Surprised that Sen. Salazar signed Reid letter
Tuesday, October 30 at 11:16 AM

John W Donaldson of Centennial writes:

In todays paper there is an article by Stephanie Strom, New York Times, “Limbaugh puts money where his mouth is.” supposedly about a letter of complaint to Limbaugh signed by 41 Democratic Senators. The letter was sent to Mr. Mark P Mays, CEO of Clear Channel Communications Inc. in a blatant attempt by The Majority Leader in the Senate to get Limbaugh pulled off of the air. The threat is obvious The Federal Government controls the Licenses of all Radio Stations .
This was the first time that an attempt had been made by the Senate to deny a citizen of this country the right to earn a living.
What is even more surprising is that this letter was signed by Senator Ken Salazar. I do not know what Mr Mays response was but an appropriate one would have been “Nuts”
As a result of the auction on Ebay and Mr. Limbaugh matching the winning bid, $4,200,200 will be going to the Marine Corps and -Law Enforcement Foundation. It seems that at this time Harry Reid and all of the Senators who signed the letter should step up, issue a public apology to Mr Limbaugh and make their own contributions to the Foundation. Dividing the sum raised by 41 the individual contribution would be $100,000. How about it, Senator Salazar.?

This letter has not been edited.

READER COMMENTS

A good point! The letter is nothing less than a declaration of incompetence. Sen. Salazar and the other 40 senators should be ashamed. Yet, the Democrats will stop at nothing to advance their self-serving political agenda, even in time of war.

"in a blatant attempt by The Majority Leader in the Senate to get Limbaugh pulled off of the air."

I don't see it that way. Here is what the letter said, as far as calling for any action: "We call on you to publicly repudiate these comments that call into question their service and sacrifice and to ask Mr. Limbaugh to apologize for his comments."

I don't really see that as trying to get him fired. But, I'm curious if you felt the same kind of outrage with the Petreaus Moveon.org ad, in which our Congress passed a resolution condemning an advertisement? Was that not also "an attempt ... by the Senate to deny a citizen of this country the right to earn a living."? Or is it different because it's not Rush Limbaugh?

well jeffy the lock step progressive liberal left socialist dumowingnut there is a big difference in the two examples you give. One is that, wiether you like him or not, Rush is an individual and is protected by the constution on his free speech. the second one is an orginazation who before the General even said one word published their slander. you will be happey to know that the 41 senators who signed the letter sent to clear channel did not agree with the resolution on moveon.org.
I know this will be very hard for any of you progressives to uderstand but there is a big difference between an individual and an orginazation.
I am sure I have been talking to a block wall but who knows it might sink in to one of your minds

The Dems letter was the wrong approach, and a waste. Congress spending time and money condemning moveon.org over the Gen. Patreus ad was also a waste. This is nothing more than a piece of free publicity to Limbaugh. I would be really impressed if he donated $ to some group that was dedicated to helping Vietnam vets recover from the physical and emotional scars of that war as well, especially since he was able to get out of serving in that conflict. As a matter of fact, lets visit this issue. Lets see how well all of you support your military.

Which group of people have done more for our nation in terms of serving in a war zone?

Group A- Chuck Hagel (infantry), John Kerry (Brown Water Navy), Bob Kerrey (SEAL), Murtha (USMC), John McCain (Navy-POW), Al Gore (yes he served in Nam as a war reporter while in the Army- you still get shot at)

Group B- Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh (boil on butt), Ann Coulter, Dick Cheney (5 deferments), George W. Bush (ANG- need $ at the time to get into ANG)

Staright up answer. No disqualifications, "line item voting", etc. Which group has done more for the US, A or B? Let's see how many of you truly support the ALL of the military and our veterans, not just the ones that line up with your political affiliation.

So, people in organizations aren't allowed to have an opinion, correct? Is that what you're saying? Does that apply to right-leaning organizations as well, or just the lefties?

I would really take Rush seriously if he would go on the air, and thank every member of Congress, by name, whether Republican or Democrat (even Kerry, Webb and Murtha), for their service in Vietnam. That would show me he really supports every former or current member of the military. He could also take time and publically thank, by name, those that have made the ultimate in Afghanistan or Iraq. I would really be impressed by that as well.

ultimate sacrifice

That's weird. A letter from Congress is an attempt to deny a drug addled blow-hard the right to earn a living?

The Bush administration has been denying citizens of this country the right to earn a living for years. It's called "stop loss".

Don't you understand? The Republicans are always right and everyone else is always wrong, even when the actions are exactly the same.

The Republicans are always more tolerant, smarted, give more to charity, care more about America, God's favorites, and are just all around better people.

Everybody else should either assimilation or shut up.

Bear,
You are a party hack - because it quite the same from BOTH sides not just the right.
Each person feels they are right regardless of which party they belong and it is statements like yours that just groups you into one or the other and you can obviously see what it does to this country.

No, it seems that the right is more willing to support their favorite TV personalities than anyone else. Have you heard anyone defending Colmes? I don't.

But when the conversation is about O'Reilly or Rush, then the fur flies. It's very much an 'us vs. them' mentality.

I have defended Combs on serveral ocassions and it was for his ability to tell one of his very liberal guest that it was wrong to come on his show and attack his partner. Mr Combs is a man, more than the rest of you blow hards will ever be.

snarky

Self serving politcal agenda hmmmmm would that include the republicans condeming the MoveOn.org in the times? All that ad asked was Will Petraeus Betray Us? And considerring the White House wrote his report I question if he didnt betray the american people and the soldiers taht continue to die in Iraq.

Posted by on October 31, 2007 07:10 AM

Those people about which I speak actually served in combat. The people you are defending are all talk, and nothing else. Is that what it takes to be a true patriot? Talk? I notice you didn't have a rebuke for my idea for Rush to acknowledge Vietnam Vets in Congress or those that have made the ultimate sacrifice in the current war. Don't you think its a good idea?

BTW-How am I a sheep? Have I ever said I was against the war? I am a moderate, which means I think for myself, and vote the way I want, not some party line BS, or vote the way Rush tells me to. You're more of a sheep than I am. You follow everything GOP, where as I am smart enough to know that neither party is 100% right or wrong.

Reid did no such thing. Get your facts straight.

Why do conservatives lie and spin so much?

If you support Limbaugh then you do not support the soldiers. He is a big fat ass that had a boil on his butt and avoided service. For him to refer to soldiers as "phony" is disgusting. For brain farts like Brian Stuckey to support him in his betrayal is cowardice.

Have you seen the little piggies? They call them republicans, with good reason.
They wallow in muck and don't clean up after themselves.

BO,

I was recently asked a question on another blog which I was more than happy to answer. I was hoping you might answer that same question. In your last posting you stated, (You follow everything GOP, where as I am smart enough to know that neither party is 100% right or wrong.) and I was wondering if you could give everyone a few examples of what the Dems are wrong about and what the Reps are right about?

Posted by jgd777 on October 31, 2007 10:27 AM

Letter writer John Donaldson is 100% right. The letter Democrat Senator Salazar and his friends sent to Rush Limbaugh's boss was to close down free speech on talk radio. The VP of the NRA is is also saying that the goal of the Democrats is to take away free speech on talk radio. How can we trust a party that does not even believe in the First or Second Amendment? The only rights they believe in are the ones that protect the terrorists. This attack on free speech should send a strong message to the American people about the Democrat party.

It's OK for Congress to spend time censuring Moveon.org but not Rush Limbaugh

Posted by Goober logic on October 31, 2007 12:26 PM

Salazar and Reid are conjoined twins! Salazars head is stuck right between Reids legs!!

"This was the first time that an attempt had been made by the Senate to deny a citizen of this country the right to earn a living."

Right to earn a living? How about drug dealers, prostitutes, pimps? They're trying to make a living.

jgd777-
Illegial immigration-side w/ most of the GOP (except Bush). We have the right, as a sovereign nation, to control who or what comes across our borders. Most Dems are too soft (in my opinion) on that issue.

Dropping everything and pulling out of Iraq right away. I was for invading Iraq. However, I don't have to agree with the way Bush and Cheney have handled everything. That's the problem with too many in the GOP- everything has to be black and white in their world. Nor do I think it wuld be a good idea to pick up and leave.

Abortion- I believe in legalized abortion. However, I do feel that partial birth abortions should be banned.

Taxes- As a middle class American, I don't really notice the difference between having a Dem or GOP president.

I may seem more left of center. I just get sick of the attitude that many on the right have, the "criticism of Bush=unAmericanism". What a crock. Plenty of people were after Clinton's hide while we were dealing with the Kosovo affair, and that's their right. Why was it OK to criticize the president during an armed conflict then but not now?

In the state in which I live, in 2006, we had elections for governor, 1 US senate seat, and my H of R dist. I voted GOP for 2 of those 3 positions. Not too many liberals would do that, now would they?

BTW-Rush will probably vote for Hillary in 2008; a Dem president makes better cannon fodder.

Posted by BO on October 31, 2007 10:46 PM

Goober logic shows just how stupid Democrats are.The issue is that the Democrats "lied" to take Rush's freedom of speech away. The Republicans took a "quote" from MoveOn.org saying a respected General "betrayed us".If Goober can't understand the difference then he truly is a "Goober Democrat".

Posted by An American on November 1, 2007 10:02 AM

Republican hypocrisy shows no bounds.

I can't believe ANYONE would defend someone who disparaged any current or former member (for however long) of our armed forces for supporting a politically inconvenient (for Republicans that is) and MAJORITY political sentiment.

Posted by jay on November 1, 2007 11:51 AM

Maybe Jay does not understand that the "soldier" that Rush "disparged" lied about his service.Oh ,I forgot Jay and other Democrats do not care if someone is lying because there would be no Democrat party if there were no lies.
