All-Star Defense

I grew up watching great defensive basketball at UTEP that was taught by Don Haskins and executed wonderfully by the players he mentored. So it's tough for me to watch the NBA and especially the NBA All-Star game where defense is non-existant. Call me old fashioned but I just like fundamental basketball better.
I'm taking a few days off as I blogged on Wednesday to get some of those "life maintenence" things done. Stuff like the getting car serviced BEFORE the oil light comes on, hanging some newly framed pictures (never my own cartoons by the way), putting together a new drawing board (I wanted a new wooden one to match the bookcases) and buying new vacuum cleaner because I broke the last one over the weekend and when you have three dogs you can't go long without the vacuum cleaner. But I still try to find time in the midst of all of these mundane chores to feed my creativity. My wife and I went to see "Music and Lyrics", the new movie starring Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant. It was good. I've always loved music and once thought if I couldn't make it as a cartoonist I would have moved to Nashville and made a go of it as a songwriter. Thank goodness the cartooning thing worked out. I also bought a new album by a band called Fireflight. I seem to be in kind of a rock and roll mode these days and this one certainly fits that genre. I'll let you know how it is once I've listened for awhile. I also picked up a copy of Nicklelodeon's Cartoon magazine. Very interesting stuff. It features a lot of different cartoonists and the styles are all over the map, so that's a good thing for me to see and absorb a little. I highly recommend it for budding cartoonists.
Check out my next cartoon on Saturday when I'll be drawing something on NASCAR.
Til then, take care.
Drew

Drew,
Thank you for that second paragraph. I love learning more about the man behind the cartoon. I grew up reading your stuff (I will always remember Elway's teeth). Hearing from you about your opinions, advice, and even life-minutiae really helps me better connect and relate to you and your art. Enjoy your time off. I look forward to the next cartoon.

Anyone else wondering why they still use the word "guard" as a position title in the All-Star game?
Seems a little out of place.
Kind of like the term "defenseman" in the NHL All-Star game.
I am looking forward seeing Anthony being reduced to head cheerleader and never getting off the bench. I don't think that Mike D'Antoni likes him much and since the game is at a neutral site....he can do whatever he wants. I think Anthony will pay a little more for his fisticuffs. Stern may have shown "mercy", but D'Antoni doesn't have to.
Thanks for the further insight Drew.

What a complete joke this game is.
It's nothing but Bryant and James jacking up shots.
Stupid freaking NBA.

285 total points.
Kobe Bryant is one of the most selfish players I have ever seen.
Stoudemire was the best player on the court all night.
At least he had the balls to foul players and make them earn it.
How does Anthony get on the court for 7 more minutes than Dirk Nowitzki (who was a voted starter)? That makes no sense. Apparently D'Antoni lost his mind.

NBA Joke weekend. No defense, 1 pass shoot, no pass shoot. Me, me, me. Unbelievable.
This game is not for the fans, it's for the ego's of the players. Like they need bigger ego's. Too bad Carmello, who nobody wanted on the team anyway, didn't turn down the gimme too show he may be growing up.
The hip hop generation will be the death (literally) of the game. Remind me, wasn't Darrent killed after a NBA hip -Hop party. Yeesh!

The game is suppose to be entertaining but since there is not so much defensive i think they should be even more entertaining
