This is the most surreal moment right now. I have seen the Broncos win the Super Bowl. I have seen the Avalanche win Lord Stanleys Cup. Now i have seen the ROCKIES sweep their way to the World Series. I live in Ohio right now (originally from Denver) and i can feel the Rocky Mountain High from here. Bring on the Indians or the Sox. We can take on the world!
Did I say…

If a picture is worth a thousand words, this cartoon speaks a book - thanks Drew.

Lets all thank the D-backs and Eric Byrnes in particular for out playing the Rockies 0 games to 4. How fitting it was to see be Byrnes face down in the dirt to end the game.
Comment over heard by a fan wearing a San Diego Chargers jersey " the Rockies suck"...I believe that he meant the Broncs suck! Rockies World Series just rolls off the tongue doesn't it...Waaaahooo
When they won last night I just kind of sat there. I don't know if it has sunk in just what has happened yet.

Does this NOW prove that you CAN play winning baseball in Denver? And you CAN pitch here, too!! So much for the "experts" for all those years. And they did it the right way... thru the farm system. We have a chance to be good for a long time. And thank you Todd Helton for being humble, staying loyal and being a role model. Your dream - and ours - has come true!!!

Congratulations Rockies from Southern Indiana. I sat in the stadium when you started, kept all of the baseball cards, and shirts and jacket. Watch the games on the dish from here, and yelled when you won last night. WAY TO GO GUYS, THAT WAS AWESOME, AND ON THE WAY TO THE WORLD SERIES IS THE BEST YET TO COME.
Hmm...no one on the message board this morning crying about the Rockies cheating, using steroids, being lucky, or due for a faceplant. Maybe their big mouths are stuffed with humble pie.
Great toon Drew.
What a gret year for our Rockies and none of this would have happened if it had not been for the ownership who made the investment to bring major league baseball to the fans in Colorado. Thanks Charlie and Dick!!!!!!!!

After living in Colorado since 1982 and watching the Bears and Z's we longed for MLB in Denver. I made it to games in '93 & '94. Even when business caused us to move to TX, my son and I were in right field for the home opener of Coors Field in '95. Got to catch the Rocks this year while traveling on business and liked the direction the team was going, but NEVER dreamt of the WORLD SERIES! GO ROCKIES FROM YOUR FANS IN KELLER, TX!

From Houston Texas I have been following the Rockies 15 years now. Every time they are in town I make sure to visit them at Minute Maid Park. Also when the Astros visit Denver, I get a chance to see my hometown the Mile High City. I love this team, for me it ranks up there with the Broncos Super Bowls!!!
Sitting in Foggy Soggy Portland, OR, watching my home team sweep was one of the best days ever. Even better to learn that my Dad was at the game.

I am soooo happy for the Rockies!! I lived in Denver for 20 years and have great memories of Bears and Zephyr games but nothing as great as this!! On a visit to Denver saw the Rockies against SF Giants and saw Todd Helton hit 3 HR in that game! What a player!! He and the rest of team showed you don't need the "big buck" players to win!!!! Now lets keep going and win the series!!!

MAN WHAT A RIDE!!!! I was stationed in the UK in the USAF when they announced the Denver was getting a MLB team. Being a Denver native now in NM, I watched the building of a team from afar. I have been to several games over the years and hoped that we would just compete and be close. I never would have expected this to play out the way it has. Way to go ROX!!!! I think that this team has what it takes to win it all... Humility, talent and leadership. I am especially happy for Todd Helton.
Kudos to Drew for all the great toons and prayers to you and your wife and family.
Cheers. GOOOOO ROCKIES!!!!!!!!!!!
This is happening so fast that it's still unreal. I had faith that the lessons they learned in the second half of 2006 they could apply this year to make something happen when it had to happen. Mainly hitting with two outs. Todd, buddy, deer season will have to wait this year!!
I got up at 4:00 Am for the last 15 games to listen to the Rockies on KOA over the computer here in Baghdad. The Rockies' achievement makes things here seem possible!
Holliday was still out at the plate vs. San Diego. Everybody knows it.
The balls that are in play when the Rockies are batting are not the same as the balls the opponent gets to hit. There are people who work for the Rockies who know this as a fact. The humidor was announced as a ploy to make people think otherwise.
All of you people are hypocrites. You're the same people who were calling every radio show on the planet earlier in the year and demanding Hurdle's head on a platter. Now you love him?
You were calling for Dick and Charlie to sell the team. Now you sell your souls to them?
Hypocrites. Freaking hypocrites.
I'm a native of Colorado now living in Las Vegas. I have never been a baseball fan but I started watching the Rockies a few weeks ago and now I'm hooked!! Go Rockies!!!!! Let's Go All The Way!!!!
Matt Holliday's reaction:
"Holy CRAP, we're going to the world series."
Way to go.
Way to sound like a complete moron. Possibly you could have chosen wiser words to describe your euphoria? I mean, THAT'S the soundbite that the city of Denver has to relive for eternity?
Blah, blah, blah.
Look people. This team did NOTHING for the entire season up until the last month, and people are slobbering all over themselves to take the ride. It's really quite disgusting. It's like Rockies fans are turning into Yankees Fans West. What a bunch of bandwagon bums. You sit in the shadows for a decade, and when the Rockies get lucky because other teams get screwed due to phantom out calls, phantom strike zones that somehow don't apply when the Rockies are at bat, and that the Rockies are supporting an obvious steroid user in Matt Holliday.
You all support him now, but how about when he gets caught? Also, how supportive will you be when the Rockies go 70-92 next season?

I appreciate the show of unity, the quiet strength, and humbleness that the team is giving all of our children for examples.
I can not wait to sit around as a family and loudly cheer for you in the WORLD SERIES.!! Whooo Hoooo!
We will be dancing in our Rockies underwear on the front porch and screaming when you take it all the way home.
Thank you for every single minute.
HAHAHAHAHA.........you guys are funny!!!!! Some people still cannot get over the fact the Rockies are going to the World Series and they did not do it by cheating or getting lucky or having the umps on their sides or using "juiced" baseballs. They did it playing good old fashioned baseball. Way to go Rockies!!!
From News Services:
With its matchup of small-market, tradition-poor teams, the National League Championship Series is setting TV ratings lows.
The Colorado Rockies' 11-inning, 3-2 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks in Game 2 on Friday night drew a 2.2 national rating, less than half of the lowest-ever prime-time league championship series rating before this season (4.9).
Game 1 on Thursday night, when more viewers traditionally watch TV, had set the previous record low of 3.6.
Game 2 started at 10:12 p.m. and ended at 2:46 a.m.
Based on this, there isn't going to be a soul who cares to watch the World Series.
You can thank your Rockies for basically ruining America's past time.
Cleveland vs. Colorado?
That's a nightmare.
Should be fun playing in a 20 degree windchill, eh?
The people who really lose out here are the real baseball fans all over the country who want real teams on their TV's. Not a bunch of nobodies.
The Rockies are ruining baseball.

I haven't blogged on spaces like Drew's very much, but people like WCH and TC are the reason why. Different balls for the opposing team? Steroid use? Bad umpires? I'm surprised you aren't somehow alleging the Rox cheated to achieve the "BEST FIELDING PERCENTAGE IN MLB HISTORY". Both of you...crawl back into the blogosphere hole from whence you managed to escape. You are extremely LITTLE LEAGUE.
Drew...the 'toon portrays it best. It's been a long climb to the second-highest peak in baseball. One more to climb. I'll be watching and cheering for the Rox...and laughing at the media (and WCH and TC) who never learned or appreciated what it takes to make a successful TEAM.
Baseball Mom -
Todd Helton is no hero.
He's a fraud. Helton hit 49 home runs a handful of years back. Guess why?
He took a whole lot of steroids.
Now he hits about 15 per year.
Matt Holliday is no hero.
Matt's head has gotten considerably larger the last two years. He's rapidly losing his hair. Both signs of steroid abuse (see barry Bonds. Bonds started ordering larger helmets soon after arriving in San Francisco, and also started shaving his head so it wouldn't be as obvious that the steroids were taking their toll on his hairline.) We used to see Holliday sporting curly locks, and now suddenly he's a cue ball.
He's on steroids. He knows it, and he's using the drugs to cash in on a big contract with Scott Boras. He's in it for the money. He doesn't care about your kids. He wants you to spend your money on Rockies products so that he can get a bigger paycheck. The same for Todd Helton.
Ever seen his commercials? he's asking people to donate their car and change a kid's life. Well, Todd - How about you go donate your absurd $17 Million salary and change a bunch of people's lives?
You're making a big mistake by telling your kid to look up to these frauds.
what kind of baseball fan would make a ridiculous statement like 'the Rockies are ruining baseball' ? A phony , thats what kind. Nice to have different teams in the playoffs for a change. The Rockies are playing some of the most exiting baseball I've ever seen.

All of you HATERS out there that think the Rockies are ruining baseball can't seem to stand having good competition in baseball. You feel that it should be the Yankees, Red Sox or Cards every year because it's a better draw. Who CARES what's a better draw!!! If you think it's ruining baseball then DON'T WATCH and quit crying like Nancy Kerrigan! Nobody east of Kansas knows we exist out here and I would like to keep it that way! The Rockies are on a historical run in this town, something we haven't seen (of this magnitude) since '77. I love this town, I love this game and I LOVE this team! I've been there since day 1 and I'll be there even if they go 70-92 next year! That's the beauty of baseball and the beauty of being a native of Denver, Colorado!! Big market teams....jealous..jealous ...jealous...Frankly, baseball is loads more fun when their not around.
As a Rockies fan, I think I speak for all of us when I say that we were all just happy to see our Rocks make it past .500. When we saw our team make it to the playoffs in an extra game, we were euphoric. To now see them sweep both the Phillies and the D-Backs, forget about it, this is the best time to be a Rockies fan and a baseball fan.
Anyone who could allege that the Rocks don't deserve to be here is either a Padres fan or (to quote a personal hero) a pickle sucker. That last play of the Padres/Rockies game came with one out, so even if Holliday was out (and I don't think there was any camera shot that definitively showed that he was), there was still one more out to play. The Rockies aren't playing the rockem sockem baseball of the Blake St Bombers, they're playing solid defense, the likes of which hasn't been seen around baseball in a good long time. Sure, the Rockies have had a few lucky breaks, but so what? That's what happens when you get on a roll, good things happen to you. Regardless you can't call them game or series changing breaks, the Rockies have been playing great baseball, that's why they've been winning in spades. I won't even touch the steroids allegations brought up here, because they're just so absurd.
The Rockies are great for baseball, and great for this state. People forget that the Rockies aren't just a Denver team, they're a Colorado team, and as a student away from home, it's great to see them doing so well.

First off, "working class hero"? YOU WOULDN'T KNOW WORKING CLASS IF IT BIT YOU IN THE BUTT. This Rockies team IS working class. COMPLETELY. So change your name you FILTHY HYPOCRITE, because YOU'RE not working class. You're WHINING class, blaming class, and SORE LOSER class. Oh, and Helton not hitting the ball as big as he used to? It's this amazing thing called a HUMIDOR. You should look it up on wikipedia you moron, it might help you to be EDUCATED before speaking. Seriously, try it sometime. Why do you think the Rockies can PITCH now?? Because of STEROIDS?? I think, Mr. Blame, that perhaps YOU'RE the one taking the steroids, and blaming everyone else for your faults. Boo hoo to you, poor sport.
If this is bad for baseball, I say LET IT BE BAD FOR BASEBALL!! You wanna watch TWO REAL teams duke it out for the rightful title, or some candy teams because that's what "eastern coast time zone fans" want? DOWN WITH THE NORM, UP WITH WHO DESERVES IT MOST!!!
And Rockies, our Rockies, no one deserves it more than you. I know MY FAMILY will be watching, and that's all that matters to me. Go crawl back to Arizona or New York with your lousy outplayed teams and cry in a beer or two; we don't need you here trying to ruin the greatest thing that has happened to us Colorado baseball fans due to your shriveled self esteem and lousy sour grapes. 21 of 22 is YOUR REALITY CHECK.
As a fan of the Bears and Zephyrs it was wonderful when we heard we were getting a Pro team...now in only 14 years in the league we are going to the WORLD SERIES, even though I moved away in 1992 I have followed the Rockies since there inception..I am proud to be a Rockies fan and congratulations to the team for a great year and wnderful memories.

Matt posting here = Matt Holliday.
The Rockies are going to get SWEPT by whichever team they play.
They'll have been dormant for a week. No momentum of any kind to bring into the WS.
Cleveland and Boston are superior franchises across the board. Both have far superior pitching. Both have far superior pitching. Both have better defenses. Both play REAL baseball at normal sea levels.
Colorado is in for a heap of trouble.
As a kid my dad took me to many Denver Bears baseball games and I never missed falling asleep lisening to the Bears on radio. NOW

Cleveland and Boston also have much better hitters across the board than Colorado. It's not even close.
Every hitter in the Rockies lineup is a product of Coors Field. It's that way now, and it's always been that way from the beginning.
Every player who has ever played for the Rockies should have this ( * ) attached to any stat they have gained while in uniform.
Coors Field is a crock.

That's not being a fan. That is being a bandwagon follower.
Either you're with the team 100% and proud of it, or you're not.
I never saw people coming on this blog all summer shouting this team up. Now, it's ridiculous.
Stop pretending that you all love this team. If you loved it, you would have been shouting all along. You all jumped on board way too late to be true fans.
Todd Helton...for the two years of working up through the ranks in the minors...for the eleven years of gutting it out with the Rockies...for the talk about trading him to the Boston Red Soxs...it was really a moment to see him catch the throw from TroyTulowitzki to make that final out against the Arizona Diamond backs. From long time veterans to recently called up rookies...this is a team...and desire is ALWAYS the greatest of all equalizers. Congratulations to all and may your best days be ahead of you.
Todd Helton stopped using steroids and his HR numbers dropped like a stone. He's a cheater. He's gotten where he is by cheating. Why would anyone applaud that?
It wasn't too long ago these guys were 18-27. Amazing how the season turned around. Its been fun to watch Helton finally get his chance in the postseason. Its also been fun watching the young guys develop this season the way they have.
And to the haters. Coors field is a crock, the Sox/Indians are better, etc. etc. You guys need to do some fact checking:
The Rox took 2/3 from the Sox in Fenway this season. Lost to Wakefield, beat Beckett, and completely deystroyed Schilling. Scored 12 runs against them when Schilling pitched. Guaranteed there isn't a manager that wants to face the Rockies lineup right now.
The Rockies are also the best defensive team in baseball, and have THE best fielding percentage of all time this season. Not to mention their pitching has been outstanding.
The average runs at Coors field this season was just above the league average, and wasn't anywhere close to being the highest. That would have been in Philly. Bobby Cox himself said the toughest pitching park in the National League was Cinncinnati. Didn't even mention Coors.
To the haters: Try getting your facts straight before posting your crap.
CJ = Crock Jackass.
gotta love how desperate wch sounds. i miss tom, you could at least tell that he had a brain and made legitimate arguments other than "matt holliday got big." i guess wch thinks that holliday is the only athelete who grew between the ages of 23 and 27. you're right, everyone is the exact same size from age 20 for the rest of their life. todd helton doesn't hit as many home runs as he once did because he got old and he has a bad back you idiot, read the freaking papers. helton also hit those 49 home runs pre humidor when coors was the #1 home run park in baseball, so if you want an asterisk next to it, that's the appropriate one, not steroids. what a ridiculous argument, do you realize how stupid you sound? anybody who wants to put an asterisk next to the rockies because of coors doesn't know jack. anybody wanna tell me where coors ranks in terms of being a home run park? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/stats/parkfactor?sort=HRFactor&season=2007 down at #5, right behind one of the teams the rockies just spanked. just appreciate that we are watching one of the greatest runs in the history of sport, we can debate it later. go rockies
It's much more fun debating it NOW.
Damn, you Rockies fans sound desperate defending your team.
You all don't seem to be able to handle critics very well.
So Non Working Class Zero,

And try actually posting a name next time.

Greetings from San Diego, CA.
I am very happy to see the Rockies go to the World Series. They truly deserved to go as they played great baseball.
The Rockies will represent the National League well.
Now why are there brickbats to go along with the bouquets in the comment section?
Jeff Berens writes:
Sure, Helton has gone a little downhill. But as said before, it is because of the humidor. But Todd Helton is all class. He showed his loyalty by not going to Boston. (Whom I hope we beat in the World Series for this reason) As for Helton and his salary, I agree that his offense isn't worth the 17 million. But look at his defense. Where would the Rockies be without his defense?
HEY DENVER HOW ARE THOSE BRONCOS??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
If Helton were any kind of a man, he would have either given back most of his annual salary each year or at least restructured his contract year ago to allow it to be consistent with his level of production.
And Helton's defense is average at best. He's no better than a lot of first basemen in the league.
He hasn't been worth his contract since he hit his 49 home runs. Of course, most of us realists who pay attention know WHY he hit those, and WHY he hasn't hit that many since. BALCO , anyone?
Helton's production dropped off after he got some kind of intestinal disease that benched him. He also lost weight, and the power that went along with it. And nobody is stupid enough to give that money back, not even you.
Do you haters actually read the news, or just like to make stuff up as you go along.
And Helton is one of the best first basemen in the Majors. If you can't see that, then you don't know baseball.
if that's the case, then Helton should have gained back the weight he lost, and then continued to hit 40+ homers per year.
People recover from illness. What they don't recover from is having their steroids taken away.

WCH is right..the Rockies are ruining baseball.
Baseball should only be played by teams in warm climates--like New York, Boston, and Detriot.
It should only be played by teams that stay in one place and are loyal to their fans--like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Oakland.
It should only be played by teams in major markets--like Cincinnati, Minneapolis, and Atlanta.
The World Series should only feature two teams that are geographically seperate. Like Kansas City and St. Louis or San Francisco and Oakland.
It should only feature teams that dominated through the entire season not some flash in the pan team--like the '69 Mets
It seems that his baseball
history is as flawed as his economic theory.
You all do realize that after 8 days of a layoff, everyone outside the confines of Denver will have long forgotten that there is a World Series happening.
This is shaping up to be the most unwatched event in the history of sports.
This eight day stretch is the death trap on this lucky streak. There's no way for the Rockies to simulate real game situations during their break.
A celebration will certianly take place at Coors Field, but it will not involve the Rockies.
I've always dreamed of the Rockies playing in the WS on a Monday night and the Broncos playing on MNF at the same time. Then, in the middle of the football game, the Rockies clinch the championship, the Mile High crowd goes wild and empties the stadium to join the celebration in the streets, leaving the MNF broadcast to show a nearly empty stadium for the rest of the game.
I wonder if MNF would show the fireworks if the Rockies win during their broadcast. I know they don't have a license to show the game but they could show the celebration.
Anybody want to guess what the Broncos TV ratings will be on that night especially if the Rockies could clinch it?

But I don't think being bad usually makes people upset or vidictive. The Cubs don't win alot but they have their faithfull following. Same in Colorado. We love our Rockies...even the band wagnoners. I have sat in the stands sicne 1993 and have lost my voice many times cheering my boys on...So when I see people start cheering for the team just because they are winning, it makes me a little upset, but when I sit back a think about it...Why not jump on the train,,,there is enough seats on the Rockies band wagon...The Nuggets Bandwagon fans are here too now that the Nugs have an All-Star cast. But after this wild ride is over, no matter what happens, WIN or LOSE...I will be in the stands next year, cheering till i lose my voice and believing that my team, MY ROCKIES, will win the World Series...

The Rockies aren't worth the air time spent on them currently. What makes you think they would interrupt a football broadcast to show anything relating to the Rockies? Why show any more of this fraudulent team than the contract calls for?
The Rockies have created a great story for true baseball fans. It is great to see the national media a buzz about our Rockies. I’m in Minnesota and even the local broadcasters are psyched about this Rockies team. This story created by our Rockies is the best thing for baseball that has happened in a long time.

Another great cartoon Drew. You do seem to always capture a special moment perfectly.
I have been a season ticket holder since 1994 and went to as many games as I could that first year. The thing that stands out the most about this season, is how the team came together as a single unit. You could see it early on, but they came up just short too many times to win. As the year progressed, that winning distance decreased until it became a winning streak to rival any team in history.
As for the likes of WCH, TC, LHR and any other hater... don't pay any attention to them. They just like to annoy people and get a reaction. The WORLD SERIES will drown out all the idiots and other background nuisances...
