Follow the Leader

I love to draw Melo. I'm glad that he signed the long-term deal to stay in Denver for awhile. That said, I'm among those who don't believe that Melo has the leadership qualities needed to take the Nuggets to the next level. His behavior during the season opener is a perfect example of why. He has a lot of growing to do but even then I'm not sure he has the intangibles necessary to fill that kind of role.
Talk about bad breaks. The Broncos defense was decimated with injuries during their game against Pittsburgh which could leave them vulnerable in the weeks ahead. Sometimes success in the NFL is all aboout staying healthy.
I had an opportunity to preview the Complete History of the Broncos DVD set. It's a good stocking stuffer I think. Great footage from the '77 Orange Crush and the leaner days in Broncos history. And I'm happy and honored to say they used about a half a dozen win, lose & Drew cartoons from the Elway era.

Drew,
You hit the nail on the head with your comments about Carmelo. It is very apparent by his "players need to be able to express themselves" comment after practice yesterday that he just doesn't get it. He will NEVER be on the level of a Dwayne Wade or Lebron James because it is all about Melo.

This doesn't look like a great year for 'dem Nuggets, it's times like this when I'm happy to be a Jazz fan. Sloan is all about character, the Nuggets not so much.

Melo is the best player on the Nuggets. I dont think he is a leader either, but he doesnt have to be. I dont think LeBron, Kobe or McGrady are good leaders either, just good players.
I believe Marcus Camby is the captain of the Nuggets (at least he was last season). Hopefully he is still has that position

Usually I'm with you Drew, this one I'm not. He didn't get a technical for it, but I know the great Tim Duncan was complaining in the Spurs opener with Dallas last week. Melo usually isn't a huge complainer. However, every notable player in the league is going to complain at some point. The way he handled himself this summer was a true indicator of what he's capable of. And frankly Arnie, who cares if Melo doesn't speak clearly. I've heard worse.
