Drew: Sauerbrun sent packing

It was time for Todd Sauerbrun to go. Way past time. The Broncos have many more moves they must make to right the ship. Here's a few...

1. Dump Jim Bates. The move to his defensive scheme was a mistake.
2. Move D.J. Williams back to an outside linebacker spot. Dump the rest of the linebackers and accept the fact you have to start over.
3. Dump Travis Henry to anyone who will give you a draft pick for him. Even if it's only a fifth or sixth rounder. If not dump him anyway.
4. Draft another running back higher than the third round. Though I really like him, Selvin Young is not the long-term answer.
5. Don't waste another draft pick on a defensive lineman.
6. Revamp your entire college scouting system.
7. Don't blame Shanahan for every problem in the franchise. But, clearly he has to delegate his drafts and free agency moves to someone else.
8. Take a hard hitting safety or a linebacker in the first round.
9. Find a lineman who really wants to protect Cutler. He's the whole franchise.
10. Get Cutler an appointment with Tony Robbins or Dr. Phil or Dan Hawkins. He needs a little fire.
11. Above all, from this point on, every personnel decision has to be made with one thing in mind: CHARACTER COUNTS!

Got any ideas on how to get the Broncos back on track? Please leave a comment.

They need to find a way to score in the red zone. For the last 5 years, Denver has been one of the worse teams in red zone %.

Also, along with Bates, they need to send the entire special teams packing. We are losing the battle of field position every game and it is killing us.

Finally, if Shanny will not give up player management moves, he should be sent on his way. He has not proven that he can make wise decisions and has wasted payroll on washed up trouble-makers. Bowlen cannot keep giving him a pass because he won two Super Bowls TEN years ago.

At least spring training is only a couple months away!

Well, I suppose that Pat Bowlen *could* hire a Hitman to knock off the entire rosters of the Colts, Steelers, Patriots, Chargers and Jaguars. That might help the Broncos a litte bit, because until those teams are no longer playing in the AFC, the Broncos have no shot. While Denver has continued to *expect* to win a Superbowl every year, so many other team have actually built through the draft and established solid rosters that will be contenders for several years. Denver is sliding back because Shanny keeps living in the past and keeps signing both old players or players who have serious character issues. Both of these types of players are serious liabilites, both on and off the field. Every one of those decisions falls directly on Shanny. He is the last line of decision making.
At some point he needs to get up in front of the cameras and honestly pronounce that he has made critical errors in judgement by signing the likes of Travis Henry, Simeon Rice, Sam "Hot Plate" Adams (an armadillo is faster to the line of scrimmage), and Todd Sauerbrun, among others.
He also needs to admit to himself that he invokes the 2 superbowls far too often. That was long ago, and the reason he won those had more to do with the players on the roster that it had to do with him.
it's true that you cannot make chicken salad out of chicken...., well....you know.

Wow Drew, dead on on the moves the Broncos need to make.

I'd only add "beef up" the O-Line.

    Don't expect to win...
    Deserve to win.

I Remember picking up Schlereth, Zimmerman, Crockett, Romanowski, McCaffery and Griffin.

    That was deserving it.

And had nothing to do with drafting rookies.

Alas... I am also starting to get on the Shanahan critics list. I don't suggest dumping him, for who? I think Bowlen needs to pare his powers and let him get back to coaching, which he used to be very good at! If his ego can't accept it, then it's time for the "Bye, Bye" chat. Bates has proved to be a disaster and should go. Tackling practice should be mandatory in EVERY work out! And Cutler is cool in the face of fire to the point of lethargy! Wake the lad up somebody!!!
