Techies on tour
If you've lit The Lion King, you can light Michelle Obama.There are backstage theater artists aplenty at the Pepsi Center this week, some of them wearing mementoes of former jobs, such as the guy in the "Lion King Gazelle Tour" polo shirt.
Lighting designer Jacob Welch seems to be on the scene, but was declined comment, citing his contract.
Ben Neafus, a longtime sound designer from the New Denver Civic Theatre, has been traveling the country with road shows such as Annie and Kidzbop before he got temporary work as an electrician for NBC during the convention. I ran into him outside the NBC anchor booth on the 200 level of the Pepsi Center, and it was far from his first theatrical reunion of the week.
"It's amazing how many people I've run into that I knew from the road," he said.
