Gomes to Gomez to Gomez ... GOAL!
The Rapids announced Monday that they've signed Brazilian midfielder Rafael Gomes, who most recently played for CD Santa Clara in Portugal.
Gomes also has played for Vasco de Gama, Bragantino, Olaria, and Atletico Mineiro in Brazil. The Rio de Janeiro native was in the Vasco youth system for eight years and played on the U-15 and U-17 Brazilian national teams alongside Ronaldinho.
To comply with limits on the salary cap and roster size, the Rapids also did not offer contracts to midfielder Daniel Antunez and forward Kevin Forrest and waived defender Chase Hilgenbrinck, midfielder Scott Campbell, defender Brandon Prideaux and defender Cliff Wilmes.
The Rapids also signed defender Jordan Harvey to a senior roster contract and John DiRaimondo, Nick LaBrocca, Mike Graczyk, midfielder Brian Grazier and defender Cesar Zambrano to developmental roster contracts.
There's a little bit more at the Rapids' Web site, including a photo of Gomes in a Rapids kit.
