Bronzed; lineups added
Center fielder Dexter Fowler had the bronze medal he won while playing for Team USA in the recent Olympics. Teammates Brian Fuentes and Matt Herges not only admired it but tried it on.
Gaining weight has been an obstacle for Fowler. He said he's 6-foot-5 and 183 pounds but then added, "We can round it up to 185.:
RHP Aaron Cook will be seeking his 17th win, which would tie the single-season franchise record set by Kevin Ritz in 1996 and matched by Pedro Astacio (1999) and Jeff Francis (2007). Cook is 8-1 with a 3.97 ERA in day games.
Manager Clint Hurdle's lineup includes eight position players who bat right-handed. With lefty Barry Zito starting for Giants, Hurdle is trying to capitalize on a pronounced split. Right-handed hitters are batting .290 against Zito in 445 at-bats with 12 homers. Left-handed hitters are batting .241 against him in 116 at-bats with one homer.
