Let's Get Ready to RRRUMBLE

Quite often I'll start the thought process by making a list like this. If I have multiple topics that I want to think about, it helps me sort them out and gets the wheels spinning. The little sketches are usually done in the midst of a phone call or just jotting a thought down.
I got two cartoon ideas out of this one page, and I hope I'm able to mine another one out of the NBA playoffs being so long. I only put one rough up today because I'll use the other one for later next week. It will be a short week for me (more on that in a future blog), and I'm trying to stockpile a few national concepts so I can feed the syndicate during my break. I have to do two a week for United Features, which is often a challenge because I love doing local cartoons.

The rough draft needed a little tweaking. After showing it to Moose, who is one of my sports editors (Yes, that's his name. I can't make up stuff like that.), we both agree the phrase in the second word ballon just doesn't sound right. It needs to be a little more crisp so Moose bounces a few suggestions for wording and we go with it. Yesterday, Moose helped me choose the daliy cartoon that we ran on Thursday by flipping a coin. I had two cartoons that we could have gone with, but neither had a timely element to it, so we flipped for it. Such is the intricate detailed work of daily newspapering.

I don't know what I missed last weekend, but it must've been good! Another good strip, Drew.
