ProgressNow 'bitch-slapped' before Caldara
Jon Caldara managed to get liberal media watchdog group Progress Now to take the bait and generate lots of attention for his late-night radio show by wondering if Hillary Clinton got "bitch-slapped" during a debate.
Now blogger Ari Armstrong reports ProgressNow used "bitch slap" on its own site last September:
Biggest laugh line: "Mr. Bush cannot once again subcontract his responsibility. This is his war." (Want to bet?) They also bitch slap Petraeus for his complicity before the election in '04. Lynn Bartels reports on the ProgressNow/Caldara dustup:
Caldara used the term Monday after analyzing the Democratic presidential debate where Sens. Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama went after each other.Obama mentioned something Bill Clinton said, which prompted Hillary Clinton to say, "I'm here. He's not."
"Well, I can't tell who I'm running against sometimes," Obama fired back.
Caldara asked his guest, conservative pundit Ann Coulter, "Was it fair to say this woman got bitch- slapped tonight?"
Caldera's comment lit up the antenna of Liberal group ProgressNow, which went into full outrage mood and targeted Caldera's advertisers, yet has maintained silence when the term has been used by others, including Al Franken and James Carville.
Blogger Ari Armstrong noted Friday that three alternative newspapers along the Front Range have used the term at least 20 times. The phrase has been used in Westword, the Boulder Weekly and the Colorado Springs Independent in stories ranging from sports to restaurant reviews to music reviews.And the term has appeared in the liberal blog, dailykos.com, and has been used by Democrats Al Franken and James Carville.
"ProgressNow is clearly going after Caldara because they don't like Caldara," said Armstrong.
But Michael Huttner, executive director of ProgressNow, said the problem is Caldara has a "history of hate against women."
"If he doesn't apologize, we will send an e-mail to tens of thousands more people to call 850 KOA's advertisers and demand that they not be associated with Caldara and his shows demeaning women," Huttner said.

This seems to be distorded. Mike Collins, the person who used the term "bitch slap" on ProgressNow's blog, is not an employee of ProgressNow. They have a community blog that lets anyone post blogs, like Dailykos and other open blogs. You can set one up in about five minutes.
However people feel about them calling out Caldara for the comment he made, I'm surprised the Rocky hasn't made the distinction between something written by staff versus the public, that is ethically problematic -- is the Rocky Mountain News going to take similar ownership of every comment posted to this site?

Oh wait, a reader of the Rocky's story on Saturday wouldn't know that because Ms. Bartels neglected to include that rather relevant piece of context. Given that she's a frequent guest on Caldara's public television program, do you think she may have had an agenda here by leaving out that Armstrong and Caldara have a relationship?
For that matter, why would the Rocky allow a reporter with a clear conflict of interest to do the story in the first place?
The Rocky ran a one-sided story, in which the goal clearly was to try to discredit the critic rather than gather a balanced look at whether the average listener would find it offensive that a host on the public airwaves would use a term that literally refers to violence against women in describing a negative experience involving a woman.
Why is that? Why does this story show no apparent attempt to contact the management at KOA for their reaction? Why was there no apparent attempt to speak with Caldara's advertisers to determine if they are comfortable sponsoring a show with this type of dialogue?
Anyone at the Rocky care to answer?

Right after the student killings at Virgina Tech, I turned on AM760 to see what they were talking about.
A loon by the name of "Tom Hartman" was stating that it is no wonder why this happened because Police officers carry guns and the kids see this and get ideas.
I am not kidding you.
I remember when the NRA suggested shooting Law Officers in the head since they could be wearing bullet proof vests. I support our rights to own guns but I do believe in sensible laws regulating firearms. I remember when President Bush (the older smarter one) denounced his NRA membership over the dust up following the remarks. I also recall the NRA opposing the banning of armour piercing bullets and the manufacture of plastic guns. The NRA is a repugnant organization.
