Drew Litton: Darrell Scott's signing

DREW0207.gif

Quite a day in Boulder. The Buffs landed the best running back in the country, a whole herd of linebackers and some incredible talent on the offensive line. Meanwhile in Lincoln, other than signing Baker Steinkuhler, the son of former Nebraska standout, Dean Steinkuhler, the Huskers struggled with it's first recruiting class under a new head coach. Word has it that Bo Pelini is not necessarily the easiest guy to play for. Hawkins, on the other hand, seems to be inspiring recruits to catch his vision for the future. It seems to be working.

Darrell Scott was heavily recruited and Texas made a major effort to try and sign him. But, in the end, the relationship that Buffs coaches had established with Scott, as well as the family ties Scott has in Boulder made the difference. He will be fa blast to watch. Some recruiting analysts consider him to be as good, if not better than Reggie Bush, and if he remains healthy, has the potential to be a top 5 NFL draft pick. He's a stronger, sturdier version of Bush, a kid who spends a lot of time in the weight room.

Are those Husker fans I hear sobbing in their corn flakes? I thought so.

Colorado will not even win 6 games this upcoming season. Hawkins is overrated. He's nothing more than a loud-mouth coach who is beginning to physically resemble Al Davis with the shades and all.
Too bad that Scott won't be playing for a real program. If he wants to waste his college career being set up with strippers and keg parties, then so be it.

What? Why would the Huskers be crying in their cornflakes? Pelini salvaged a VERY nice class. I would say he went above and beyond expectations for his first class. In fact Scout has Nebraska ranked higher than Colorado. Scott was a good get by Colorado but the ink is not even dry on the LOI and you are already claiming him as good if not better than Reggie Bush and a top 5 draft pick?? Good grief.

While Scott is quite a pick up for the Puffs, a team is not made by one player. I'm not into the star ratings and overall team rankings, because at this point they do not mean anything. If in three years the majority of the recruits are contributing a lot and the team is winning, then the class can be considered successful. I also would not consider this Pelini's first recruiting class, that will be next year. I'd bet not many people thought much of Hawkins recruiting class the year he took over for Barnett. The majority of the team recruiting rankings I've seen have NU ahead of CU, so if NU "struggled" this year, it still appears to be better than CU did in its best year. I think it is also interesting that the media in Colorado focus so much on the one out of state player that signed with CU, and not much on at all on the local players that signed with CU. Don't even mention the other D-1 schools in the area. GO BIG RED!

If you're going off the recruting service sites rankings as to who has the better class, Rivals says CU does but Scout says NU does so thats a wash. You're making things up when you hear Pelini is hard to play for as the only rules he's laid out for his recruits are to work hard, be on time, and don't talk back. Yeah, Markiesha (Marcus Houston) didn't pan out, and we gave him the boot. The big diff us CU fans have vs you NU fans, is when we don't win, we don't threaten to off one of the coaches. You husker fans really have no room to talk about "class."

All schools have crappy fans and good fans....thank you Nick for rising above as a husker fan that shows some class. As far as Bo being hard to play for...I've even heard that from NU fans. The whole bank payoff rumor...Alexis Scott already an office manager for a doctor...why would she want a cheesy bank job? Just rumors circulated by sore losers.

I think I speak for all the Buffnation, we're all looking forward to playing you guys next year...you have Shawn Watson still, the very same OC that we had when you beat us 30 to 3 and Texas beat us 70 to 3, the comment by Johnny, you're right, you'll have the same offense, and you'll be as predictable as we were at the end of the Barnett era....get used to everyone figuring out your plays!!

How does it feel to be so pathetic that you guys only care about one thing, beating Nebraska? How does it feel to know that your program will never have the national prestige of Nebraska?

You THC influenced hippies need to put the bong down and realize the simple truth; Nebraska is back and we'll resume our rightful place kicking your arses all over the field every year.

    GO BIG RED!!!!

I would ask that anyone who was offended by this cartoon write to the Rocky Mountain News and complain. The "Corn Flakes" comment by Drew was way out of line. This kind of insulting "journalism" is no better than the "lynching" comment directed at Tiger Woods. It's a direct insult to hard working people in the state of Nebraska.

I demand a public apology directly from Drew Litton. His comments were outlandish. I cannot believe that the Rocky Mountain News, or any publication, would stand behind such a public disgrace.

Drew - You should be ashamed of yourself. I think it's probably time you stick to pictures and stop blogging.

The truth of the matter is that neither the Buffs or the Huskers have done squat in awhile. The Huskers have high hopes now that Callahan is gone. The Buffs are happy about a good recruiting class, but I remember Callahan bringing in 4 and 5 star players quite frequently, look what happened to him. The Buffs also seem to think that they whooped on NU last year. I remember NU scoring 51 on you (that is awful as NU getting 65 put on them). The big difference is NU just fired Cosgrove (one of the worst DC's in the country) and hired one of the best defensive minds in the country as a head coach. CU still has Collins. To Husker fans, even though you are excited, I would hold off on the flexing until you see what Pelini can do at Nebraska. CU fans, I would climb down off your high horse until you do not lose 7 games in a season. Both teams were no more than mediocre at best last year. Let the season play out.

At least NU had "Days of Glory". CU has had one maybe two years of being good (not great) and a lifetime of being mediochre. NU fans, although arrogant much of the time, embrace those glory days. CU fans wish to achieve them for once. CU fans may knock the Clownahan years at NU, but he did beat you a few times. As a neither a NU or CU, I would say that neither NU or CU should be pulling the "We are better" card at this moment. CU had a good recruiting class, but none have played a down. Stars mean nothing! Look how long it took Mac Brown to win a NC with all his 5 and 4 star recruits. As for NU, Pelini has not even coached a spring game as head coach. You have history, but no proven present. Let your teams prove something (even a Big 12 title, otherwise, this all sounds like two drunk idiots arguing over a woman at a bar. Being a Big Buff fan, I feel we had a great recruiting class but, I also have to believe that not one of these athletes have played a down at the D-1 College level. I have to agree with the post where it was said the coaching is the biggest difference not the stars. Hawkins is showing progress which is good but, again until he wins on the field we have nothing to brag about. It's fun to get excited about the future of Colorado football but, remember we need to have class and act like we have been in the winners circle. Some day we all hope to be there on a consistant basis. The cartoon was uncalled for and we needed to thankful we had a good recruiting class. Nebraska shouldn't have been mentioned. I have always said we need better people in the Colorado media. Hell, half the time they are beating up on CU football.

so i just thought i would ask, how is darrell scott working out for you all? he sure did big things in that CSU loss. i truly thought dan hawkins was the man for the job at CU and i figured he would get them good enough to consistently compete with bo pelini, but after that ugly loss i dont see it panning out. oh, and by the way, that little fish on the end of nebraska's rope ended up taking up 2 starting spots on nebraska's linebacking corps (sean fisher and will compton) and another shared starting spot at linebacker (walk-on mathew may). not to mention several prominent backups (baker steinkuhler, PJ smith, alfonzo dennard). so, hows that cartoon looking by now? not too good for the buffs im afraid. this just proves once again that the trash talkers lose. hawkins and CU better wake up quick, they have a season--and a job--to catch.

Wow Drew, great article. Just thought i would let you know that Darrell Scott, that god of a recruit CU got, has LEFT THE TEAM. Meanwhile, Bo Pelini's recruiting class (you know, that guy thats really hard to play for...) has been making major contributions (ironically, Baker Steinkuhler has made less of a contribution than many of the players in this class, although has still made a bigger contribution than Darrell Scott ever did in Big Bad Boulder) and the Corn Flakes are 9-3, winners of the north (although will soon be losers at the hands of the Texas Longhorns) and on their way back to national prominence. Funny how that works sometimes huh? Even the "experts" like you are sometimes put in their place. Well, good luck with your next recruiting class!
