Drew Litton: A Dark and Stormy Knight

DREW0206.gif

National signing day is today and the Buffs
have pulled off the upset of the year by landing Darrell Scott, the highest rated running back in the country. Dan Hawkins and his staff have put together a tremendous recruiting class (rated 16th in the nation just behind Texas). The Scott signing is huge. He is the highest rated recruit the Buffs have signed in their history. Hawkins is putting the Buffs back on the map. And there is silence in the land of the Huskers.

I'm really going to miss Bobby Knight. He was always good cartoon material. Personally, I always felt he was a bit overrated. I think about the life lessons he taught his players. Childish temper tantrums are acceptable adult behavior. Bullying pays. Rudeness rules. And lastly, quit on your team when they need you the most. I don't think that Knight ever cared about a single one of his players. They were just pawns for him to build his reputation. In the end he walked away after getting the 900 wins his ego demanded. He got what he wanted. But in my book he'll never go down as more than just a tyrannical, self-absorbed, bully. Good riddance.

Bobby Knight will go down as one of the greatest college coaches of all time. He does have a temper problem but he is a hell of a basketball coach. He is not quitting on Texas Tech. His heart was not into it and by him staying to the end would not be fair to the players. He did the right thing by stepping aside and letting his son take over.

It's not like this came out of the blue Drew, his son had to talk him out of retirement before the season and a couple weeks ago. Obviously his heart wasn't in it anymore. Of course it wasn't the best scenario for him to leave now, but how much more productive would it have been for him to stay there and not put 100% of his efforts into the games and practices when all of his players were?

what would Knight's reaction have been had one of his players quit mid-season?

Drew, couldn't agree w/ you more.

The other two people that said he was one of the best coaches ever must be delusional.

He is a person who needs anger anagement classes for the rest of his life.

I would put him in the same category as Adolph Rupp, but for different reasons.
