Rep. Liston apologizes on House floor for "sluts" remark

Friday, February 8 at 9:48 AM

Rep. Larry Liston apologized on the House floor today for calling unmarried teen parents “sluts” during a Republican caucus Wednesday on the problem of teen pregnancy in Colorado.

“Members, I believe in personal accountability and responsibility,” the Colorado Springs Republican said, his voice catching with emotion.

“On Wednesday, in a small group meeting, I used a derogatory word which was inappropriate and insensitive,” he added. “I was wrong to use the word and I am truly sorry for the offense it may have caused. And I have learned an important lesson.”

“I apologize to all of you and I hope we can move forward to do the work of the people we serve,” Liston concluded.

The lawmaker issued repeated apologies for the remark Thursday, but clearly felt a formal apology to the chamber was needed to put this issue behind him and the House.
