Gen R?

drew0511toon.gif

The Rockies continue to disappoint which, of course, makes drawing cartoons about them that much easier. The guy I feel sorry for in all of this is Todd Helton. He has given the best years of his career to a franchise that doesn't care and has no intentions of fielding a winner. I'd be sad to see him go but the thought of him in a Red Sox uniform playing in theWorld Series makes it all so much easier.

With the Nuggets and Avalanche both out of the playoffs the cartoon topics are not quite as plentiful. I don't want to spend the next few weeks doing nothing but Barry Bonds cartoons but that looks like a good possibility as he closes in on Aaron's record.

Where's World Cup Soccer when I need it most?

    Drew,

I fondly remember the Blake Street Bombers and all the good times I had when I lived in Colorado, going to the Rockies games. It's too bad we don't have Gebhardt back running the show.

Here's an Idea....why don't you do a Crush cartoon? You know, the team in Denver that you have only drawn about once? I mean I can understand if you don't like the AFL but there are other Denver sporting events going on. Don't complain for a lack of material simply because you've limited your sights to Baseball, basketball, NFL, and Hockey.

The Arena league is one of the worst ideas to ever hit the sports scene.
Professional shuffleboard would be more interesting.

I don't feel sorry for Helton at all. He's had a great '07 thus far, but the reality is that he's the poster boy for statistical correction in the post testing era. He's decline perfectly corresponds to the first and second year of steroids testing. His worst years are at the same age as the best years for previous Rockies great hitters. In any other town he'd be a pariah with the salary he draws.

the rockies are sorry...keep poking fun at them Drew...i won't care about this team until they get sold to an owner who cares and a real GM.

    Interesting thought Dinger.

Helton's HR totals have been on a MAJOR decline since the "testing" has gone into effect.

Wonder if there is a connection.

I don't see Helton as the steroids type, but then, you never know. He might very have been a heavy user prior to all the investigating and now that there is more testing, he has gone off the stuff and therefore his HR numbers are affected.

Guilty until proven innocent in this day and age.

I love "win, lose & Drew", it kills me (in the funny sort of way)! I always follow your cartoons even though I have moved from Denver and have lived all over the country. You probably need another fan suggestion like you need a hole in your head, but I would love to see one of your cartoons portraying the "new" Suns bench as one with infant car seats and child restraints. Just an idea...you probably have way funnier things to write : )
