Drew Litton:The end of Civilization

There really is no excuse for watching the NFL combine. I'm an NFL draft fan, often spending the whole day watching the first round, but under no circumstances will you find me watching the combine. Instead I'll spend the weekend reading a biography on Lincoln...

and listening to Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys...

It's what weekends are made for.

The NFL is great for many things. The combine is not one of them. Neither is overanalyzing each team's draft needs and the NFL Network.

And because of Gary Bettman and his Mystery Men, this type of idiotic programming would ultimately get better TV ratings than the National Hockey League if both were broadcast opposite one another.

I miss the days of a 21-team, non-Shootout laden NHL where it was affordable, had a passionate fanbase and was on ESPN at least a few nights per week. Instead, there are at least 8-9 franchises that have no business having a pro hockey team in their city, the league is run by money-grubbing lawyers and accountants, the NHL is shoving out their die-hard fan base, and they're on a network where after the hockey game is finished, Versus blows off the post-game report so they can cut right to a taped Bull-riding even that happened 16 weeks ago. The sad state of sports leagues today....

Has it come to this?? The Avalanche franchise is this desperate for putting fannies in the Pepsi Center?

Here's betting that Peter will last less than 10 games before he's declared injured. There is just no way he's ready to withstand the rigors of the NHL right now.

But...by all means Peter....try and prove me wrong. I just don't see it.

This is all about attendance and has zero to do with being a more competetive team.

All this does is take up a roster spot of a young player that the Avs should be developing.
