believe it Dan.
And look whose name is on this.

The latest possible information shows the same thing that the information 2 weeks, 2 months, and 2 years before that showed.
There is no military solution, and the political solution is getting worse, not better.
It was a silly ad in a dying media. Your only interest in it is as a wedge issue. Pontificating on it gets us no closer to a solution for fixing Bush's monumental f*ckups.
Posted by Charles B. on October 2, 2007 09:23 PMPatraeus works for Bush. When you don't want to lose your job you do and say what the boss wants to hear.
Posted by Ivanhoe on October 3, 2007 12:00 AMMoveOn.org deals with more facts than Druggie Limbaugh ever did. Druggie doesnt bother with facts he jsut yells louder to make his point. You wnat to support the troops? Boycott the sponsors of Flush Limpballs yell radio show.
Posted by antiKeith on October 3, 2007 06:52 AMI don't listen to Rush Limbaugh, however again we have mediamatters and other smear websites taking one comment ,( phoney soldier ) out of context.
I have read the transcripts and what happened was someone called in to talk about this guy Jesse ?, running around telling people he was an Iraqi veteran, trying to get veteren benefits, saying he was a ranger and was awarded a Purlpe Heart.
This guy spent 44 days in Army bootcamp ,until he was booted out.
That is when Rush called" HIM" Jesse ? .A PHONEY SOLDIER! No one else.
Get your facts straight before you read mediamatters,moveon.org and thedailykos.
Oh, and how many car bombs in Iraq have you heard about on the news?
How many Deaths of civilians or military since General Patraeus testified on Capitol Hill?
Not many. The surge is working and the Democrats are angry to be shown as the liars they are. The Democrats are grasping at straws to find a controversy to amuse the American people away from the fact that the surge is working.
So they sic their pimps on people who do have positive things to say about the war.
I'm talking about the whores of the Democratic Party and their PIMPS , moveon, mediamatters and the dailykos.
This guy Jesse was a phoney soldier and there are probably more like his scummy
ass out there. Those are the people Rush was refering to, not anyone in our military.
So this Jesse Rush refers to him as THEM and not as a phoney soldier but as Phoney SoldierS. And now he is smearing more vets and soldiers, calling them dupes, if the come outr against him. Limbaugh is a loudmouth clown, a drug addicted hate monger who is now lying his ass off, backtracking, cutting tape and transcripts to try and save his ass. He has free speech, Iwill grant him that... but how about those who SAY they support the soldiers proving it by boycotting Rush, boyciotting his sponsors and demanding that he be pulled off Armed Forces Network before he insults the troops even further. Amazing how a draft dodger like Rush can attack the brave men and women who ACTUALLY serve this country. Rush is a PHONEY AMERICAN!
Posted by PissOn Rush.org on October 3, 2007 08:30 AMSure get irate if someone says something against a general who is acting like Bush's ventriloquist dummy. How about caring as much about the soldiers doing the fightng?
Posted by anti-keith@yahoo.com on October 3, 2007 08:41 AMmediamatters takes things out of context all the time. Even their pres admits he's written many things that he knew were untrue.
The funny pasrt is there's still people who put any stock in anything mediamatters says anymore.
Posted by KW on October 3, 2007 11:06 AMAnon 12:36 - You are correct, in a way...
While I haven't seen anyone quoting Coulter on these threads, there are several people quoting the mediamatters version of Rush, Greenspan and Patraeus.
Is that what you're refering to?
Posted by KW on October 3, 2007 12:45 PMFolks that would quote Coulter don’t need to because they can think for themselves, unlike the folks that quote Media Matters.
Posted by GW on October 3, 2007 02:55 PMThe last time I saw Coulter she was on her news with Keith, under Bush's desk, heads bobbing a mile a minute
Posted by ManCoulter on October 4, 2007 07:14 AMThank God for Media Matters.
