If you can afford to bet in the NCAA pool, you can afford a box of Thin Mints, too.

I'm 42 years old and still cannot understand why anyone would ever bother to bet on sporting events.
I'm bothered by the notion that people have no problem betting thousands of dollars with the extreme likelihood that they will lost it all, instead of donating to a good cause. Our priorities as Americans have gotten way screwed up. We have no problem risking financial loss for something totally worthless, but fail to help out others when it will benefit everyone, including the person helping/donating.
It's the same for these idiot athletes who reap $20 Million contracts and fail to see that they could easily take 3/4 of that amount and help out hundreds of non-profit groups, shelters, animal-rights groups, etc. Instead , they look the other way. I make a nice living, but I also make sure others do too. I volunteer about 20 hours a week at various local groups, and donate at least $15K - 25K annually to these groups and other non-profits.
Why can't others get on board with this idea?
This whole betting thing is a total crock.
Wake up people!

Bill said it all. Totally concur. But who pays the $20M to the athletes? The brain-damaged fans with no sense of priorities. Simultaneous greed, stupidity and entertainment at any cost are what this country now treasures.

Bill nailed it.
But who pays the crybaby athletes $20M a year? The brain-damaged
fans. What this country treasures in the 21st century is 1)entertainment at any cost, 2)rampant greed and
3)blatant stupidity.

Nice to hear someone with a clear sense of priorities. Bill is dead on.
I too spend a good deal of time helping out with groups and schools, etc. I can't donate that much money, but I think I do my part.
Imagine if everyone who bet money actually took even one-third of that bet and gave it to someone who really needed it. Imagine how grateful that person would be and imagine how much better the world would be.
We need to end poverty on this planet.
I can only hope we actually start the process in my lifetime.
Cheers.

Bill, how is it any of your damned business what other people spend their money on? If other people disagree with *your* spending priorities, do you want to listen to them tell you where the money *you earned* should be spent?

Infidel91, you're obviously a Republican and a Bush-backer.
What a sad, sad life you must lead if you can slam the ideas that Bill stands behind.
You apparently only think of yourself Infidel91. You certianly sound like the kind of person than looks the other way instead of acknowledging that poverty needs to not only be abolished, but outlawed.
As Bill said....WAKE UP!

Don't bring political parties into this, that will just lead to dumb stereotypes. What was said about betting was more common sense that anything. Definately good points, I have to agree.
