A Very Fine Line

drew1113toon.gif

They really should play certain NFL games really late at night so as not to scar the children. Ugly isn't even the word to describe the Broncos-Raiders debacle. It's hard to believe they charge people money to watch something so bad, so putrid it makes the dogs howl.

Jake continues to baffle me. He looked worse than awful yesterday. But it did answer one lingering question. Shanahan is willing to ride Plummer into the ditch if that's where it leads him. Unless Plummer gets hurt it's doubtful we'll see Cutler this season.

The game was a throw-away game but it still left the Broncos with some problems unsolved. The running game is weaker than ever and with the Chargers game just around the corner there is much patchwork to be done this week to cover up the cracks in the dam.

    Drew, take a breath...

If it aint broke, dont fix it! I said weeks back that as long as the Broncos are winning games (however putrid or ugly) Shanny is going to be going with Plummer. To me, as much angst it brings me, it makes sense.

Your drawing is right on though...Jake is walking on a tightrope, but I think an interesting addition to the toon would be to have Shanny on one side of the rope with a knife wanting to cut the rope.

I am one of the biggest Bronco homer there is... I would love to see Cutler, but we cant throw him into a game that 'doesnt mean anything' unless that really is the fact. Right now, the Donks need to win every game and Oakland was just bad enough to keep Denver around to allow them to win. With San Dog coming to town next week, the game will have BEHEMOTH impacts for both teams.

    GO BRONCOS!

Drew, you can't honestly believe that shanahan was giving plummer every opportunity to succeed. When Stephen Alexander is your leading reciever, I believe that is what's called "dumbing down your offense." I agree with you that Jake played horribly, but Shanahan knew he didn't have to do much to beat the Raiders so he went with a conservative game plan, just like the last time we played them.

Drew, I could only listen to a webcast of the Broncos yesterday. That game was so bad, it made my computer smell funny.

I'm still not sure keeping Jake playing is the right call. Even though we won, can anyone honestly say they have 100% confidence that we can beat an Indy, SD, or Chi? We are not at that level yet. We are not a Super Bowl contender, but are on way to it for 2007. Our defense is great until it is tested by a world-class quarterback. Our running game is tops until we meet a strong defensive team. Our passing game shows flashes of brilliance and incompetence, often in the same series. We just don't have it together yet.

Although it is sacrilige to say it, we should use the remainder of the season and the tough schedule to prepare for 2007. Let Cutler get some reps and experience now. Try to develop Mike Bell and the other power runners. Develop a better pass defense scheme instead of the "wait 'til they get close and hope for a turn-over"

    Rant off

Why couldn't Peyton Manning chucked the ball to Darrent Williams on all those comeback routes, like Jake did on the first Int yesterday. But while the City of Denver, and Bronco Nation ponders the problems of the Broncos think about this. Albeit against the *expletive* Raiders Denver is finding ways to win despite themselves. If they get into a playoff game that is looking bad on one side of the ball, they have to know the other will keep them in it.

I will continue to stand by my statement that Jake will be pulled from the San Diego game in front of a national audience. I just have that feeling.

    Drew,

How about, while your drawing a tribute to Roy's HOF induction, we remind folks that they can now officially stop invoking Patrick when discussing the current Avalanche team. What a bunch of saps. And to boot, one of their players (Liles) holds the title of Dirtiest Player in the NHL after his knee hit on Ryan Smyth. Liles should be suspended for the duration of the season for that kind of crap. What a moron.

....and when I said saps, I was talking about the current Av's squad....not the fans. Okay? All I can say is that Theodore is an official dead weight anchor on the franchise, eh?
