A Nuggets Fashion Statement

I'm sure it won't be long before we see grown businessmen showing up at the office in a suit and Nuggets headband. I'm not quite sure where this whole headband thing began. I just find it kind of humorous. But, then again, I find most things humorous. Cartoonists always look at the world and see googly eyes and honker noses. It's all part of the job description. So if you ever happen to run into me somewhere know that I'm always checking to see just how big your ears are. Big ears just make me laugh. And that often leads to a cartoon idea.

Drew - you're on a hot streak this week. Good stuff.
Only thing that would be better is the color ones, but I know that's tough and more $$$

Nothing new here. If it's about the Nuggets, Drew does a positive cartoon. If it's about the Avs, he does a negative cartoon. The other day it was all smiles about Anthony and Iverson. Did he do anything positive about the dynamic duo of Stastny and Wolski? No, of course not. He showed Theodore counting his money. Did he show Kenyan Martin counting his money? Nope. Drew will do whatever he can to bash and ridicule the Avs while hyping and pumping the Nuggets. It's ridiculous.

Drew...this cartoon made me laugh out loud this morning! I love it! Its everything I can do to not wear my headband in my cubicle...well...maybe not, but I can relate!
In response to "Reader"'s comment... This cartoon isn't so much a "postive cartoon about the nuggets" as a comical look at the hype surrounding the team right now.. I'm sorry, but there isn't that much hype around the Avs in town at this time, at least not in my circles... The salary cap has really prevented the team from being spectacular... but the Nugs have potentional right now, and it makes it exciting!

Just a note about color. Yes, the new presses give us more color capability but we don't have color available on every page so that means I'll be getting color at random...I won't know if I have it until the day I do the cartoon, so it will be hit and miss as it falls on certain pages throughout the section. Hopefully , I'll have it a few days a week but I won't have it everyday I draw.

Reader....are you basing your comments on just that cartoon. Drew's done plenty of positive toons for the Avs. Frankly if you look at it from a different point of view, it's actually positive to know a guy making less is OWNING the goal right now.
Now I don't know where some people get the idea that anyone in the media is SUPPOSE TO BE all positive all the time.
Oh Drew...please be positive. Please draw a toon with Avalanche players hugging each other after a loss. Draw Jake Plummer helping an old woman across the street, right after he has road rage. Can you draw a toon that shows Aaron Cook smiling after allowing a monster home run. Oh Drew just be positive. How about one with Bill Parcells, T.O., and Donovan McNabb dancing together. What about one with Barry Bonds taking vitamins. Oh golly gee, can't we be positive.

This reminds me of the one last year where the kid was shaving the family dog for a Jake Plummer beard. Same theme anyway.
Maybe you should do one of Jake Plummer getting a job at the post office and people not getting their mail like they were expecting.

Headbands are the least of the NBA's problems. The problem is more image based from a standpoint of all these idiots looking like grafitti walls with all the tattoos. That and the stupid cornrows with the things hanging down the back of the head. What the hell is that? The NBA is full of idiots like Iverson and Anthony. It's be nicer if players would have respect for the game and for the teams that are paying their salary. Look professional and be professional. Steve Nash, Gilbert Arenas, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, etc....
The Nuggets are full of players that just look like they're playing street ball in Compton (exceptions are Eddie N. and Blake and Nene.) Simply put....this is why there is a dress code in the NBA now. Look back a ways. Magic Johnson, Dr. J, Kevin McHale, Larry Bird. They had respect for the game and the teams they played for. It was an honor for them to represent their families and the universities they attended. The NBA is a mess, aside from at least the very few who I have afore mentioned. I'd like to see more players actually care more about the game and the impression people have of them rather than their $17 Million contract.

Thanks for the compliment Dwayne. Yes, I mean Compton. Ever been there? People playing street ball for money? Gangsterville central.
Anthony associated, and probably still associates with gamg members in Baltimore. Iverson certainly has had drug problems before (Anthony too...he just let his friends take the fall so there wouldn't be any evidence against him directly.) and Iverson ran (and likely still runs) with the wrong crowd....gang members.
They look the part. They act the part. They are both extremely bad people to have in the NBA spotlight. Thank the powers that be that David Stern is running the NBA.
I'm very anxious to wake up one morning and see a front page headline that tells me that Carmel Anthony and/or Iverson, were both busted for something big. Maybe then the league can shed its gangster image and move on. And yes....I blame both of these players directly. Anthony is a punk and a wuss that throws punches and then backpedals away like a sissy. Iverson is simply put....a lazy, mush-mouthed brat who has never worked a hard day in his whole life. He spent time at one of the finest schools in the nation (Georgetown) and was coached by one of the finest coaches ever (John Thompson) and he never learned anything. I hope he goes broke some day so I can order a burger from him at the local Good Times. Damn idiots.

Another thing...Any player that gets suspended for fighting should never make the All Star roster. I pray that Mike D'Antoni is smart enough to leave Anthony off the team regardless of where he stands with season stats. Iverson simply doesn't belong because he didn't start the season in the West and just showed up recently. If anyone makes it, Camby would be the only one, and even that's iffy. he'll probably break his wittle itty bitty pinky again and won't be able to play. Talk about someone collecting a lot of money to collect missed shots all night and do almost nothing else productive. Make Jose Theodore look like a saint sitting at the end of the Av's bench.
There are reasons why Anthony has not been selected before. People know he's an immature punk. He is a poison. It's why Detroit passed on drafting him. Wake up people.

Tom...I blame parenting, not on how A.I. or Melo LOOK, but for the fact you live in a box that only sees what you want to see. Dude's black, he's got tatooes, and corn rows....GOTTA BE A GANSTA!!! He doesn't speak like he went to Harvard....GOTTA BE A GANSTA!!! But wait, there's more.....Columbine (Hate to use it) Two white guys from a good neighborhood, they wouldn't put on the biggest school shooting ever would they, no because they're not gansta. Darrent Williams, had cornrows, he's black, was out late at a night club.....he had to have caused the ruckus that ended up with his shooting right. Dude there are bigger problems in the world than how they look in the NBA. See Terrorism!

Parenting?
Oh. Yeah. Parent are the one to blame for 2 kids deciding to shoot up a high school. Bad parenting is the reason that Carmelo Anthony has been connected to drugs twice. It's the reason that Iverson has been connected to drugs in the past. It's the reason why Darrent Williams decided to run with gangs during his younger years.
Sure....it's always the parent's fault, right Dwayne? In no way should we actually expect these adult men to act like adults unless they have their parents holding their hand and changing their diapers.
The thought that Iverson is a parent and that Anthony might someday be a parent scares the hell out of me.
You may think I'm sterotyping, but this is what the NBA has become. It's got a very bad reputation that it never had before.
Added note: What the hell is Shaq O'Neal doing in the All Star game at all, much less actually starting the game? 12 points a game average? Missed damn near the whole season? That's just wrong.

Your ignorance is impressive. The fact you can't look at what guys like Melo, A.I., and Darrent Williams are.
Let me guess, Melo putting up $1.5 million of his own money for a youth center in Baltimore is just a cover so he looks good right. Darrent Williams intention to return to Ft. Worth and coach kids this summer and help them follow a more productive path like he was shown by someone before he went down the wrong one.
But go ahead, be a cynic. The world needs them. The world needs idiots like you to set the low end of the I.Q. range.
And yes the parents are to blame for what happened at Columbine. Don't you think you ought to know that your kids have an arsenal of guns in your home? Charles Barkley was right on when he said he isn't a role model. That's the parents job.
By the way....the term All-Star doesn't always pertain to stats. Key word...STAR, Shaq's a star in the NBA.

The Nuggets get way more positive attention from the media than the Avs do. They have more talent and higher expectations and are a better team than the Avs (and have had higher expectations for a few years now). They also have 2 of the top scorers in the entire league. Meanwhile, the Avs probably won't even make the playoffs. And despite all of this, the Avs STILL outdraw the Nuggets at the Pepsi Center, and by a good margin. The Avs still sell out about half of their games and are averaging over 98% of capcity in attendance, which is WAY better than the Nuggets are doing. And this is WITH all of the advantages the Nuggets have, including the incredible hype of having two of their league's biggest superstars.
Maybe a better cartoon for Drew to do would be one that shows what a terrific hockey market Denver is.
