Kobe: Can't Measure Up

The comparison between Kobe and Michael Jordan is absurd. Jordan was a player who could literally carry it all. Kobe is a player who doesn't transcend the game itself. An interesting player but not Jordanesque in any conceivable way.

Right. Kobe doesn't have a gambling problem. Jordan does. However, they both have been unfaithful to their spouses. That, they have in common.
The fact is that the NBA is a sham no matter how you look at it. Take any angle and you'll see corruption and illegal activity. So, really, that puts it on par with the NFL and MLB.
The NHL is no angel, but it's one hell of a lot less corrupt than the other big 3. It would be wonderful for the NBA, NFL and MLB to go away for good. That would leave us with hockey, soccer, and slow-pitch beer league softball. And that would be just excellent.

Soccer? Nothing is more boring than that terrible game. The NBA is full of punks, thugs, gang-banger wanna-be's more concerned with how much bling they have than how hard they play, I can't stand it, but I'll take the NBA over soccer each and every time. That is one AWFUL sport to watch. NFL and College Football, along with Hockey will be just fine, thank you.

Paul Pierce OWNED Kobe Bryant in that last half!
I think the Celts should cut up half that NBA championship trophy and send it to Kevin McHale in Minnesota as a thank you for Kevin Garnett.
Amazing how the Celtics started the NBA preseason on a NBA tour of Italy and that unified the team to the success of this season.
The Celtics bench has been fantastic in these playoffs.

Just a reminder people: If you're watching the NBA, then remember that all you're watching is staged theatre. The Celtics and Lakers are in the finals because the NBA needed a meal ticket. Neither team would have made it this far if the NBA didn't want it to happen. It's not that these teams aren't talented, but David Stern most definitley had his finger in the pie that made this series a reality. Make no mistake.
On another note, why was Carmelo Anthony picked for the Olympic team? This make no sense whatsoever.

24 min/g, 19.9 PPG on 50.4% shooting, 44% 3 pt shooting, 3.7 RPG, 1.8 SPG
I know that we in Denver have our issues with Carmelo, but it's idiotic to think that this guy is not good or cannot be good. 20 PPG on 50% shooting in 24 minutes is just incredibly efficient which is what you want from an Olympic basketball player. He'll be just fine playing for the Olympic team this year. I'd imagine that he'll be coming off the bench to provide instant offense. This role is the perfect role for him because he does not have to worry about defense (because he'll be marking the other teams worst offensive player) and can just concentrate on what he loves to do (and what he's really really good at doing) and just put the ball in the basket.

We used to regularly attend attend NBA basketball games. Then we moved and started with a new team. We had a season subscription to with Directv to watch alot of games. Over the years it became apparent that the players just go through the motions of playing and don't play that hard. Only at the end of the game (sometimes). You have wanna be gangstas, alleged rapists, gamblers, crooked refs. That's why I don't watch the NBA anymore. WHO CARES?

I know some Nuggets fans aren't going to want to hear about the Spurs, but we have an interesting perspective on the situation here in San Antonio.
When the Lakers beat the Spurs this year to go to the Finals, it was mostly the Spurs' fault. They were tired from the first two brutal series with the Suns and Hornets, but to blow those big leads they had can't all be blamed on the refs.
But those of us who cover the Spurs know
that Stern was hitting his knees every night during that series, praying that the Spurs would lose.
The dirty little secret that the NBA will never admit to is that they wish the Spurs had stopped with their 1999 championship. San Antonio may be the eighth largest city in America (or seventh, depending on which stats you look at), but we are considered a low television market.
If the Spurs are on TV, they win the market share in San Antonio for that night. Everywhere else, ho-hum. The NBA's idea of a dream Finals: New York and Los Angeles. (Boston is an acceptable substitute for New York.) Viewers who have no interest in basketball will tune in just to see the celebrities.
The nightmare scenario Finals: San Antonio and Indiana. The series between the Spurs and Nets in 2003 came pretty close to that. We do have Eva Longoria-Parker now; but San Antonio's celebrities include Tommy Lee Jones, George Strait, and David Robinson. New Jersey had, what, Joe Piscopo?
Denver isn't much better off in terms of non-fan draw, as I see it. You've got John Elway, umm, other Broncos players...
The ratings for last years Spurs/Cavs finals stank on ice. And the ratings will probably drop somewhat after the series moves back to Boston, if the Celtics lose tonight.
It's just business, folks. The only way to clear it is to chuck the system and start over. Wish we could do that with Washington D.C. as well.

Just watch the Celtics crumble in game 6. I'm not saying that Boston won't ultimately win in 7, but I'll pretty much guarantee that L.A. blows out Boston next game. Something along the lines of 110-76. It won't even be close. Then, in game 7, we'll see something in the triple-OT department.

Don't have the star talent?
How many Hall of Famers does Denver sports have Jacob?
I'd venture to say there were more Boston Celtics Hall of Famers alone than Broncos,Rockies,Avalanche,Nuggets Hall of Famers combined!

If you want to compare Hall of Fame players then level the field a little. Boston because it was on the East Coast, has had a professional sports team since 1901, unless you count the Beaneaters which was established in 1873 and eventually became the Atlanta Braves. The Broncos was the first professional franchise in Denver history and was established in 1960.
Eventually a team experience success because time does that for a franchise, but if you compare time frames then Denver has more Hall of Famers.

Let's remove opinion, and look at Jordan and Kobe through comparible pieces: ages 21 - 29, regular season, major stats (remembering that Jordan missed most of the season he started at age 22 due to a foot injury).
Off Reb: Jordan hands downs has more offensive rebounds per game than Kobe, season to season, with the exception of the foot injury season.
Def Reb: Kobe had more defensive rebounds per game from ages 21-24, then Jordan had more from 25-28, with Kobe having more at age 29.
Total Reb: Jordan had more at age 21, Kobe more ages 22-24, Jordan more ages 25-29.
Assists per Game: Kobe had more at ages 22 & 23, otherwise it's all Jordan.
Steals per Game: Defense wins championships, and Jordan always had more steals per game.
Blocks per Game: Kobe had more at ages 21 & 26, otherwise it's all Jordan.
Points per Game: Kobe had more at ages 22, 27, & 28 otherwise it's all Jordan.
FG% per Game: With the exception of the injury-shortened season (age 22), Jordan had a better FG%
3-Pt %: With the exception of age 26, Kobe has a better 3-Pt %
FT%: Kobe at ages 22, 24, 25, 28, & 29 had the edge; Jordan at ages 21, 23, 26 & 27.
Make your own judgement.

Lol I see. Since Basketball is dominated by black people, it has to be full of "gangstas, alleged rapists, gamblers" etc. Lol to chose to watch Hockey over basketball is nonsense. A tiny field made of ice covered by so many people trying to get the little puck into the net...and not to mention fighting gets you some time in a box but you can come back. Soccer is how long? & it takes them all that time to score maybe one or two points a game? Football & Basketball are better easily. & yes, Kobe has had a great career, but if he retires for 3 years, do you think he could come back & win 3 straight championships? I think not since players like Lebron, Dwyane Wade, & Melo (if he reaches a better situation, like Miami =] ) will be stoppig him.

Shawn, Basketball is a team sport and teams win championships. Without Jackson and Pippen, MJ may never have won a title. And coming back to a system he knew inside and out made it easy to come back after 3 years. Now if he would have won a title with the Wizards then you would have something.
With this talk of MJ and Kobe, we're leaving out a player better then both. Magic Johnson won in HS and college then came into the pro game and not only got an underachieving team to the Finals but was the Final's MVP as a rookie. He also took his team to the Finals every year but one. If not for the great Bird led Boston team Magic could have had even more rings.
I wish the Bulls of the 90's had a similar team to really push them. That would have been awesome to see.
