Why is U.S. preparing to attack Iran?
Friday, November 2 at 12:37 PM

Joseph M. Beggs of Colorado Springs writes:

The United States of America, the wonderful country in which you and I live, is preparing to attack Iran.

WHY?

**Because they are BAD people in Iran? Well, they seemed OK when the corrupt Shah was in power. We provided him with multiple billions of dollars in the hope that Iran would be our ally in the cold war and provide us with cheap oil. Did the Iranian people tolerate this corruption and “remote control” by the U.S.? Not too well. Must be GOOD people, then…
**Because they have weapons of mass destruction? Give me a break. Haven’t we heard that one recently, just before we attacked Iraq? Don’t think it’s true this time, either.
**Because they are a threat to our allies (Israel, Saudi Arabia, etc.) in the region? Let’s put the shoes on OUR feet for a minute...
If someone had attacked and subdued Mexico without provocation recently, and we were acting upset about it, would we care how we were perceived by the allies of those who occupied Mexico? No, we would be rightfully worried about whether we were next, and we would be doing anything in our power to see that it doesn’t happen to us. Fomenting rebellion in Mexico?...A logical step! Threatening the occupiers and their allies with mass retaliation if they try to attack us?...Hopefully, we would be strong enough to do these things, and more if necessary. In other words, as long as we continue to threaten and intimidate Iran, they will be a major threat to us.
**Because they compete with our other sources of oil in the region? Ah, now we seem to be getting somewhere. Iran is an economic threat to the real allies of George Bush, the Oil Companies, and THEIR ally, Saudi Arabia. In the pretext of defending the interests of the United States of America, George Bush has spent hundreds of billions of your tax dollars to defend the interests of those who put him in power, the all powerful Texas-based oil companies. Dick Cheney has supported these efforts in the name of the people he obviously represents, the Military-Industrial Coalition. And don’t you dare interpret this letter as a lack of support for our troops in the field. If the representatives of the people, so-called, in our Government had half the courage of our servicemen, we would never have gotten into this mess in the first place.
Up until this point, Iran has not attacked us, or our allies or assets, anywhere in the world. But they are understandably worried, after our unprovoked attack in Iraq, about who is next. Make no mistake, Iraq was a relatively small country, with no Air Force and a vastly diminished ground Army when we attacked them. Iran is no such thing. If we attack Iran, our whole world will change. The global anger we are experiencing now is nothing compared to the rage that would be initiated by attacking Iran. And, just the same as we would if the people who invaded Mexico attacked us, in the above illustration, Iran would not rest, I repeat, would not rest, until that attack was avenged. The World War that would ensue if we attack Iran could lead, I’m afraid, to the eventual demise of the most wonderful country that has ever existed, the United States of America.
I am an American Citizen, born in the USA the same as Bruce Springsteen. My father is a Veteran of World War II, and I was honorably discharged after serving our country during the Vietnam Era. When I go to watch my Rockies play, I sing the entire Star Spangled Banner, and right afterward, I yell “Play Ball” at the top of my lungs. Every time! And because I live in this wonderful country, I feel free to write this letter.
If you have the same misgivings I do, now is the time to stand up and be counted.
God Bless our USA!

Why is U.S. preparing to attack Iran?

Because Cheney told Bush to do it.

OMG!!! Panic time here. We are running short of koolaid for the left. Got to hope the next shipment comes without sweetner as they are hyper enough as is.

I know why we must invade Iran. My divinely inspired president told me that Iranian missiles are going to be launched on Poland. That has to be the most frightening thing since Saddam Hussein tried to launch unmanned drones with WMD's on us! It's so clear isn't it.

Woo hoo! I'm an anonymous coward who can call people names and insult them without any facts or real information.

In other words, I'm a Republican. That's why I don't directly talk about the issues. Because my party is completely clueless.

We had 6 years of absolute power, with a solid majority in both houses of Congress, the presidency and the Supreme Court. All we accomplished was to get the country into record debt, start an unnecessary war and ruin our already crappy reputation.

You have to love all the "named" posters that think because they have a name tag, their comments magically make sense or have validity. The name calling is equally as vial and vicious from either side of an argument with or without a name tag. These posts are nothing more than outlets for comments by the sane and the insane alike. I'm right you're wrong, your right, I'm wrong. In the grand scheme of things it won't change a damn thing, save for showing just how screwed up people and society really are. So post away fellow sane or insane people, but remember in the grand scheme of things, nobody really gives a damn about what you think. If a 10th of the shit posted here was ever actually said to or directed at someone in person, the assault, violence, murder and psychiatric incarceration rates would go through the roof.

wow have you told Bush your plans to attack?
hillbillary or Mrs bill clinton is the only one I have heard talk about going into iran.
you are such a fart smettler.

Anyone notice that Laura Bush made the mid-east rounds last week and at each stop had "private" meetings with heads of state. I don't think they were talking about breast cancer.

The first lady was putting a "personal" touch on some very important information for the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, etc.

Was this a notice of a impending attack on Iran? Who knows. I could have been looking for support on some kind of sanctions. It was a very interesting whirlwind trip don't you think?

Mr. Beggs hit the (oil) drum smack dead on the head. It's ALL about oil. When the prez says US, he means he and his multinational, big money oil buddies. When he talks about Freedom and Liberty he's talking about HIS freedom and liberty to screw over everyone who disagrees with him. He's gotten us into self-checkmate and he'll have a tax haven when his term is over and leave us to clean up the mess he created, if that's possible. He and his friends are working hard to make sure we can't. And that's been the plan since they lied their way into office years ago. It's called Corporate Socialism.

So what if Iran gets a nuke and blows Isreal off the map.
Whats the big deal?
Its not like they dont deserve it.

DONT TAZE ME BRO!

I am tired of telling ya'll. The simplest way to rid America and the world of Bush, is to court martial him. Bush and Alito are both UCMJ-felons; AWOL, deserters and guilty of illegl separation and discharge. Pretend they are black and pack them off to SuperMax or Ft. Leavenworth to be come prison wives. What a bunch of morons...party lines and puke! Keep reading your papers and watching your uninformed news channels. Sheep!!!! Baaaaaaa! Baaaaaaaa!

NEWS IS DRIVEL!!!!!!!

Is it because they have WMD's, drones filled with sarin gas and/or mobile chemical weapons labs?

Posted by jay on November 2, 2007 07:43 PM

I propose we all just shut up since none of us really know anything about what is going on.

Being ex-MI I know the majority of what we hear and see in the media is intentional B.S. either because the media out right draws assumptions without telling anybody, lies to fill in missing gaps, or is lied to (given a very doctored story) by the different US Intel agencies. The bottom line is no US citizen ever has enough information to make a sound decision on anything they hear as it relates to national or international politics or military operations.

So ya know what? Sit down. Shut up and hang on for the ride. Maybe even bend over and kiss your keester good-bye. Ya just never know.

Posted by Harry on November 2, 2007 07:55 PM

Harry:
Let's just let Prez Pud try and scare us into another "winable" war in the middle-east. If you really are an ex- MI you already know that stands for moronic idiot.., and I wouldn't boast about it. AsUS citizens we have enough information to know that the two men who think they rules this country are dangerous meglomanics that should be removed from office, before THEY cause wwlll. So Harry I'm not going to sit down and shut up, because maybe your ass isn't worth much, but I believe that mine and millions of others are. IMPEACH BUSH AND CHENEY.

Talk about some serious generalizing! God forbid someone said the same thing about the democrats.......

Nick you poor baby you can't take another 15 months, then can ya? Which is about how long the whole process would take, and cost tax payers untold amounts..............

Nick Flamell:

If you really are an ex- MI you already know that stands for moronic idiot.., and I wouldn't boast about it.

Yeah, I've heard that before. Like all professions they have competent and incompetent people. Tell me, you ever try to put a puzzle together when all four corner pieces look alike, there is only one shape to the edge pieces, only two shapes to the inside pieces, and you don't even know what the picture is on the puzzle? You don't even know if you have all the pieces.

This is what MI and any other Intel agency deals with all the time. So before you put down a profession or any other group of people with generalities. . .think.

Posted by Harry on November 2, 2007 10:23 PM

See the thing is Harry, why should anyone believe a pathological liar like Prez Pud? He has lied about Iraq, New Orleans, California, Iran, oh and hey lets not forget torture and illegal wiretapping. He will continue feeding us lies until he is no longer in office.
The drones that provide info to the Pud only give him the information he wants to hear. The Pud doesn't like to read all the info, just what supports his twisted "reality." Get a grip Harry, this is someone who has failed at everything he has attempted. Business, government, the military, sobrierty and literacy. What a hero you got there Harry!!! Maybe you should encourage one of his brother's to run. How about Neil, he can finish off the S &L's.

Geeze,I hope we don't attack right now-Nobody has Pearled our Harbor lately and in the absence of some vicious catastrophic attack that scares us straight,we don't seem to do well with the industrialized violence necessary to win set-piece conflicts. If the Iranians are as smart as they seem, they won't provoke an open conflict, the way Saddam did.Stirring the pot in Iraq once in awhile and jacking up oil prices is working out OK for the mullahs.
If we do have to go to the mat with them,I hope our leadership has the brains to play this game right and wait until cleaning their clock makes US look like the good guys.Or work it out so NOT cleaning their clock makes us look like the good guys.

Does anyone agree with me that George Bush looks just a little bit like, and talks even more like, Alfred E. Newmen in the old Mad Magazine; " What, me worry"? But that's neither here or there. My point is, doesn't he look and sound like a talking head anchor man in a farcial comedy movie when he massacres the english language and stutters, groping for the correct usage of a word in the same way as George Carlin in his, the hippy dippy weather man, skit. You're supposed to laugh you right and left wingnuts. If you can't, get some help for your lack of tolerance.

Now for the other side. Doesn't Hillary remind you of the clueless bimbo house wife in Leave it to Beaver or that sophmoric twit jinni in that I frogot about, in defense of my sanity, absurdity of a series, something to do with an astronaut. Certainlyly she could of been Alfred E's half sister half girlfriend.

My point though, is serious; When are we going to wake up to the fact that we have been allowing the people who represent us far to much slack in our taxpayers leash and they have wandered off into a fantasy land where nothing is real, and it just doesen't matter as long a they get theirs' if the country slides down the insidous ramp they've created into the oblivion of Big Brother Land.

First, anybody who believes ANY president completely is not the brightest person.

Second, anybody who believes any facet of the media completely is not the brightest person.

Third, anybody who believes they have enough facts to make a judgment call regarding national and particularly international situations is not the brightest person. Even the Intel community only makes best guesses based on experience and available resources and advises the president accordingly. And the Intel community is only one adviser out of many to the president. (His decisions at times are made from a pnael of advisers.) And most times only a small fraction of what the Intel community has is ever released to the general public through the media.

Fourth, we all must have faith that the current president, who by the way is NOT elected by the majority but by the electoral college, will make the best possible decision for our country. At times that faith waivers as indicated by the polls. If it waivers too much and the severity of the current president's decisions is such, it can result in an impeachment.

So who does one believe? The media? The president? And which information does one believe? The information that best supports our argument? Or the information that best supports the opposing argument?

You see, we don't know the accuracy of the information the media has to begin with. We don't nor ever will have access to all the information needed to make a judgment on any president's decisions. All we really have is inferred information, not the most reliable.

Again, nobody has enough information to make any type of value judgment on anything the president does especially on the international level.

Believe who you want. All I know is that I must have faith in a system that will do the best it can for our country because I don't have enough facts to make a value judgment, and the information I do have can't be trusted.
